While we love Pier A for the restaurant and bar, we encountered some challenges with the events staff in hosting our Wedding rehearsal dinner and welcome drinks. For the premium pr...
ice point, we were disappointed by the lack of coordination of the events staff (team members were absent, dropoff the day before was delayed, communication was lacking).
The location and views were wonderful, as expected, but the itemized charges seemed excessive (a bartender staffing fee in addition to the bar package, tax, administrative fee and gratuity). For a ~$100 per person dinner before alcohol, a 20% administrative charge that DOES NOT include gratuity seems exorbitant.
The food, drinks and atmosphere were excellent, but be prepared to overpay significantly relative to other locations in the City.
Be careful if you use Pier A to host anything wedding related. My now husband and I booked Pier A to host our post-wedding brunch, and they over charged us for guests. When we comp...
lained, they suggested they could look at the security video to confirm the exact number. That must have been a bluff, because when we said we'd like a to see a copy of the security video, as well, they stopped answering email and we haven't heard from them since.
For what it's worth, this wasn't all bad. The food was good and the first person we worked with, Hannah, customized the menu to our liking and gave us a good price. She stopped working for Pier A before our brunch and we never heard from anyone again until the day we showed up. That should have been a red flag, that no one contacted us to confirm any last minute details.
I set up an evite to handle the invitations, but my husband wasn't paying any attention to it or how many people were coming. At the end of the brunch, Peter, the onsite host, came up to him and said his final count was 65 guests, but not to worry, he'd only charge us for 60. My husband thought he was being nice and giving us a deal, so he gladly paid the overage. It wasn't until after I said I only invited 50 people, and some of them were kids, who shouldn't have been paid for at full price anyway.

ed with fabulous food, and impeccable service made our dinner event so memorable. Can not thank Chrissy V and the staff enough for all of the thoughtful planning, support and going above and beyond for us. OUTSTANDING!
Pier A saved our wedding. After finding out that our original venue had a fire and was no longer usable, all we could do was think our day was over. But they stepped up to the pl...
ate and gave us the best wedding ever. We are so very thankful and appreciative that they opened their doors for us, our family and friends and provided such a memorable night for everyone there.
Everything was amazing...the decor, the food, the view and the professionalism and friendliness of the staff. Each staff member we encountered was go gracious and courteous to us, it really made us feel so welcome and at ease.
Our family and friends are still telling us how amazing Pier A was and it was one of the best weddings they've ever been to.
My husband and I hosted a brunch the day after our sons wedding in September 2015. Christiana the sales and events manager went above and beyond to assist us in planning this event...
from the very first day we spoke to her. We hosted 250 people for brunch on the second floor of Pier A. We had the entire 2nd floor including the bar and the outside deck. The food was in abundance, the presentation was sensational and of course delicious! The staff including bartenders and wait staff were very attentive and professional. Our brunch lasted for 3 hours. During that time no one was in need of food or beverage. After the brunch, Christiana set aside an area of the bar and outside seating area on the first floor which she had portioned off and placed a sign stating private party. She also included a waiter and bartender for our area. Any of our brunch guests who wanted to stay were given wrist bands and we continued with an after brunch party for 3 hours. Let me just say, this group knows how to party and Christiana and the staff at Pier A could not have been more professional, pleasant and accommodating. The venue is breathtaking and historic! The food and beverages as stated earlier were delicious and plentiful! Our guests still talk about "that" brunch every time I see them!
Pier A was the perfect venue for our May wedding. After what seemed endless search through impersonal over-priced venues, we were lucky to stumble upon Pier A just as they were op...
ening their party space. The moment we walked in, we knew Pier A was for us. The location added so much character and spirit to the old New York vibe we were going for. Christiana and the staff delivered high-end service and worked with us on every detail to make our day memorable. We never felt pressured or up-sold during the contract process. We felt that Pier A made our happiness a priority every step of the way. We had 100 people in the loft space upstairs and had plenty of room for a dance floor. We held the cocktail hour at the bar in the loft as well and then opened the room up for dinner and dancing. The food was sophisticated and well thought out. One year later, our guests still rave about our beautiful wedding! Added bonus: returning to celebrate our anniversary at the restaurant!
From start to finish, Christina and the team at Pier A brought us a wonderful experience for our wedding party. The room is spectacular and comfortable - it FEELS like a party wit...
h the views alone, but the service, food, and warmth from the team working the event made it just the event we were hoping for. We did sliders and appetizers and desserts... the food and the views were the reason we chose Pier A and they didn't disappoint.
We were travelling from the UK for our wedding in NYC in Sept 2015 and after struggling to find a venue for our small group of 20 at a reasonable price we stumbled on Pier A by acc...
ident one afternoon. So glad we did!
