Funny story time. I've worked in live audio production in one form or another for over 15 years, but still didn't understand how busy wedding season is for DJs. One night I'm sitting in the back stage lounge at Ball Park Village while working... for a band (Queens Blvd), furiously looking for a DJ for my wedding that is coming closer and closer to the date. At this point I've had conversations with about 7 different DJs that either where not available or just didn't have the level of professionalism that I was looking for. Most seemed to just be a guy that can play an iPod, lol. As I'm working on finding a DJ on my phone, Todd Thomas magically walks in the room and sets down a bag. I look up and just quipped I guess you're on after the band. I look back at my phone to continue and then boom, the light bulb goes off in my head! I run out explain to Todd what happened, had a laugh, and then it was clear the level of professionalism and enthusiasm he and his company Porta Party DJs has. I went on to look into his company and was impressed by the level of detail they have. Called him the next day, he told me about his DJ John Winkler and we got to work. Between the user friendly DJ portal they have, and the in person work and support by John, not only did they meet their reputation of outstanding work, but far surpassed it!!! So at this point I'm blown away even before the big day. Oh boy is the big day hectic, so much is going on, but never a worry about the DJ. I arrive at the venue (Lemp's Loft) and John comes outside to discuss our grand entrance, makes a very smart recommendation to allow a little more time for guests to get situated. We go in at just the right time, and nail the grand entrance! It's clear that the party is going to have a lot of energy as John is so well polished on the mic. Never once did things not work out perfect at the reception. Re-read that. I'm talking perfection! Song selection and flow are a true art form that they get and understand. Even my best man was dancing and I've never witnessed him dance in the 20 years I've known him. I can go on to say more but I'll just end with a huge thank you to John Winkler and Todd Thomas. Porta Party DJs are the best!
