Little Hidden Gym in the Heart of Shepherdstown
Holds ceremonies and receptions
At Rumsey Tavern, we believe weddings should feel personal, relaxed, and unforgettable—not rushed through a cookie-cutter venue.
Nestled in historic Shepherdstown, West Virginia, our property offers a unique blend of rustic elegance and modern comfort. Exchange vows outdoors surrounded by beautifully landscaped grounds, celebrate with cocktails under the open sky, and continue the evening with exceptional food, handcrafted drinks, and a reception that feels more like an incredible gathering of family and friends than a formal event.
What truly sets us apart is flexibility. We work with each couple to create an event that reflects their vision, whether you’re planning an intimate ceremony, a micro wedding, rehearsal dinner, bridal shower, engagement party, or a larger celebration. From customized menus prepared by our experienced culinary team to thoughtful event planning and personalized service, every detail is designed around your day—not a predetermined package.
Our venue features beautiful outdoor spaces, a welcoming tavern atmosphere, ample parking, and multiple areas that can be tailored for ceremonies, receptions, dancing, and memorable photo opportunities. As evening falls, guests can gather around the fire pit, enjoy the surrounding scenery, and celebrate long after the ceremony ends.
We’re passionate about hospitality and believe every guest should leave talking about more than just the wedding—they should remember the experience.
Whether you’re envisioning timeless elegance, rustic charm, or something uniquely your own, Rumsey Tavern provides a warm, inviting setting where unforgettable memories are made.
Your love story is one of a kind. Your wedding should be too.

We really enjoyed our visit to Rumsey Tavern. It is located in the old hotel, which is being converted to apartments....a little odd entering and walking down a long hall. Once inside its bright, clean and spacious. Service is great, nice menu ...
options, good portion sizes. I didnt love the crabcakes but they were decent. My husband had the primerib which was cooked nicely.
We will stop in again

I received a coupon in the mail for a free appetizer with an entree purchase. Camden our waitress was warm friendly ensured we read the fine print on the coupon to prevent any surprises later. She was a great server shared some of the history o...
f the place answered all our questions very attentive.
The place was clean had a quiet atmosphere and good menu. We had the chicken nachos for the appetizer, that could have been a meal by itself, the cheese sauce seemed to be homemade. My wife ordered the Chesapeake chicken with baked potato and crispy brussels sprouts; I got the shrimp Po’boy and upgraded to onion rings. The chicken was a nice portion, and the Po’boy was a legit 12-inch sandwich. My wife only sampled a little of the chick and sprouts and I had two bites of the sandwich and some of the onion rings because we filled up on the nachos. I know it is in a converted hotel but worth the trip I consider it hidden reward and worth the trip, I live in Maryland and will going back for another meal.

We had the bacon deviled eggs as a starter and hamburgers with baked potatoes as the sides.
The restaurant is nicely chilled with AC.

d - always appreciated.
Yes, the tavern is hidden off the main road, but it's worth looking for it.

Food took forever, apparently the ticket got lost or something, but others seemed to get their food fast and once they figured it out, we got our food quick. Main food tasted ok, but nothing too special. The carrot cake - i wouldn't call carr...
ot... more like a pineapple applesauce cake with a smattering of carrots. It was kind of playdoh like. Beignets were raw, and not beignets- more like weird dough balls. Waiter was nice and did a decent job and obviously felt bad for the problems. It's back a long hall in the back of a hotel, so it's a little odd to get to.
