Philip Carter Strother and his family have called this property home for generations, cultivating its lands and meticulously maintaining its grounds. Charles Carter made up a part of the Virginia assembly in charge of economic diversification after the depression in the tobacco trade. On this board, he was a leader in the movement to encourage arts, commerce, and manufacturing. Charles grew native and European grape varieties at his King George County property, rendering him a proponent of winemaking as a method of economic recovery. By the year 1762, Charles had 1,800 vines growing at his estate. The product of these grapes was sent to the London society, where it was judged to be a successful attempt at winemaking in America. Notably, this recognition made these the first American wines of respected renown. Nowadays, a direct descendant of Charles Carter, Philip Carter Strother, runs his successful winery in Fauquier County. Keeping in the Carter family tradition, Philip is active and instrumental in various winery acts and regulations. His vision is to influence a healthy and sustainable industry while having a positive impact on the local community. Couples hosting their wedding at Philip Carter Winery can do so in their location of preference. Celebrations may take place inside, where between 75 and 90 guests can attend, or outside, where up to 150 guests can be witness to a union. Smaller and more intimate functions can take place in the Rosewell Suite, a space that enjoys vineyard views and private tastings. Alternatively, larger gatherings can take place in Cleve Hall, a banquet space that pays homage to Philip’s ancestor Charles Carter. Outside, a tent can be set up on the lawn, ideal for more substantially-sized groups. In addition to these spaces, there are also get-ready rooms, ADA compliant restrooms, and an elegant tasting bar.
