On October 8 we hosted our wedding reception at the Quad City Botanic Gardens. My husband and I live in Colorado now, and we wanted to keep an element of Colorado as a part of our wedding planning. That’s why we chose to host our reception at the QCBC – it’s a beautiful slice of nature that feels secluded and very unlike the rest of the industrial portion of Rock Island surrounding it. It felt like an oasis, a special find, and a beautiful space. It was also very unique because many of our guests had never been there before.
We were able to reserve the whole venue – indoor sun garden, outdoor gardens, children’s garden, indoor conference room and outdoor permanent tent for a fraction of what other venues were charging. Having the indoor conference room on location was extremely helpful – in case of bad weather that day we could have easily transitioned the reception inside with no hiccups. Thankfully, we didn’t have to use it, but it offered peace of mind all the same. We utilized the outdoor permanent tent which allowed us to create our own vision for our wedding day – it’s like working with a blank canvas and it’s yours to build a dream upon. To top it off, the QCBC is a non-profit so you know your money is doing good by giving back to the local community.
We worked with Kari for 20 months planning the wedding, and she was so warm, welcome and helpful throughout it all. She was so easy to work with – accepting and enthusiastic about our special requests, and very helpful and informational when certain logistical aspects couldn’t be accommodated. She is a problem solver and a sounding board and she’s supportive while being kind.
I highly recommend booking the QCBC for your event – it’s guaranteed to create a lasting memory.
We were searching for a venue to have both our ceremony and reception events. The QCBC served both events well. Staff was very helpful and their preferred caterer was spectacular!
We booked the venue a year ahead. There was a lot of turn over in their staff. I was contacted the day before the wedding asking if we were planning to have our rehearsal there. Really wish I had known about that sooner. I was told it was in my contract, had I been more observant. The day of the wedding, while driving over for all girls photos- my photographer called me to say there was an outdoor wedding taking place! I was baffled! When I called the venue, that I was only 4 blocks from- I was informed that we only had rental of the inside, after 5 pm. So much for using the grounds for photography. Either way, I would've been appreciative had they told me another wedding was taking place outdoors. I could have arranged for my photography to be elsewhere. We did what we could, both parties were very respectful. Both of us brides ended up doing a photo together for kicks! Our day was nothing short of magical, irregardless!
The botanical was such a beautiful place to hold our wedding! We held both our ceremony and reception there. The problem was that our ceremony was at 6 pm on Saturday but they also scheduled other weddings at 2 pm on Saturday and on Friday night. This meant that they were not flexible with rehearsal hours (ours ended up working out fine) and we couldn't start pictures until 4 pm because of the other wedding. We got lucky in that the other bride on Saturday wasn't using the dressing room, otherwise we wouldn't have had access to that either. The staff was very nice and helpful, but it did take a while for them to respond to emails and it was hard to get an appointment to stop by unless it was Mon-Thurs, which was hard for me since I lived out of town. We also had to pay $2.50 per chair to have them placed out on the lawn. I understand that it is time consuming and physical to haul the chairs out there, but the bride before me had her ceremony in the same spot and so the staff didn't have to move any chairs for my ceremony (i.e. they got paid for those chairs for nothing). Overall it was a good experience, just keep in mind those considerations if you want to have an earlier wedding!
The botanical center has everything to offer. Inside banquet hall, multiple gardens, permanent event canopy. It has many options for large and small weddings. If you rent it out after hours, the whole place is yours. They have wedding chairs and linens available. They have great staff and great relationships with other vendors. It is beautiful and offers other options for guests. We loved it!
The gardens were beautiful and it gave guests something to do while we took pictures.;Don't use Bridges catering. We had some issues with one of their bar tenders and they refused to do anything about it.
