The First Look
Nestled upon the scenic shores of Lake Wawasee in Syracuse, Indiana, the Oakwood Resort is a luxurious getaway spot that offers top-notch lodging, fine dining, entertainment and an on-site spa. Accessible from Chicago, Indianapolis, Fort Wayne and South Bend, this destination location has a number of venues available for private rentals, both inside and out. There’s options for intimate gatherings, lavish galas and everything in between, so couples on the lookout for an Indianapolis venue to celebrate their wedding and reception might want to check out what this resort has to offer. Also welcome here are showers, anniversary parties and cocktail hours.
Hilltop Banquet Center. Featuring stunning views of Lake Wawasee, this two-story banquet facility is able to accommodate up to 500 guests, with as many as 250 people on each floor. Ideal for a memorable reception, the inside boasts vaulted, wood-beamed ceilings, elegant chandeliers and an oversized stone fireplace. The second story has a walk-out terrace overlooking the lake, which also gives guests access to stairs leading to the ground-level brick patio. The outdoor patio and terrace can be used for cocktails or for a ceremony as well.
Event Center. The highlight of this spacious venue is its contemporary auditorium, which connects to various banquet rooms. With enough space to hold 700 guests, the room has a raised stage for entertainment, impressive cathedral ceilings and bright windows overlooking the grounds. It is available for both ceremonies and receptions.
Gazebo. An outdoor ceremony site on the edge of the lake, this intimate location is nestled within the resort’s manicured lakeside gardens. Couples tie the knot in front of a traditional white gazebo, as a few guests watch on from folding chairs on the lawn.
Lawn Ceremony. For a larger outdoor ceremony, some couples might want to say ?I do? on the lawn, which runs along the lake’s refreshing shoreline. An elegantly simple altar stands at the edge of the water, serving as the backdrop to the vows. A tented reception may also take place on the lawn.
What You Should Know
In addition to the venues outlined above, the resort has various meeting spaces available for private rentals as well, which are ideal for smaller indoor receptions. Depending on which room is selected, there’s banquet seating for as few as 16 guests or as many as 48. A couple of the rooms can also be combined, which can accommodate gatherings with up to 144 guests.

Should couples wish to have a cash bar instead, there is that option as well.

Murphy/Fiorenza WeddingReviewed on 9/09/2013 Kate F
Our daughter was married on the shore of Lake Wawasee at Oakwood Resort on August 3, 2013. The reception for 100 guests followed at the Oakwood "Hilltop" overlooking the lake and wooded grounds. What fantastic venues for both events! Carol and Katie could not have been more accommodating throughout the planning process. They coordinated efficiently with the vendors to make sure the wedding day ran smoothly. The hotel featured their own spa, nail and hair salon, which was particularly convenient for the bridal party. Steve and Todd were wonderful hotel staffers who made sure our guests had the best accommodations available. If you're looking for an overall remarkable experience, I would highly recommend Oakwood Resort for your special day!
We got married at the Hilltop building on September 10, 2016. The venue is absolutely beautiful and the food was amazing. We really did have the best night of our lives. We worked with Kaila for most of the planning who was great but quit right before our wedding. This lead to some confusion and little details that were just forgotten but Julia and especially the younger girl (I can't remember her name at the moment) who were helping were both great. However, Sharon, another wedding coordinator was unfortunately there right before the ceremony was absolutely awful. She was rude to my family and the bridal party as well as the groom and I. She was going on about how terrible everything was going and how we shouldn't have moved everything outside because it was sure to rain moments before my dad walked me down the aisle (it sprinkled for less then 30 seconds and the ceremony was beautiful). She also was very rude to our family members who helped move things outside when the weather cleared up. Luckily she left shortly after the ceremony and the reception was a ton of fun and attitude free.
Oakwood is a beautiful venue for a wedding. However some of the event staff and summer interns left a little to be desired. The desk staff and salon were very helpful.

The place is beautiful and the staff are wonderful. Julia, the event coordinator, is amazing to work with and very helpful. She can answer any questions or concerns you might have.
