My wedding coordinator changed mid way through planning & I wasn’t notified until I called. I had emailed the previous person several times & didn’t get a response which prompted the call. The new coordinator wasn’t very helpful & I barely heard from her.
Fast forward to the week of my wedding. I I inquired about the time I would be able to get the suite for the day of the wedding so I could get ready. I was notified that check in time wasn’t until 4pm & I wouldn’t be able to access the suite until then unless I booked the suite for Friday night. I explained the previous coordinator told me I would be able to get it earlier as my wedding was at 3pm. They also informed me that the hotel doesn’t have a standup mirror & they don’t know why I was told I could get one.
The day of my wedding was horrible. The coordinator was sent to another event so I had no one to help me. My hotel room had ants in it. At the reception my guests weren’t offered drinks outside of water (tea & coffee were included in my package). Only one table got drinks because they asked.
They sent me a survey after the wedding & I gave my honest opinion without asking for compensation. The manager got back to me & alluded to what I was saying wasn’t truthful because my guests were offered drinks. The only thing they admitted to was the lack of communication. I filed a complaint with corporate & the same manager got back to me to say she responded to me but she guesses her answer wasn’t good enough.

g on a successful event really helped take some stress out of the whole process for us. It is obvious that they really want you to have the wedding you envisioned, even if that vision changes! Once we saw everything in place on the day of our wedding, we decided we wanted an extra table in one place and a different table in another. It was taken care of right away.
The shining stars, though, were the staff working the event! Employees passing through would offer us water and snacks as we were setting up. During family photos, they served us the appetizers that we chose for the cocktail hour so we didn't miss out! We had dinner stations set up for our guests but the wait staff got our plates for us which made eating a little easier ... it's still nearly impossible for the bride and groom to eat a full meal at their own wedding! I didn't get a chance to meet the bartender until closer to the end of the night but he was fantastic as well. He knew everyone's drink of choice and was making jokes while serving. They ran out of our favorite beer and someone ran over to the other side of the hotel to bring us more even though the night was just about over!! So many of our guests commented how helpful and how nice and friendly the staff were. It would have been easy for them to just do their job but they all went above and beyond and really made an impression on us all. It seemed like they were genuinely having fun while working and taking care of everything for us! They were also like machines helping break everything down at the end of the night. Food: As I mentioned, we had the dinner stations. I could not have been more pleased with the food. Our guests absolutely raved about the mashed potato bar and the pasta station. No one had to wait in line very long and they even kept going back for more!
The only reason I hesitated to give five stars was because of the cost. It was a little pricey BUT if you can afford it, having your wedding at the City Center Marriott is worth every penny.

heart transplant and having to stay in the hospital for long periods of time, it has been hard. Although he is still waiting, we didn’t want to miss the opportunity to say how amazing it was working with catering (Brianna Booth, Lisa Martello, Alison McPherson, and Georgia Carles) and serving staffs. We had the reception in the Grand Ballroom (Salon I and II) and the room turned out gorgeous. The attention to detail from everyone involved was second to none. The catering staff was with us each step of the way and whenever we had concerns or changes they were very responsive to them. Everyone was so friendly and caring, and the serving staff was on top of everything from making sure everything was in place, to making sure I was able to enjoy all the wonderful food. For the reception we had a brunch that included breakfast and lunch items and two omelet stations that our guests enjoyed so much and the food was delicious. We also opted to stay in the honeymoon suite which was a great decision, we were surprised to find chocolate cover strawberries, champagne, food left over from the reception, and a note from the staff waiting in the room for us. During the process of looking for a reception venue we visited several locations and kept coming back to the Marriott. To this day we don’t regret our choice and this decision was reinforced by our guest still talking about how beautiful everything was. We would proudly recommend Newport News Marriott at City Center to anyone.

over a month before the wedding. The service from everyone I spoke with was wonderful, and the value was exceptional, especially because they don't charge for rooms that go un-booked. The only thing I didn't like was that the deadline for guests to reserve their room was 30 days, which was before our RSVP date, so there were people who were unable to get the group rate because the deadline was so far out from the actual wedding date. Most people are procrastinators in deciding whether they're able to attend an event, so therefore they book hotels with than 30 days to go, I would think. So while our guests loved the hotel itself, many had to pay higher rates. If I could go back and change anything, I'd have requested an extension of the "reserve by" date. Other than that hiccup, it was great experience using the Marriott at City Center for our hotel block.

nd delicious when it was served, and there was more than enough for guests to get seconds. Each round table sat 10 people comfortably, but I chose to put 8-10 people at each. The Pearl Ballroom and linens they provided were clean and gorgeous. The Marriott also worked very well with my other vendors!

They definitely know how to do weddings and they have a beautiful place with the Rotunda, ballrooms, and the gorgeous fountain outside. The only detail I didn't like was the ugly carpet which, unfortunately is something you can't just crop out of the pictures, but overall they have an amazing setting for weddings and excellent staff that will make sure your special day is smooth and beautiful

The staff was excellent and catered to all of our guest and of the bride and groom very wonderful. The value for the money was breath taking.
