Portage Point Inn and Marina

eremony 5/5 We mostly worked with Jamil for planning, he was excellent to work with. We steadily knocked out all the details over 11 months of planning, and he responded promptly throughout. We chose to do pizza and salads from the pub on site for the rehearsal, and these were excellent in variety and quality! The outdoor ceremony site was perfect, though it is an extra fee keep in mind. We got good reviews from our guests for the green deck for apps/cocktail hour. The ballroom for the reception was beautiful as well, and really did not need much extra decoration as it is very elegant! We had had 165 guests. We felt this was as full as we would have liked. If this room was at capacity we probably would have had guest dinner tables covering the dance floor. We did our first dance upon our entrance so that may not have been possible at capacity. We ended up having to move a few back after the dancing began, but we planned on this and had the folks we felt would do more dancing in those tables. With the Lahey's pub right there on site they do require you to use them for alcohol, and we had excellent service all night. We did choose the bee and wine option, and they have liquor options too. We also were able to have a family member bring a boat up to the docks and take us on a golden hour cruise. We had a unique dessert with ice cream we brought, and they accommodated us with letting us use extra freezer space from Friday to Sunday for storage. Overall we have nothing but praise for the wedding experience and the Portage Point Team! Lodgings/Grounds With the variety of room options right on site, it was awesome for so many guests to only have to be in one location all weekend long. When we booked it was a 2 night requirement, which may be a turn off for some. Between the wedding party and family/friends we had nearly half our guests at the resort Friday and Saturday night which was awesome. Room rates are pretty good as well, especially considering you have a kitchen in many of them and can save on eating out. For bigger ones it came out to about $60 a night per person or less. The architecture is beautiful, the water is very close, and the hot tub is very large, our whole wedding party and significant others fit easily. They also started serving breakfast at the cafe which was nice for our guests, as other restaurants are not very close. The lodgings are the only reason this is not overall a 5 star review. The suite we rented and a few other guests' were not as clean as we hoped. All towels/bedding/pillows were good as expected, however vacuuming may have been skipped or not a priority in some rooms as some of the carpet was clearly not vacuumed. Also some windows were missing blinds/or broken blinds. We did not find anything "gross" or highly concerning, but expected a bit better cleanliness with how elegant everything else was. Overall this would not stop us from choosing Portage Point again! Summing up, if you want a one-location wedding venue that can handle everything from rehearsal dinner to reception, with an elegant ballroom, historic architecture, and lasting memories, Portage point nestled between Portage lake and Lake Michigan is your place!

Portage Point. He is the most easy going, flexible, and genuinely kind person you could hope to work with when it comes to your wedding day. Planning a wedding in a pandemic was no easy task, but Jamil made it SO much easier. He was so accommodating, and he quickly resolved ANY issue, no matter how big or small. The venue itself is absolutely gorgeous, the ballroom is so beautiful that you don’t even need much decor and you can’t beat the views of Portage Lake from the deck. It truly is a hidden gem and has got such a special place in our hearts, we can’t wait to come back and visit!

front ceremony, guests could not stop talking about it! To start, Jamil helped us every step of the way in coordinating a perfect ceremony. He was extremely accommodating for any and all strange requests and was always so pleasant and kind to work with. I recommend renting out the bar for an extra fee, which is what we did to avoid having other guests in the bar area as well. The bartenders were SO nice and friendly and helpful, I could not have been happier with the service provided. The dance floor was great, and when the staff realized that people were done eating and we could use a bit more room on the dance floor, quickly broke down some tables in order to do so. Overall I cannot say enough about this venue and my experience. It was the best day ever!

the BEST one EVER. The location is tucked up in a great little town in between Portage Lake and Lake Michigan (not too shabby). The actual Inn is being updated, but it keeps its charm from the early to mid 1900s (think Dirty Dancing). The accommodations offer condos and cabins each unique to their owner and make everyone's stay so relaxed. The bar and reception hall are already SO charming that few decorations were needed to enchant the evening. And now the people!! When I tell you that everyone there became my (and my family and friends) best friends over the year of planning, I'm not exaggerating! They were always ready and willing to accept and answer all our questions and were especially accommodating the week/weekend of the wedding. It really helped me to be surrounded by such "chill" people and it made the whole wedding experience so much better! This short paragraph doesn't really do this place justice, but if you have even the slightest interest in a lakeside wedding, well, I would choose Portage Point Inn today, tomorrow and always.
