nda would be working our event. Our first red flag should have been when Amanda failed to attend our initial Zoom meeting. After we contacted the owner, she eventually joined the Zoom, over 30 minutes late, and brushed past It as though she had not overlooked the meeting. We moved past the meeting and continued with Northern Sound. We were sent an information sheet to complete prior to the event with song requests, etc. We completed the portions of the form that were relevant to us and returned it to the DJ. Admittedly, we did not exhaust the form with many specific details as we did not have many particular requests, and were under the impression that the DJ would have a good idea of songs to play and when to read the room/change it up. During our Zoom meeting, Amanda informed us she would arrive to the venue 1.5 hours prior to our ceremony to set up and play music while people were taking their seats. She arrived 45 minutes later than she originally told us with new equipment she had never used. While technical difficulties are completely understandable, they are also the same reason why she should have arrived early enough to resolve these issues. She was not ready to begin the ceremony until at least 10 minutes after the ceremony was set to begin. Prior to dinner, DJ Amanda did do a good job hyping everyone up for the grand entrance and playing our requested song. She offered to release our tables for dinner, which she told us she normally does. For the first hour of dancing, everything was fine, and she played wedding classics that everyone enjoys, and our guests were having a good time. Once the initial excitement wore off and the room calmed down, DJ Amanda spent a significant portion of the remainder of the reception on her phone with minimal engagement with the guests. Even when it was obvious that the guests were not vibing with the music, she didn’t read the room and switch it up.  Overall, we were disappointed with the service for the cost. We chose to hire a DJ because we wanted someone to be engaged with the guests, get people on the dance floor, and have the ability to read the room and change up the music as they saw fit. Northern Sound’s website and prior reviews gave us the impression that would do just that. We fully expected a stellar customer experience based upon previous satisfied customers and advertising by the owners. We do not feel that is what was delivered. After we left a review expressing this, the owner promptly sent us a very defensive, and frankly rude, email. We responded and admitted we did not provide information we thought we did and agreed with some of his points, only for him to respond with an even more aggressive and accusatory tone. Attached are screenshots of the emails we received. At no point did we say that DJ Amanda was the downfall of our event (which was still lovely) or request a discount. We left a review in hopes of DJ Amanda improving for her next wedding. While our initial review was 1 star, I believe 3 stars would have been more appropriate. However, after our horrible interaction with the owner, I firmly stand by a 1 start review of this company as a whole. Seeing as we had never hired a DJ before this, I am not sure how we were expected to know exactly what was needed from us for them to do their job.
