me celebration and I hired Powell Entertainment on a strong recommendation from a very well known local business owner of a large entertainment complex in Pensacola's historic "quarter." I paid in full for Powell's services in March for a mid September wedding and was promised extras "gratis" for the early payment. It was the only reason I did so. Due to my strong connection with his colleague, Matt promised me HE would do our wedding himself. Not only did he not come for the wedding, the person he sent arrived 2 hours late! The party was saved by the wedding planner's quick solution and my son's phone in his pocket, from which he played the music he and I compiled for the after party Playlist over the venue's speaker system via bluetooth. Save yourself a lot of money and have friends play what you want from their phones! The working DJ didn't even play the songs I said i had to have!
When we discussed this with Matt, he first agreed to refund part of the payment, having missed 30% of the party. Then he lied to my new husband about what he had agreed to. When the check arrived, it wasn't even half of the amount he originally agreed to, and contained a letter stating we could only cash it if we didn't write a review anywhere or tell my friend who recommended him or he would take legal action. That's called blackmail. (On top of all this, we were charged for the "extras' that were supposed to be included because I paid in full up front. No amount of money is worth my silence and not warning consumers. As I said before,.... keep looking for a PROFESSIONAL DJ. Save yourself a lot of trouble.

However, there were a couple of missteps worth noting. The wrong song was played for the mother-son dance, which was disappointing, and despite us ordering a larger dance floor, they initially brought the wrong size. Our coordinator had to step in and call them back to fix it.
We appreciated the energy and effort during the event, but these details were important to us, so we hope they’ll be more attentive in the future.

l was the biggest part in making that happen and he killed it! He knew what music to play throughout the night and kept everything going so well. I had around 200 people at my wedding and EVERYONE besides about 5-10 people total were on the dance floor after dinner. He was so nice and flexible with the day of changes and it was truly everything I had in mind. Highly recommend them!!!

find a DJ that was professional enough to earn our trust. I trusted Matt immediately. His knowledge with the equipment/technology as well as getting on board with us for what we wanted. He appreciated our problems with 90's music and played it to our hearts content. He read the crowd and kept us on that dance floor literally all night that I forgot to eat! Overall, he is a very eclectic DJ willing to fit your style with professionalism.
Pros:
- Let us customize our entire playlist. This may not seem like a big deal but we met with a lot of DJs who were insistent upon adding songs to the mix that we did not want. ...
We got a lot of compliments on our playlist because we picked songs that we, and our guests, would like.
- Lighting options. The basic package that we got involves a lighting option. I was worried that since it was included it would be very basic or not that impressive but our venue looked AMAZING and the lighting made all of the difference. PE offers a huge selection of options in that area which is also cool.
Cons:
- Sometimes we had trouble understanding him. I was glad that Matt didn't have an annoying DJ voice but sometimes when he made announcements they were not entirely clear. I'm not sure if this was him personally or his equipment but it is definitely a concern if you are really relying on those cues.
- Sort of expensive. We decided that the price was worth it for us because the lighting was included but PE definitely does not have the cheapest packages.
I would recommend Powell Entertainment to anyone who could afford their services. They were easy to work with and made us feel comfortable and happy with what we were getting.
