Oak Mill Bakery

d an enormous selection of wedding cake designs to choose from, and our cake turned out both elegant and beautiful. The cake itself was absolutely delicious--moist, flavorful and rich (but not overly dense). The buttercream was tasty and not overly thick or sweet. During my wedding, I had multiple people tell me how much they loved the cake. Oak Mill may not be flashy or trendy, but it is an amazing, classic bakery with simply delicious cakes and pastries.

thing so light and not overly sweet. My husband and I had so much fun trying different flavors and pastries at the tasting. We were able to pick different flavors per tier for our guests, and not a bite was left after the wedding. We definitely recommend Oak Mill for anyone looking for a scrumptious and beautiful wedding day cake!

icative. The flavor variety was amazing, and everything we tried was delicious. The tasting was also very well-organized and reasonable. Day-of, the cake was stunning, tasted incredible, and was delivered with no problems whatsoever. We're still eating it and enjoying every bite!

en it came to the design, our cake had a standard and simple design. We had a 3 tiered cake, which certainly had the palette to do more but we did not pay extra so I guess we “got what we paid for”. However the cake was beautiful, the cake tasting was amazing. The cake was delicious and the “talk of the town”. We ordered a lemon cake with strawberry filling and buttercream frosting. I would certainly recommend them again but also would advise to pay a little more to get the extra “pop” to your cake.

y favorites. I definitely highly recommend them for your special day. On the side note, for those brides, grooms and all wedding party members who want to lose weight and look their best during the wedding day , I did the 30 day challenge with money back guarantee and I lost 20 lbs in the program. If you want to do it I encouraged you to contact iliah06@yahoo.com. She will help you just like how she helped me.

cakes and did the tasting at the Chicago location (when it was open) with Bill. It all tasted fantastic, and we were excited for the wedding. We were told the cupcakes would arrive between a certain time on the wedding day (between 3 and 5), and they arrived a half hour after later than scheduled (5:30), which was a half hour before the wedding started. We scrambled to get them up on our cupcake stands, and put together. They also were dry, and didn't taste much like what we had at the tasting. I do not want to give them a totally bad review, because they were easy to work with. We enjoyed working with Bill. If the quality of the cupcakes were better, and they arrived on time...they would have had 5 stars.

an amazing cake. Not only was the final product visually flawless, but it was absolutely delicious! We received endless compliments about the cake and would recommend Oak Mill to anyone.

e parts of wedding planning. We met with Susan who was very helpful and made the tasting a fun date for the two of us. We went in to the store with an idea of what flavors we wanted. Once we sat down and began tasting the different combinations we were taken back, in a good way, that we added a few tiers just to have more! We wanted to make a "stained glass" design with our cake but had a few unique ideas to add. With just our description and some pictures from google, Susan and her team were able to form EXACTLY what we wanted. Susan helped us stay within our budget and we were very happy with how our "stained glass" wedding cake turned out. Thank you Susan and Oak Mill!

!!

, guests did not even know it was GF. We love Ann she was the best to work with in the Arlington Heights bakery.

o work with them-- they were so helpful and the cake was absolutely delicious. A couple of brides that I have talked to said that their cakes from other vendors did not taste the same at the tasting as it did at the wedding, but this was not a problem with Oak Mill. It tasted just as amazing as it did when we went to our tasting. When I was scrambling with last minute wedding details, they were the ones that called me to confirm, which was such a relief because I would have definitely forgot to call and might have panicked later. They also accommodated my heavy cake topper without any issue. If you want to make sure that your wedding cake is beautiful, delicious, and taken care of without any stress, Oak Mill is the way to go.

ill. We called and emailed their wedding coordinator several times with questions, but had a very hard time getting through to speak to her (the staff at the bakery usually didn't feel comfortable answering wedding cake questions, so they would leave her a message). When we were able to finally come in for a tasting, we were disappointed to find that a lot of the cake options she brought out were clearly still partially frozen or dry and stale (not impressive for a wedding tasting). Overall the tasting was fairly cold and we felt very rushed. During our appointment, we overheard an upset customer at the counter returning a cake she had just purchased because it had mold all over the bottom. Needless to say, it made us nervous for the state of our wedding cake. We were originally planning on placing a separate order for some additional sweets for our dessert table, but decided not to because we were worried we'd get old, off the shelf products. On a positive note, Oak Mill definitely had a huge selection to pick from with lots of upgrades and design options, which is really convenient (however almost every element has a separate upgrade cost attached, FYI). The wedding cake, itself, ended up being beautifully decorated and tasted good. We were very happy with it! However, I think a lot of this had to do with the fact that it was a custom cake, so it had to be made fresh (they couldn't just pull something off the shelf from their inventory). Overall, Oak Mill does make some amazing baked goods - when you are lucky enough to purchase something fresh, or order a custom cake guaranteeing that is freshly made just for you. Unfortunately for them, it seems that they make too many cakes that end up just sitting on shelves for a very long time, and have no problem selling/serving them to customers (creating a high risk that you may buy something fairly old and unappetizing).

