New Museum

The New Museum is the only museum in Manhattan exclusively dedicated to contemporary art. Founded in 1977, the New Museum served as a catalyst for broad dialogue between artists and the public. Now the New Museum is a cultural hub that anchors the downtown art scene, featuring exhibitions, programming, and community gatherings that center living artists from around the world. From our beginnings as a one-room office on Hudson Street to the opening of our SANAAdesigned flagship building on the Bowery in 2007, the New Museum has been a risktaking, future-forward platform for new art and new ideas—a mission accelerated by a major building expansion that doubles our size, designed by internally renowned architects OMA / Shohei Shohei Shigematsu and Rem Koolhaas in collaboration with Cooper Robertson, Executive Architect. The New Museum is located on the Bowery at the intersection of Soho and the Lower East Side, two of the hottest destinations in New York and home to dozens of galleries, luxury fashion, and trendy restaurants.
