We hired Pure Lighting, owned by William for our wedding in May 2025, and the experience was nothing short of extremely disappointing. We spent nearly $10,000 on lighting that comp...
letely failed during our reception.
From the start, William was not easy to work with. His pricing was thousands of dollars higher than other lighting vendors in the Myrtle Beach area, but we trusted his professional expertise since we were new to the wedding process.
William pushed us to pay in full months before the wedding and sold us on expensive pinspot lighting — later we learned these are rarely used in modern weddings. When we adjusted our scope well before the deadline stated in our agreement, he refused to explain where that money was reallocated and did not issue any refund, even though no pinspots were provided. In fact when we asked our planner to inquire about where the money would be reallocated, his response to her was "I don't have to explain my pricing structure to you"
On the day of our wedding, none of the chandeliers or bistro lights under the tent worked. The entire setup was powered through a single cord, which melted due to overload and caused total lighting failure. After consulting with another lighting professional, we learned that the setup was incorrectly installed and unsafe — it should have been distributed across multiple cords and circuits, with dimmers in place to regulate wattage. If not for the band’s stage lights and the photographers flash - our outdoor tented wedding would have been completely dark.
Instead of taking responsibility, William repeatedly tried to blame us, claiming we purchased the wrong bulbs. We confirmed multiple times through Amazon and the chandelier manufacturers that the bulbs were well within the stated wattage limits. His insistence on shifting blame was unprofessional and felt manipulative — it was gaslighting, plain and simple.
To make matters worse, his own café lights inside the tent also failed, which had nothing to do with our chandeliers. After the wedding, William initially agreed to issue a partial refund but then completely ghosted us — no replies to emails, texts, or even our certified demand letter. I cannot recommend William with Pure Lighting and I hope sharing our terrible experience that hugely impacted our wedding helps others avoid this issue.
