Pierpont's at Union Station

t a number of restaurants close to Union Station, since we were getting married at the Arvin Gottlieb Planetarium, and the rehearsal was also scheduled for a First Friday. It would have been a madhouse to try to go anywhere beyond Crown Center/Union Station/The Freighthouse District. Much to our surprise and delight, not only were the options at Pierpont's very flexible (we could choose to do a set menu or have everyone order off of the main menu,) the minimum required for one of their private dining rooms is actually extremely reasonable and far better than any of the other nearby offerings. We made our reservation, and opted to have everyone order off of the menu. We were treated extremely well by the staff, The ambiance was warm and comfortable, the food was spectacular, and everyone left feeling as though they had a truly extraordinary dining experience. We were incredibly happy with the whole experience, and we will definitely be back for a date night on our own.

However, as I researched venues I ended up changing my selection from Union Station to The Midland Theatre because I felt the space would be more suitable for my smaller number of guests. Still, I wanted to have Pierpont's be a part of my wedding in some way, especially since my groom and I always go there for our anniversary dinners. The rehearsal dinner was the perfect way to incorporate Pierpont's! Heidi helped me select a menu line-up that would work for my guests, and let me arrange for a cash bar so that my future Mother-In-Law wouldn't have to pay for every Jack and Coke the groomsmen ordered. Heidi always responded to my questions and emails immediately, and she was very helpful in getting the event booked easily for a great price. We had about 30+ people at the dinner, so we ended up booking their Loft room instead of a downstairs private room (which only holds about 20 people). I had never been inside the Loft but it is really cool and has windows looking down at the main lobby of Union Station and The Grand Hallway! The room was intimate and cozy, but still gave us these really sweeping views out the windows; it was really unique. The food was of course spectacular, everyone went on and on about it all night! The servers were friendly, and they even turned down the music when it was time for toasts. After the dinner was over, those of us still mingling went downstairs into the gorgeous bar area and had a couple more drinks until we were ready to turn in for the night. Pierpont's and Union Station are two major jewels of not only Kansas City, but also of the Midwest as a whole. I was super happy to show my out-of-town bridesmaids and groomsmen a look at the old-world beauty my city has to offer, AND be able to give them some amazing food at the same time! From the way they were all snapping photos of the building and of the Pierpont's bar, I know it was a place they won't soon forget. I'm so glad I made this choice!

was because the food was awesome. I have gotten so many compliments on the food, both dinner and hors d'oeuvres. Heidi is the point person for catering and she is fantastic. Many times my husband and I would say to each other, "I think Heidi knows everything." Their staff took incredible care of us. They worked around our schedule as out of state students in order to have all of the meetings we needed. Their menu contains quite a range of prices (I ended up choosing something on the low end, but only because it's the kind of food I like!) but it is ALL very good. Also, for an open bar we only paid per drink instead of per head, which is a great thing for people like us who have friends who do drink and friends who don't. I felt taken care of every step of the way, never worried about a thing in their care, and loved the food and service. With Pierpont's you really can't lose.
