Honestly, I didn’t really want to make this review simply because I hate putting a bad light on people but after speaking to multiple of my guest/friends that attended my wedding it seems like it’ll be the best thing to do principal wise. I met... DJ Papa Rooster at a bridal expo in Birmingham, AL and he sold us so well. He was nice, engaging, and said he would do all these things but when the day came for our wedding he was nothing that he sold us on. I want to start off saying that this review isn’t about his skillset — I think he is a great DJ when it comes to his craft but when it comes to catering to his clientele he dropped the ball bad. He told us that he would not only be a DJ but a MC; never once left the DJ booth to entertain the crowd, when it came to our garter toss and other wedding activities — he almost forgot to do it to the point my husband had to remind him, I also bought shirts off Etsy that I wanted to get thrown in the crowd that was given to him before his set and he totally forgot to throw them out — that was about $70 thrown into the trash BUT the thing that really made me and my husband upset was the wedding playlist… I had a range of kids starting at the age of 5-11 to grandparents and multiple of my friends parents and inlaws at my wedding reception and he had us make a do playlist for our wedding and not once did I hear any song that was on my playlist, instead I heard the opposite. It was to the point I had to go up and suggest songs from my playlist for it to be heard and when I did some of those weren’t played. Me and my husband love music; and although I wasn’t expecting to hear every single song on the playlist I atleast was wanting to hear one of the songs because we were sent a spreadsheet to fill out months beforehand. He was someone we bragged on and was excited for and for him to end up playing sexy redd, other extremely provocative music, and music to where it sounded like a frat party wasn’t the type of environment we were wanting to create. When I confronted him the next day about the issue he had said that our playlist suggested this type of music but when I look back at playlist we had songs by Marvin Gaye, The Foundations, Bee Gees, Whitney Houston, Micheal Jackson, Beyonce and NONE of them were played. The point is, he won’t receive the flack for this because it’s going to seem like we wanted things like that he played when ideally we didn’t at all. I want to lastly end on what made me feel validated is that I had a wedding planner actually attend the wedding and reach out to me without me saying anything to her and asked what my experience was with him and she disclosed to me that she has worked with him before and she told me that he has done this before and the brides were too passive to leave a review. I am going to provide screenshots of it as well.
Overall, I hope this is helpful for someone and please make sure when you book entertainment for your wedding please, please, please ask around about that person.
