One day, he was experimenting with his scroll saw and figured out how to double cut names through a block of wood at right angles, so that one name would be visible when held one way, but another name would be visible if the block of wood were rotated 90 degrees. When he showed his son, Reid, they discovered that by using 3D printing, they wouldn't be limited by the thickness of the scroll saw blade, so that they could join not just names, but images and phrases. Reid developed a custom process that allows him to make special prints by design, and Pivot Prints 3D Studios was born.