st wanted to upsell me. I had several friends recommend Oak Mill Bakery and they were the answer to prayer! They answered my questions promptly and they discussed options that worked with what we wanted and in a budget we wanted, not what would make a bigger sale. Their helpfulness and friendliness were refreshing and our cake was both beautiful and delicious. We got compliments from several guests. I highly recommend them!!

he wedding planning process more enjoyable. He was very thorough with answers to any questions that I had and I highly recommend working with them. Oh, and the cake was ABSOLUTELY stunning... And it tasted good! Two thumbs up :)

My only complaint about this company is I (the bride) received a call the day of the wedding while I was getting my hair done. The driver, who spoke very little English, was unable to get into the venue. It was a headache and concern for 20 minutes but was then felt with. I guess there was a new driver who was educated on how to ring the door bell for deliveries.

harge us $50 for a cake tasting...even though we were definitely booking them. Then they told us we could change from butter cream to custard with no problem. The day before the wedding they called and said they couldn't and wouldn't do anything about it and that it would still be a good cake?

ons mattered. They chose lemon cake with strawberry buttercream filling. Not exactly normal wedding cake flavors, but it was delicious and everybody LOVED it, plus it was beautiful. The bakery was great, I highly recommend it!

llings and Bill helped us chose the best pairings for us. In fact, we wanted to get a lemon cake without the lemon curd and Bill explained the vibrant lemon flavor was from the curd not the cake itself which made us go in a different direction. The price was actually cheaper than what we had budgeted. The day of the wedding the cake looked EXACTLY like what we discussed with Bill and tasted just as good. Several of our guests were begging us for extra but it was completely devoured! I would highly recommend Oak Mill and plan to use them again when I have another cake order. It was a great experience all around for us!

fair share of their baked goods and sweets (all excellent!) , and I've always been in awe of the cakes on display so we set up a tasting with Bill. The day of, we waited an extra 1/2 hour since the prior appointment had run long and the went to the back to go through the selections we picked beforehand. The cakes are not made on-site (they're made in Des Plaines) but we tried the Red Velvet -buttercream/cream cheese/white chocolate; Chocolate/peppermint/buttercream/white chocolate and Apple Caramel combinations. We chose the Red Velvet/Cream Cheese and Chocolate/Peppermint options. The idea for our cake was very simple, two tiers with gold swiss dots with a topper we'd be providing, and they had binders and binders labeled by letter and number full of designs so the process of selecting the design could be time consuming but very simple. You can just tell they crank these things out so they are capable of designs of all shapes and sizes. The quote and contract process was also easy too. The day of, the cake looked and tasted great, I'm just slightly disappointed by the service as we felt like just another wedding in the queue.

hind from another appointment and called to say we were on our way. We were rudely told that our appointment would be cut short, which was okay with us. We were hurried through our tasting by Bill who was not in the least bit friendly. We tasted a few types of plain cake (they were out of 1 option we wanted, how are you "out"?) and given a few types of frosting and jelly to try separately. For the hype, we were not in the least impressed with the cakes, they were a bit dry for our liking. We then were pushed to select a cake design and any accessories we would want on the cake. Upon leaving, we were terribly dissatisfied with the service and decided to go with ANY other bakery. I emailed Bill to cancel our order and heard nothing back. A few weeks before our wedding, Bill emailed me with a few questions about my order. I had to remind him to check his previous messages to see that we did cancel it. Then, the week before our wedding, Oak Mill called my venue and me to discuss delivery times. Yet again, I had to call the store and cancel my order for the 3rd time. I'm sure others have had great experiences with Oak Mill, but my husband and I were terribly disappointed and will not give them any future business.

iers. So delicious. We'll be coming back for an anniversary cake in a year. Thanks!

other people. They placed the cake topper and brought the cake to the reception. The cake was just as I requested, the cake was moist and the buttercream was sweet and tasty! Would definitely have them cater again. Bill the contact was very professional and helpful with tips for the choices on the cake.

t with Oak Mill. There were some delays/confusion in them communicating to us when I reached out and coordinating with our caterer, but they were always professional and the food was absolutely delicious. You can also rent pie stands, which we found to be very helpful. I would definitely recommend them to anyone.

e deal to us, we just went with it. The manager was alright, but the tasting seemed very cold and not fun at all. I didn't need it to be a party, but a little levity would have been nice! All in all the cake tasted good, nothing spectacular, but good.

, to arranging delivery to the Botanic Gardens. I highly recommend!

iginal consultation and cake tasting. Everything was exactly what we wanted and it was perfect. Thank you, Oak Mill Bakery!

ot like the buttercream frosting- it was unlike any other buttercream I've had. We did not do a tasting and would recommend doing it if thinking about the buttercream.

m we worked, Bill, is not very friendly, and as such our cake tasting was awkward and not really fun, since he sat there silently deadpan while we were tasting different flavors. He also didn't seem as flexible to what we wanted to do with flavors and designs without a massive upcharge for everything. At the end of the day, our cake was gorgeous, exactly as I had envisioned, and so yummy, but the experience itself could have been better. Maybe that's what we get since they know they are guaranteed money from our venue contract?

