My husband and I had our wedding at the Savery at the beginning of the month (December). We truly do not have enough good things to say about the whole entire experience. Christie is professional and so easy to work with. She's very knowledgeable and would answer any little question we had the past year with great detail. Not only is the venue absolutely beautiful and elegant, but the staff were so so great! We were SO impressed with how quickly food/dessert was served and how utterly kind the wait staff specifically were. We've had people nonstop tell us it was the best wedding they've ever been to. There truly isn't a thing we'd change about the whole experience and if I could rate more than 5 stars, we would in a heartbeat. From the bottom of our hearts, thank you so much Renaissance Savery! It was the best day of our lives and it ran so perfectly because of the hardwork and communication they devoted to us.
We worked with the Renaissance for our hotel room block. Ross was AWESOME! He did a fantastic job of helping me to keep tabs on our count of rooms to ensure we were filling up the block/had enough rooms for guests. He helped my family to get connecting rooms and worked his magic to get a late check-out for my parents, who were hosting a brunch the morning after our wedding. He worked with me to coordinate our shuttle to and from the reception, and created a sign for the check-in desk to ensure guests were aware. Ross was helpful and responsive, making our planning easy. We had 60+ rooms at the Renaissance and our guests loved staying here!
Overall, I was pleased with this hotel block arrangement. The location is great - walking distance from all restaurants, coffee shops, and bars. And super close to the summer farmers market held on saturday morning. This was great as my guests were able to wander around a fun outdoor market the day of the wedding. There were some kinks with check-in that I hope the staff are able to work out... a few guests were not able to check in at the time the hotel said they should be able to. There was another wedding block at the hotel so I understand it was a busy weekend...but hopefully this is remedied.
We had a wonderful weekend at The Savery. The staff treated us well. The location on the Skywalk made it easy for us to plan an event in December. There are a lot of perks thrown in (especially if you sign on early). And, I still feel like a VIP when I go in there.
The food was great. The ceremony, dinner and dance locations were just what we needed. You can have the room until 2 a.m., eliminating having to kick your guests out at 11 or pay extra for having a longer celebration. The bridal suite is perfect.
We had one small issue when the wedding coordinator we were working with left for another job and no one proactively notified us, so I was stuck getting bounce-back emails while I was out of town for work three weeks before the wedding. It could have been handled better, but the new wedding coordinator jumped right in and made the weekend a success. In the end, everything turned out great.
We were so happy we had our ceremony and reception at The Savery. We very highly recommend it.
The hotel was very easy to work with from start to finish. From blocking the rooms to our actual stay was easy and accomadating. Our suite was perfect for getting ready and the hotel staff was friendly and inviting.
We didn't use the Savery for our ceremony or reception, but did use them to block hotel rooms for our guests. The Savery provides a complimentary airport shuttle and shuttle service to anywhere in a reasonable radius from downtown (either three or six miles - I can't remember which). Nearly all of our guests came from out of town, so this was a HUGE selling point for us.
We did run into two small snags. The first was that two of our guests (out of roughly 40 who booked rooms) had trouble making their reservations. This happened at the same time that we had a problem getting a complete list of names of those guests who had booked rooms in our block. Though it was never stated in this way, it sounded like there were a small number of staff members who were simply confused about the way to handle reservations and blocking. The trick for us turned out to be working directly through the department that handled reserving room blocks rather than the front desk. Ross was amazing and completely knowledgable (my fiance actually said at one point that Ross might be the most helpful person on the planet).
The other snag was that the shuttle generally stops running at 10:30 pm. Although a trip from anywhere downtown or in the East Village would be a minimal cab fare, we had worked out with the hotel that additional shuttles would be run for our guests between 11:30 pm and midnight. Some of our guests reported that there was some resistance to this when they called, although the shuttle definitely did end up making the trip for our guests.
Despite these small snags, we've received nearly as many compliments on the hotel as we have on the rest of our wedding. People really loved the rooms, which were clean and spacious. Our guests also really loved that the hotel was connected to Des Moines' skywalk system, so if you are hit with any type of inclement weather (we had some fairly chilly days), your guests can still shop, eat, etc. without having to go outside.
We also got a BEAUTIFUL comp room on the night of our wedding. It was enormous, with a beautiful room, and the hotel allowed us to check in early, which really helped with the getting-ready process.
Also worth mentioning is that the staff is extremely personable. Numerous people told us that they got a ton of help with finding local places to eat, drink, sightsee, get a manicure, etc. Perhaps most adorable was that although we saw at least two other wedding parties coming and going from the Savery the weekend of our wedding, a good number of the staff remembered our names. When we went to check out, we were greeted by name with a chorus of congratulations. It was kind of amazing.
We had our reception and a room block at the Renaissance and they were wonderful throughout the entire process. We worked with Tara Platt and she was professional, knowledgeable and accommodating with even the most minute or last minute details. We stayed in the penthouse the night before the wedding and were able to use it for the Beauty of All Faces ladies to make all us ladies beautiful! The ONLY thing that detracts is that we had a minor issue with our bar closing at the end of the night. Other than that, the hotel and staff were fantastic
My wedding reception at The Savery was perfect in every way. Guests loved the location, great room rate, and the planner was very easy to work with and kept great track of all my last minute changes. I highly recommend this hotel!
We worked with Tara and she was AWESOME! Took care of all the details and helped to keep things on track. Highly recommended!
We had our wedding at the Savery Hotel in the fall of 2010. The hotel provides you a certified wedding planner that helps you with each step of planning the wedding reception. They have several banquet rooms to chose from and have good food and friendly staff. It is reasonably priced in comparison to some places we considered and the final product was great!
