We had a fabulous stay at Oakland. We were based out of the Oak Grove Cottage, and boy were the views to die for! Everything in the cabin was neat, tidy, and sufficient for the low maintenance stay we desired. The little beach furnished with Ad...
irondack chairs is perfect for evening relaxation. To top it off, the owner and all of the staff were more than accommodating and helpful. The breakfast blueberry crisp was out of this world delicious! Thanks so much for a great stay.

This place is magical. The setting is superb and so tranquil, the private beach is lovely, and it's very easy to explore some of the most beautiful parts of Maine nearby (Deer Isle, Blue Hill hikes, Acadia is only an hour away even), and the in...
n is very comfortable and cosy. I will be back. A bit of a shame they weren't serving any food for any meals which we weren't prepared for but otherwise a wonderful stay.

We rented a cottage here and can't wait to come back! The grounds are lovely, quiet, and well maintained with gorgeous views. The cottage was a delightful spot with lots to explore nearby.

Looking to get away from it all- to step back in time among the prettiest location ever- to making memories to last a lifetime and meet the friendliest people ever- well then this would be place for you. We spent the last weekend here in Flags...
taff cottage with a wonderful porch we couldn't get enough of and our children and other family members had rooms at the inn. Our son got married in Stonington and we were able to use the inn for prep before and relaxing and gathering afterwards. It was magical!!! The weekend of course was to be special- but our stay at these wonderful accommodations made it even more so. The staff is so helpful and welcoming, the beach is a place of quiet and serene beauty, and the area continued to surprise us as around each bend we found another spectacular sight.

Way too much to put up with. My stay at Oakland House, for a nearby wedding, left a bad taste. The main issue was the lack of accessibility after hours. The incident involved a gigantic insect, apparently lodged in the lamp, that careened off t...
he walls of my room. These insects are apparently native to Maine, but it was impossible to sleep--and it was terrorizing. It took 90 minutes before the thing landed on the floor and I could kill it. I called the help numbers listed, but all went to voicemail. No one was available. This egregious lapse in security was completely unacceptable, especially given that Oakland House is in the middle of nowhere.
When I posted a review to TripAdvisor, describing the incident, the owner responded immediately to say that they had remedied the situation by adding another help number. I am glad they did this, but the owners never reached out to me personally, even after I wrote several emails and called. The proper thing to do was to comp me for that night's stay as a show of responsibility.
This sense of cheapness pervades Oakland House. The fees are on a luxury level, yet services are poor. No one to help with luggage. Noisy portable AC. No closet, and the armoire did not have a bar on which I could hang clothes. The lack of a restaurant was written off by the owners as "oh, the chef left at the last minute," a victim stance. Hire another and pay the person decently. The coffee that was provided--by a rude person--was insufficient, as were the totally unappetizing plastic-wrapped, mass-market muffins.
That said, the rooms were clean and the bathroom large. Nice towels. Mainly, not enough of anything, including staff.