After a slightly shaky start with the previous events coordinator, Christiana joined the team and, along with Michael from the restaurant, we were looked after brilliantly. Arranging things from overseas was a tad scary but they stayed in touch regularly and even sent us video clips of the room set up, different bar areas etc to help with our planning.
We were originally only planning to have our reception dinner at Pier A as we had a permit to get married in Central Park however at very short notice the Pope's visit to NYC ruined our plans with the Parks Authority revoking our licence 3 weeks before the big day. Christiana was amazingly supportive and we worked out a way to have both our ceremony and dinner at Pier A instead. It worked out perfectly.
We had our ceremony on the balcony overlooking the harbour and Statue of Liberty. Christiana was hugely helpful in letting us drop by a few days before to let us store some things, see the rooms, tables etc. On the morning of the wedding myself and a couple of friends went and set up the finishing touches to the room, arrange flowers and decorate the balcony.
We'd chosen the premium drinks package for everyone so the groom and guests had arrival drinks in the Commissioner's Bar, which Christiana had reserved for our use, with lots of cocktails flowing and our playlist on in the background.
The ceremony on the balcony was lovely apart from some slight noise from helicopters flying around the harbour and that we couldn't have more than a couple of chairs out their due to weight and fire regulations. We then had drinks on the balcony and Commissioner's Bar and canapés which were lovely and we felt like we got a huge amount for what we paid - they just kept coming round with more!
We then had dinner in the New Yorker room. The room was laid out as we'd asked with nice white linen, candles etc. They provided a TV and speaker system at no additional cost and let us decorate with some bunting etc.
We'd picked the menu but being in the UK hadn't actually been able to have a tasting before the big day. We weren't disappointed. The crabcake to start, tenderloin and chicken options for main and apple crumble were all really tasty with good sized portions. Everyone was really happy with their food. The waiting service was efficient but not intrusive which is just what we wanted.
We then relaxed with drinks and music and the room had enough space for a mini dance floor which we hadn't really planned on needing but my friends made good use of! We had the room booked for the evening but a slight misunderstanding meant that Christiana was expecting us to vacate earlier (about 10pm) than we were planning too. No problem though as we all just moved downstairs to the main bar and carried on down there on the deck outside as it was a warm evening.
We then had a suite at the Ritz Carlton just across the road which was really lovely and I'd also recommend if you want somewhere closeby.
So - location, venue, staff, food, drinks, price were all brilliant and I wouldn't hesitate to recommend Pier A for your wedding!
Best venue in NYC for a wedding!
We thoroughly researched wedding venues in NYC from Australia as that is where we live. We also had the assistance from a very close friend who liv...
es in NYC. Our friend suggested to look at Pier A. We made contact with Christiana Vasilas who is the events manager who could not have been more helpful, accommodating and professional.
We opted to have the wedding reception in the Commissioners Bar which has the most exquisite balcony overlooking the Hudson river and the Statue of Liberty. We had 24 guests at the wedding and this was the most perfect space for a small wedding.
It was an afternoon wedding and we opted for a drinks and finger food package which I found to be very reasonably priced after our extensive research of venues in NYC. The food was AMAZING, it was not only presented beautifully, and served by friendly professional staff, it was great quality and very delicious. I can not speak highly enough of the food and drinks that were served.
But the location and venue I feel is one of the best in NYC...the view - incredible... and the charm of the commissioner bar, was outstanding. It has the feel of an exclusive boating club. It has been newly refurbished and is very unique and beautiful to set the perfect location for a ceremony. We were able to bring our own music and decorations. The staff went above and beyond to make everyone comfortable. I would highly recommend Pier A as we could not have been more happy with our wedding reception.
We held the wedding ceremony on the balcony and reception in the bar which held the guests comfortably and certainly set a scene to remember. We had some fussy guests form Australia who were very impressed with the venue and service. This venue ticks every box. I cannot recommend it highly enough.

Pier A was a fabulous venue. Between the architecture and design, the entire space is new, polished, cool and interesting. And obviously, the views from the pier and Battery Park...
are spectacular. Lady Liberty is right there cheering on your wedding.
We were one of the first couples to get married there in May 2015. We had about 90 guests and the venue was spacious without feeling empty. You can easily arrange the tables so there is a dance floor and the bar area is a great place for people to mingle. Added bonus is that there is a built in after party space downstairs at the popular long hall bar.
Gabrielle was a pleasure to work with. She was amenable to just about any request we had and worked with us to make our wedding dreams a reality. As an example, we decided to go with lanterns as the centerpieces. We sent her a picture of how we wanted the tables set up and dropped off everything two days before. When we arrived on the day of the reception everything was set up perfectly. We also received tons of compliments on the food and drinks.
Great service, great food, great venue. And we still go there all. the. time. which makes it feel very special. Too bad we don’t get complimentary drinks for having the wedding there.
