About this vendor
I'm Joanna, the calligrapher of Order She Wrote! Very glad you popped by. I offer my skills for all the usual suspects: envelope addressing, place cards, I'll write names on just about anything and everything, and I can provide my handwriting (or, 'spot calligraphy') to an outside design house of your choice, should you already have found your stationer! If you have arrived here earlier in the process, I am an invitation designer as well, and together with my graphic designer and illustrator, we create menus, stationery and other paper goods for your wedding, special events...or just because. (If you are interested in invitation design, inquire within as spots are limited!)
When your day is drawing near, I am here to make your reception and party items even more special with handlettered place cards, escort cards, signage, maps, giftables, to engrave, and more!
I have a great love for the art of handlettering, and modern calligraphy. (Steady hands help, I suppose.) I am based out of NYC, but have roots in Washington DC, and Martha's Vineyard! No matter where you dwell, I can create something fun and beautiful for you.
Custom illustration is available as well, with my incredible in house artist, Tiffany Willey.
My styles vary from casual and chic, to folksy and whimsical, to elegant and flourished. I can create custom inks, and using a myriad of writing implements, work in harmony with your envisioned aesthetic to create a little more magic for your special day!

e, and exceeded all of our expectations! Every step of the way, from the first introductory email to final communications the week leading up to our wedding, Joanna met us with such kindness and enthusiasm in perfecting every last detail, making it a completely seamless process from start to finish. Along with the help of Ana for some of the design elements, Joanna created stunning one of a kind masterpieces for all of our personalized details, including our invitation suite, menus, escort display, and signature drink signage. Joanna and Ana took our visions, elevated and perfected them, and proceeded to deliver the print work of our dreams!!! We really felt like the magic of Martha's Vineyard and our individual personalities shown through in everything they created! The little details of a wedding often go unnoticed, but not with Joanna's work! We are still getting compliments from our guests weeks later on how special every last detail was all thanks to Joanna! 10/10 recommend !!

hired Order She Wrote in early 2020 to design the envelopes for my wedding invitations. Unfortunately, in the midst of designing the envelopes, the COVID pandemic hit and we had to postpone our wedding. Joanna was extremely accommodating and flexible throughout the entire process. A silver lining during our postponement was that I gained another year to dream up projects to work with Joanna on! By the time our wedding finally came around in September 2021, she had not only designed our wedding invitation envelopes, but had also designed our seating chart (on recycled glass jugs!), escort cards, signage, bridesmaid gifts (utilizing her embroidery skills!) and so much more. Everything came together beautifully and we have received a ton of compliments - especially on our wedding invitations! Now that the wedding is over, I am thinking of non-wedding related projects to start just so I can continue working with Joanna :)

ns with her final products. I reached out to OSW within a MONTH of my wedding date and she somehow managed to complete all of my requests on time - which included custom escort cards (agate slices) for each of my 150 guests, a bar sign, a welcome sign, a ceremony sign AND a table assignment sign. Each and every item we received from her was not only beautiful, but clearly made by a person who truly loves what she does. Her creativity and talent is truly unmatched. Joanna listened to all of my ideas with interest, was always enthusiastic and excited to be a part of my big day, and was a complete joy to work with. We asked her to go crazy and do what she thought would look best on our signage and we could not have been happier with the final product. We even hung up our welcome sign in our home post wedding because we truly love it so much! Thank you Joanna - we loved working with you and are so excited to have another excuse to need your services again... :) If you are looking for a creative genius with incredible attention to detail, beautiful final products, amazing talent and an overall complete joy to work with - look no further. You will not be sorry!

op here and hire Joanna. In retrospect, hiring Joanna was absolutely one of my best wedding choices. Joanna worked seamlessly with my invitation designer/letterpress company in order to put together the most fabulous invitation suite, which was in no small part thanks to Joanna’s calligraphy (used both throughout the letterpressed suite and full envelope addressing). When the pre-wedding tasks ramped up, Joanna proved to be upbeat and a breath of fresh air. Mind you, she had just gotten engaged herself when she excitedly took on the task of hand-lettering 250+ French Bulldog shaped escort cards and a variety of other tasks, and completed each quickly. Joanna was also consistently communicative, flexible, and her work product was flawless. I cannot recommend Order She Wrote highly enough!

hearsal dinner and wedding! First of all, her work is gorgeous, as you might have seen if you've checked out her pages. But beyond that, she was the perfect vendor to work with during a hectic stressful time -- so easy to communicate with, calm, cool, competent, FAST! (efficient), and helpful in coming up with ideas and working with me sometimes at the last minute to make adjustments until everything was perfect. Her work added beautiful details & polish to our wedding & her efficiency & flexibility took a lot of the pressure off me! She is someone who really cares about what she is doing and cares about helping you make everything perfect.

fter searching for mirror calligraphy vendors (such a specific quest!) in the New York City area. She immediately offered to help and is only a few subway stops away from my apartment! We discussed exactly what wording/calligraphy style I wanted, the dimensions of my mirror, and logistics for dropping it off and picking it up. Within a short time frame, Joanna made an absolutely gorgeous sign with removable paint! Guests could not get over the beauty of the sign, which was arranged with flowers amidst a beautiful Central Park backdrop. Joanna is incredibly talented, very responsive, and a fast/efficient worker. The mirror was perfect, and I can’t thank her enough for her (beautiful!) talent! Thank you, Joanna! You are truly amazing!

ustry we work with many vendors in each field, and when it comes to calligraphy and invitation designers, Joanna is one of the BEST. She has a wide range of what she can do, and is always willing to try things that the client has in mind. Her quick response time to not only the client but to us as a vendor helps to keep nerves down and get the product in our clients hands. As a vendor it is so refreshing to work with someone who makes sure to keep us as the planner in the loop, knowing we need to note the decisions that are being made. I hope Joanna continues to do this for years to come because she is so creative and talented, and our clients and team love working with her!