but I was wrong! My fiancee and I went to their cute North Avenue location for tasting and were pleased with the bakery itself. Their coordinator, Bill, was quite busy with many many weddings but was accommodating of our schedule (we were long distance wedding planners), and he was very patient as I went back and forth and nommed on every morsel. Even their "basic" package cakes were absolutely beautiful and we had plenty of designs to choose from. The cake itself was delicious! Buttercream frosting was perfect - not overly sweet, and the fudge filling was decadent. A sure crowd pleaser. The gluten free cupcakes we ordered on the side were also a hit!

a sketch of our cake design and she was able to provide lots of valuable input. During the cake tasting she was also very nice and patient. The cakes were really yummy and moist. We also go there not just for the cakes, but their other pastries as well! Despite the delivery was on July 4th, they were able to deliver it on time without any problems. We highly recommend them!

e been to, this is the only bakery that I tasted that was consistanly fresh and moist. I was really surprised with the experience at Oak Mill. We were there for approximately hr and 10 mins. We had been there approximately 35-40 mins before we were asked what our vision was. I had attempted to show pics earlier but was told that the form needed to be completed first. We did have a cake test (the most A-M-A-Z-I-N-G German Choc cake) and then finally got to the portion to discuss our vision. I was quickly told that my vision wouldn't work. (I wanted 2 layers of buttercream frosting and 1 of fondant) I was advised that I could only get one kind. I had already talked to a couple of other bakers and and this was the only one that had told me that. When we walked out, we had a pretty sketch of what we had decided to get a quote on but it wasn't the cake we wanted at all. It would be pretty but it wasn't our vision. The delivery fee was also going to be more than a baker in Bloomington was charging. If Bill had discussed our vision in the beginning, we would have known that we wasn't going to be able to use their bakery and would have saved us the cost for the Taste test. I would definitely check with them for cakes in the future but only if it's a cake that I can pick up and take with me. PS - the cake was also going to be almost triple what we are paying with our current baker.

helped us acted like he hated his job and he definitely didn't want to be at work or sitting with us trying cakes. It was very odd! We tasted several cakes, many of which really were not very good. Dry, flavorless and like they had been sitting out for a few days. In the end we decided that no one ever remembers the cake at a wedding and it just wasn't that important to us. Since it was included in our package (although every little flower and décor was an add on cost), we just ordered a basic 4 tier lemon cake with butter cream frosting and left feeling defeated. Had it not been included in our package, and/or if the cake was more important to us, we would have walked out and gone somewhere else. Much to our surprise, the cake showed up, looked good (although missing the buttercream flowers we had chosen) and it was delicious! The one day of drama from the sales guy turned out not to be such a big deal since the cake was actually tasty. I guess to any bride who has it as part of a venue package, I'd say go for it. To anyone paying for a cake, go somewhere that they make the experience fun for you! There's enough stress planning a wedding to be bothered with a salesman who could care less whether you're there or not.

r cake being delivered at our venue, everything went smoothly and Bill was great to work with. Our almond cake with fudge filling was a huge hit and we can't wait to eat the leftovers on our 1 year anniversary!

kind of cake we should go with. The final product was beautiful designed and exactly what we wanted. It was delicious!

had low expectations. During the cake tasting, we realized what a deal we were getting. There were plenty of options that had no extra costs, but were still great. Bill at the North Ave. location was very friendly, explained everything thoroughly, and did not push us to spend extra money at all. We were grateful for his thorough explanations, because we didn’t know much about the different frostings, fillings, cakes, etc. Overall, definitely recommend Oak Mill Bakery!

eated exactly what I envisioned. And our cake was delicious. It tasted so good--I cannot wait for our first anniversary to have some more!

!

aste the cakes. The cake samples were not complete samples but very thin slices of cake, each slice had 3 different cake flavors and 2 different fillings. These pre-made samplings didn't even match what we had requested. To make up for this he had small "ketchup cup" style frosting samples for use to put on top of the cake slices. We tried all the cakes and initially thought they were a bit dry but chalked it up to being the sample pieces that had probably been sitting around for a while. It was quite hard to narrow down the cake flavors because the size of the samples were so small it was hard to get a good idea of what we really liked. The Cake Designer definitely didn’t go out of his way and didn’t have a personable personality. We finally picked one and decided to order a 6" cake (for $35) to confirm that we really liked it. The following weekend we picked up our 6” cake and it disappointed us further. Our whole family tried it at the same time and just starred at each other. The cake was absolutely terrible; the cake was dry, the buttercream frosting was hard, and the flavors didn’t taste all that great together. I eventually decided to call the bakery and tell them about our experience to see if we could taste our second favorite combination of cake flavors in another 6” cake. Instead of being apologetic they tried to blame the bad cake on me. “Was it covered in with saran wrap in the refrigerator?” “Did you leave it out for a long time before eating it?” “Maybe you just don’t have the right taste for that kind of cake.” I asked for another 6” cake but in our second favorite cake flavor and he attempted to charge me another $35. At this point I had had enough. I asked to speak with the manager so he gave me the number of who to call. When I called the manager she was just as disrespectful. I was appalled. This company obviously doesn't know what customer service is, much less how to bake a moist cake! DO NOT GO HERE!
