Pennie's Bake Shop & Espresso Bar

We decided to use Pennie’s Bake Shop for our wedding cake after meeting Pennie and tasting samples at a venue open house. Not only were her cakes stunningly beautiful, they tasted AMAZING. The perfect buttercream icing, in my opinion! Our cake tasting session was deliciously (ha) fun, not considering the difficult process of nailing down just a few flavors! However, when it came to our wedding day, there was a slight discrepancy in the way the cake was decorated. We had asked for horizontal knife strokes but received a cake with vertical knife strokes. Again, not a huge deal at all--the cake looked beautiful, tasted great, and was exactly what we asked for, except for the direction of the knife strokes. After the wedding, we brought this small issue to Pennie’s attention. We really just wanted to give feedback so that it could help Pennie and her bakers further refine their process to avoid errors with future clients. Pennie got back to us right away and was so gracious and apologetic. She claimed full responsibility and was very sincere in her apology. She was so kind about it that we started to feel guilty for even bringing the whole thing to her attention. She offered us a partial refund to help reconcile our disappointment--which again was only like a 1/10 on the disappointment scale! We thought Pennie’s professionalism and handling of the situation were so great. We really appreciated her responsiveness and her graciousness in handling even a small complaint. For this reason, we still give her 10/10 (or at least 9.999/10!). After all, mistakes do happen and bakers are humans too! But she embraced it whole-heartedly and made it clear that she cares about her clients’ satisfaction. If you’re looking for incredibly decadent, beautiful cakes AND stellar service and professionalism, look no further than Pennie’s Bake Shop!

The cake looked way more beautiful than I had imagined it and our guests kept asking where it was from! Tasted and looked great!

I was a very non-traditional Pittsburgh area bride, and did not want a cookie table as I did not understand the tradition what so ever (I'm from the state of California!). My husband and I compromised and went for a smaller cake, while subbing a dessert bar for our guests (the idea came from Mike at the shop!). The crew at Pennie's was more than willing to accommodate our request and executed it perfectly! Our guests couldn't stop talking about how much they enjoyed it - and I did not hear one comment about a cookie table! Seriously can not thank Pennie's enough for what they did for us on our wedding day. You guys are the best!

We were able to just send her a photo of our "inspiration" table, and we had one phone conversation about a month before the wedding about the "look" of the tiered cake, and then she took care of set up that day as promised with our topper and everything looked beautiful. mes I called no one seemed to remember our order, which made me a little nervous. However, the cake was decorated exactly as I had wanted, and was delivered on time. I had originally talked about having more layers of icing/to cake ratio in each tier, which I guess was lost in translation. When I looked at our bill, we weren't charged for it, so I wasn't too mad just slightly disappointed in this mistake.

k for? Pennie has very fair prices and even worked with us to bring the cost down by making sheet cakes to put in the back for our nearly 200 guests. We would highly recommend Pennie's Bake Shop to anyone looking for a delicious cake for any and all occasions! You will not be disappointed!
