much fun on our engagement shoots (note: kate insisted we have a second shoot because our first was cut a little short due to rain…great service!). agement shoot in Seaside Park and even drove to 2 different locations for us! And then COVID happened, causing us to postpone our wedding to a new date she was the first person we called! She even made the time to come and photograph our micro ceremony that we decided to have and it meant the world to us!! It was such a special day for us and we can't thank her enough for being there to capture it all. We finally were able to have our reception and Kate, Simmone and Kelly were the first ones to arrive and last ones to leave. They captured EVERYTHING. They made the day so amazing by always fixing me up before photos, being so organized and not missing anything. They made it feel like such a breeze from getting ready to the bridal party photos to the reception and all the way to the end of the night. We are so happy they were by our side for the whole time. I cannot explain how excited we get when we receive the email that our photos are ready!! We cherish so many of the memories that she and her team have captured of us through these years. Kate and her assistants were able to make me feel like a beautiful bride, even though my medical challenges made for a rocky start to the day, and they were able to wrangle my groom and his boys into place despite their limited attention spans and propensity for goofing off. The photographers' directions were clear and concise, which made for a quick and easy shoot after the ceremony so we could enjoy our cocktail hour, and the candids of our guests throughout the evening really captured the spirit of the celebration. ated. She also sent us this amazing survey with fun, thoughtful questions so that she could get to know my husband and I as a couple. It was so much fun to fill out! I am incredibly detail and time oriented, so I sent her a few long emails that were essentially me word dumping/overthinking things about certain photos I wanted. She responded each time with patience and good humor. The day of our wedding, she and her second shooter, Kiera, blended right in with our family and friends. We all loved her and everyone was asking if she could join our girl squad. Ok, so Kate is a fantastic human, we've established that. BUT THOSE PICTURES THO. We've only seen the sneak peeks so far but holy cannoli. They say pictures are worth a thousand words, but Kate crammed 10,000 words in each photo with elegance, fun, and skill. Instead of a traditional wedding ceremony, we had a sketch comedy/improv show that was chaotic and unpredictable. Basically, shooting our wedding was like capturing a theater show/sporting event/fashion photoshoot all in one, but Kate rolled with the punches effortlessly. Her photos embodied all the personality of our unconventional day and showed us intimate moments we didn't even realize had happened. Kate was so pleasant and sweet to work with in person, plus she did a fantastic job of directing the wedding portraits. She made everyone feel awesome and comfortable on camera and worked efficiently on a limited time-frame without making us feel rushed. Not only did we have Kate as our photographer, but her husband (Ryan, who was recently ordained) married us! This dynamic duo traveled to Saratoga, NY to capture our wedding day, and Ryan explained to us exactly what we needed to do with our marriage license for NY from the very beginning, giving us clear and simple direction. He offered a sample ceremony script as well and did a wonderful job! His voice is really calming and soothing, so it really helped with our nerves the day of. Upon seeing our photos, people are constantly in awe with the quality and always ask about our photographer. The day after our wedding Kate sent us a "sneak peek" of some photos which consisted of dozens of perfectly edited shots from the night. Kate also really took the time to get to know us as well. She met with me in person the first time and it was love at first sight for me. I went home and told my then fiancee that i found our photographer. I showed him 5 of her photos and that was all he needed to see. The second time we got together was to meet her husband, and we met for happy hour. The 4 of us got along so well, he and I forgot we were on a meet and greet and just felt like we were hanging with our new friends! Over the months leading up to our wedding, she sent us questionnaires to get a sense of our styles and personalities, and all of her efforts really made us feel like she was totally invested in us- which she genuinely was. All in all, I cannot say enough positive things about Kate and Ryan. If you are on the fence, I truly recommend just reaching out to her as she will really take the time to answer any of your questions and will ease any nerves you have about this process.

wanted. Beforehand, we were skeptical of having our photos taken- both of us would have said we were a bit camera shy. But Kate had us smiling, laughing, and being our regular goofy selves within minutes. We knew right away that we had made the right call in hiring her! In the months leading up to our wedding, Kate really worked to get to know us and understand our vision for our wedding photos. She made us feel sane and organized by ensuring that she thought of every detail and aspect of the timeline before the big day. We live across the country from Philadelphia, where we got married, but planning/coordinating at a distance could not have been easier. Kate was especially adept at putting me and my husband at ease in front of the camera, both during our engagement photos and on our wedding day. She got natural smiles out of a couple of people whose default looks range from goofball to awkward. Husband also notes that he was impressed by her ability to pace the sessions to keep him from getting grumpy/tired (several hours in front of a camera is hard work!). Finally, I should note that Kate's Instagram account (@opalandjayephoto) is beautifully curated and gives a great feel for her photography style. AND she made us and our wedding look that cool. Aside from her outstanding professionalism and incredibly talented body of work, she is an absolutely amazing human. All of our wedding guests commented on how comfortable she made them feel, and put them at ease to pose for pictures. Within 2 weeks of our wedding, she had touched up a bunch of “sneak peek” pics, and we were completely floored. Our family is forever thankful for the way she captured the best day ever. She managed to incorporate a sense of movement in every shot. We opted not to do any videography, and thanks to Kate, we are able to relive the magic of the day over and over.
