My wife and I got married at Nakoma Resort on 12/6/21 and had the most amazing experience. Everyone has told us it was their favorite wedding ever! Nakoma made that happen!
Everything was so amazing, from a family cocktail meet in great the night before at Altitude, to the ceremony with the most amazing view, the reception in the most amazing frank lloyd wright room with daycare for the kids during. The staff was incredible at handling all of us checking in at the same time, setting up, and prep.
The food was truly amazing! Wedding food is often bland but this was anything but. Everyone had a 5-Star dining experience. The Soup was superb and the short rib was the best I've ever had. Everyone could not stop talking about it! It even made it into the speeches.
Nakoma is a hidden gem in the lost sierra with modern-day amenities and beauty throughout. They made our wedding a true fairy tale and blew away all of our expectations. We highly recommend a Nakoma Wedding!!
Was absolutely amazing! The food was fantastic and they offered family style finding. The planning was great. Little issue with hotel but everyone was very accommodating.
10/10 would do it there again
My husband and I got married at Nakoma Resort in July of 2018. We live in the Bay Area, but my family has been vacationing in the area for over 50 years so we knew that we wanted to share this special place with all of our family and friends. The setting and backdrop is breathtaking and we knew it was where we wanted our wedding as soon as we stepped onto the property. The clubhouse is so unique with the architecture and giant fireplace, and the view from the deck is spectacular. It is also one of the only venues in the area that could accommodate our guest count of 250.
We had a whole weekend of activities planned from Friday – Sunday; from a golf tournament, to a Welcome Cocktail Reception, to pool parties on Friday and Saturday. We loved that all of our guests had access to all the resort facilities. The staff worked so hard to accommodate every event we wanted. Brooke, the Chef and head bartender, went above and beyond to make sure we had everything we needed. The food and signature drinks were outstanding. Chef even went as far as setting up a breakfast buffet for our bridal party Saturday morning and also made the girls salads and wraps for lunch and the guys got burgers and fries. Months later we still have people coming up and telling us it was the best wedding food they have ever had.
We did run into a few issues during the wedding planning process. Our contract came with a mandatory “wedding planner”, Klytia . About a month or so in I realized that Klytia was not a wedding planner, but a day of coordinator who was basically there to tell us what we could and could not do. She was very clear that their staff would not set up or break down any “extras” that we brought in. Nakoma will provide you with basic tables, linens, chairs and flatware but anything extra has to be rented. I quickly realized that I was going to need an actual wedding planner to help me pull off this massive destination wedding. I ended up finding Jessica Pete from Once Upon A Time Events and she and her team made our wedding dreams come true! Without them, my husband and I and our family and friends would not have been able to relax and enjoy the weekend because it would have been a logistical nightmare. Jessica and her team took care of everything.
You could definitely tell that at some points in the weekend the staff was a bit overwhelmed. At the Welcome Reception, the bar was incredibly understaffed and it took a very long time to get a drink. This was dealt with and remedied for the wedding reception. Having two bars definitely helped as well. Jessica noticed that Nakoma was understaffed and ended up calling in reinforcements for the day of the wedding so we ended up with the staff Nakoma provided plus about seven extra Once Upon A Time Events team members who assisted in setting up every single detail and stayed until the early hours of the morning doing tear down.
Overall, we were so happy that we decided to have our wedding weekend at Nakoma. The setting cannot be beat and the staff there really do allow you to make any vision you have come to life. I would suggest that if you have a lot of details, or a larger wedding, that you hire an outside wedding planner to make your life easier and less stressful. I am so glad that I realized early on enough that Klytia was not what I needed and I found Jessica to help pull everything off. But we honestly could not have asked for a better place to have our wedding.
