If you’ve ever been to Plum, you know their desserts are truly next level. I don’t live in Durham anymore, but I try to go by for the amazing food and desserts every time I’m in town.
When it came to choosing a cake vendor for my wedding, I didn't look anywhere else once I found out Plum did wedding cakes . It was the easiest decision I made.
The whole experience of working with Plum/Emma was seamless and enjoyable. She walked us through the process at the outset, shared design inspiration, and provided a very long list of flavors to choose from. I’m a big baker/desserts person, so my priority was having cakes that tasted as good as they looked (a rarity at weddings). In addition to the dozens of flavors on Emma's list, she was also open to experimenting by coming up with new flavors or adjusting her existing combinations to make sure we were happy. We did four different types of cake –Funfetti for the cutting cake and Salted Caramel, Strawberries and Cream, and Decadent Chocolate for the cakes we served. Emma recommended doing one real layer of the cutting cake with two faux tiers and having sheet cakes for the others to make sure the cakes were all as fresh as possible and everything could be sliced and ready to serve immediately after the cutting. We followed her guidance, and the cakes were beautiful and delicious.
There were so many stressful parts of the wedding planning process, but the cake wasn’t one of them. I felt like I was in the best hands possible. I HIGHLY recommend Plum and Emma for any and all of your wedding/special event dessert needs!
My husband and I hosted a 2-part wedding event at Plum. The first part was a small dinner in the private room and for the second part of the night we rented out the restaurant and had approximately 80 guests for cocktails and cake.
Everything about the event was perfect. Emma (the event coordinator and pastry chef) made the planning a breeze. She had great ideas and suggestions for the event, was extremely organized, and easy to communicate with. All I had to do was pick the menu and show up on the wedding day! The restaurant and private room are tastefully decorated, so I did not add any decorations other than a few flowers on the dinner table.
The dinner was served family style and the chef (Trent) allowed us to make a few changes to the menu to suit our preferences. From the cheddar cheese biscuit appetizer to filet with chimichurri sauce and collard greens, everything we ate at dinner was delicious. Many of the guests told me how impressed they were with the food and would make a special trip to Plum to eat again. We also had multiple guests with food allergies, a vegan/GF guest and a vegetarian guest. All of these guests were taken care of extremely well and the vegetarian/vegan guests loved their special entre.
Emma made a beautiful, three tier wedding cake, which was absolutely amazing. Multiple people told me afterwards that they had 2 or 3 pieces of cake because it was so good and wanted to try every flavor!
I cannot give enough compliments to Emma, Trent and the entire staff at Plum. They made a special day even better with the enthusiasm and care they devoted to our event.
