POP of Color

We booked with Pop of Color for our destination wedding. Melissa was easy to work with for booking and deposits. But the real winner is Elizabeth and Danielle! Elizabeth was amazing!!! I can't say enough wonderful things about her. She called on the phone before to get my vision and nailed it beautifully. She was prompt, even though we weren't. She worked with us the whole day. She was personable and fun. All of the girls absolutely loved their makeup. It stayed on perfectly all night too. Danielle was our hair stylist. She made a great team with Elizabeth. You could tell they vibed well together. She did a perfect job down to the last detail. She also accommodated us when we wanted to add extra people the day of. We can't thank them enough for everything they did and how easy they made it all look. We would 10/10 recommend them for any event. You can't go wrong with Pop of Color.

Pop of color was great!!! We had Elizabeth Roberts and Haley Worley for hair and Elizabeth Hayward and Manning Lucas for makeup. Each artist was so talented and kind and we really enjoyed working with them. They were a fun addition to the morning of the wedding and everyone's hair and makeup turned out amazing!!! They were all flexible with people's wishes and adaptable with any changes to the schedule. Elizabeth H and Elizabeth R did the bridal makeup/hair and wow, they exceeded expectations!! They made sure everything was perfect and I (as the bride) didn't feel like I was weighed down my the makeup and the hair was comfortable and secure for the entire day. Highly recommend!! Very talented group!!

I chose Pop of Color because after talking to Melissa on the phone, I felt comfortable that they would be able to provide beautiful hair & makeup for a group that rarely wears makeup and wanted to feel our best selves without feeling overwhelmed. It was truly a joy to watch each of my bridesmaids, mother, and MIL see their hair and makeup for the first time- everyone was thrilled with it and also felt comfortable asking for something different, touch-ups, etc. Everyone's hair and makeup held up through many hours of ceremony, dinner, and dancing. Full disclosure- the only hiccup was that scheduling my hair/makeup trial was a challenge and required lots of follow-up over a number of months, then, a scheduling issue the day of accidentally cancelled my trial. It all worked out though as Melissa moved her schedule around to accommodate me and everything went off without a hitch. I think it says quite a bit that they were able to adapt to the situation and make it work (in life, things go wrong all the time, but the response matters!).

At the time of choosing Pop of color I didn't know of any local makeup/hair artist. So, I decided to use the vendor list associated with my venue. Of my options I chose Pop of Color simply because they had did 1 person of color (customer) on their Instagram page. Where as the other vendor had no diversity, so I decided to take my chances. I asked the owner of Pop of Color if they were comfortable with people of color and curly hair. She said yes. As a precaution I even sent pictures of everyone in my party including myself and again I was assured it wouldn't be a problem. Once I selected them I was told that although my package covered 3 people I would need to supply 4. I said okay since I was already planning to pay for four anyway. This is where the issues started. The owner would often take weeks and usually months to get back to me. I should have realized then that there would be issues to come but I figured I'd give them the benefit of the doubt. Maybe they were always busy with weddings and my wedding wasn't until the end of the year so I wasn't high priority. Well, when I tried to schedule my hair and makeup trial, Melissa agreed to set it up and then never got back to me. I had to email her twice to get it scheduled 2 months after I originally reached out. Before my hair trial, I want to note that I went to my personal curly hair specialist to set my curls the day before the hair trial to make the stylist life easier. Once I got to my hair trial, the woman doing my hair told me I would be the 2nd curly hair person she ever styled. The first being someone this year who has looser curls than me. During my trial I had to teach the stylist how to curl my hair and was told that on my wedding day I would need to provide my own hair products and assist her in styling my hair. I didn't think it made sense that I would be paying someone $155 to use my products and have me also styling my hair. However, I still paid the lady and even gave a tip since I could tell she tried. I then went to my makeup appointment. The first thing the makeup artist asked me was if I was Brazilian. She said she's usually good at guessing these things and assumed I was Brazilian because I had tan skin and curly hair 🙃. I assured her I was not but again was polite and even paid her a tip as well. After sitting with my hair/makeup for a while (see picture below), I decided to reach out to the hair stylist and my wedding coordinator to say that I would be more comfortable going with a curly hair specialist that was recommended to me by my own personal stylist. Both agreed and were kind about it and I thought everything was okay. I could have shown pictures or made a big fuss but I tried to make everything easy. Then, Melissa reached out to me and said that if I was no longer getting my hair styled by their stylist, I would need to provide five people for hair. She then sent me a contract (that I had asked for a year ago). Obviously, I was not okay with this so I reached out to my wedding coordinator who talked to Melissa and we all agreed to go with the original agreed upon number of four people.I don't think I should have had to pay her for four if they weren't able to provide what they said they could but still, to keep peace, I said I would provide four but I did not sign the contract. Fast-forward to the week of my wedding.The makeup artist called me and asked me to tell her how many people she would be styling.*See screenshots for the rest of the review....
