When we first moved to Brattleboro back in 2023, the Retreat Farm was one of the first places we visited. Not only is the mission of nonprofit phenomenal, the organization hosts events that bring community together and folks closer to nature. When deciding on our wedding venue a year later, the Retreat Farm was one of our top choices. At the time, the North Barn was being renovated and had not yet been finished, but even then we saw the vision. I also think it is important to mention, as a queer couple, we received nothing but respect throughout the entire process. From the beginning, everyone we worked with from signing the contracts to planning the actual wedding, we received enthusiasm for our less than traditional wedding (Gothic Victorian/Halloween themed). Retreat Farm from the beginning was exceptional! I cannot reiterate enough how kind everyone was to work with. Working with Samantha as the venue coordinator was a breeze. She was accommodating, fun, and well organized. She answered every question, no matter how little. Planning a wedding is no easy task, but every step of the way, Samantha and the Retreat Farm staff were there. Franklin and the staff day of were also all so accommodating and there to help address any last minute hiccup! Everyone was also so fun and inviting to all of our guests dressed up in their costumes. We had an outdoor ceremony on Outlook Meadow and I know the work that would've gone into hauling the arbor, chairs, and sound system up that hill, but they did what they could to make our day PERFECT! We had our reception in the North Barn and even with spending time in the space before, I could not have imagined how perfect it was with all of our decor! The wood beams, tables, and lights balanced perfectly with our elegant Victorian and silly Halloween decor! No matter what style wedding you're looking for, the Retreat Farm will help you make it happen in the most beautiful spaces!

We held our wedding at Retreat Farm and it was absolutely perfect! From start to finish, this venue exceeded our expectations in every way.
Our weekend began with a field day celebration the day before the wedding. Farmhouse Square was perfect for this, and the staff went above and beyond to help us organize food stations and arrange picnic tables. The staff made themselves available for the entire day and were friendly to our guests which helped set the tone for the entire weekend.
Working with Samantha, the venue coordinator, made the planning process so much easier. She was incredibly communicative and patiently answered about a million questions from us. We were one of their Retreat Farm’s first weddings, so there were a few minor administrative hiccups along the way, but I have complete confidence these will be smoothed out for future couples. Samantha’s responsiveness and helpfulness were invaluable.
On our wedding day, rain was in the forecast which was very stressful for us leading up to the ceremony which was slated to be held outdoors. We prepared to hold the ceremony inside the barn, which would have been beautiful in its own right, but then, the rain ended up clearing at the last second. Thankfully, the incredible staff had already set up the chairs and arch and managed to move everything back outside within half an hour (literally wiping down every single chair as fast as they could). We ended up with the most breathtaking outdoor ceremony as the clouds parted and the sun literally shone down on us. It was pure magic, and the staff's quick work made it possible. Additionally, the venue's beautiful outdoor spaces provided awesome backdrops for photos so we’re glad we were able to take advantage of them.
One of the most unique and memorable aspects of Retreat Farm is the farm animals. We surprised our guests with a surprise donkey ring bearer (that the barn manager, Felipe, took the time to practice walking the aisle with), and during cocktail hour, the open barn allowed guests to interact closely with all the animals. This was hands-down one of the highlights that our guests are still talking about—the pictures that we saw everyone take were priceless.
Every single person who works at Retreat Farm was exceptionally kind and professional. From the bartenders who handled the bar service beautifully (and even accommodated our requests for specific drinks on the menu) to the staff directing guests and everyone in between—the team made us feel so well taken care of.
It's worth noting that this is more of a DIY venue where you bring your own decorations and coordinate most vendors. We loved this because it allowed us to truly make the wedding our own and put our personal stamp on every detail but recognize that this may not be for everyone. For reference, we had about 140 guests and held our wedding in early September.
We highly recommend Retreat Farm for couples looking for a unique, beautiful, and flexible venue with character, charm, and the most wonderful staff (and also animals!)

This was the ideal venue for our perfect May VT wedding. Sam and the rest of the team were great to work with from start to finish. The property and the beautiful new barn created a picturesque backdrop. We even worked with them to have a goat serve as the ring barer! Can't recommend Retreat Farm strongly enough.

My wife and I were fortunate enough to get married at the Retreat Farm in the fall of 2019. We couldn’t have asked for a better place to celebrate our special day. Lindsay and the whole Retreat Farm staff were incredible to work with and did so much to make the experience enjoyable.
Our wedding ended up having 175 people, and there was more than enough space to accommodate everyone at the ceremony and reception. We had the ceremony at the Overlook Meadow, and then had the reception in the farmhouse square. Sadly, the North Barn was not ready in time for our wedding, but we were able to go in and take some beautiful photos after the ceremony. Both sites were perfect for what we were looking for. The Overlook Meadow was tucked away and secluded, providing an intimate space to exchange our vows. And then the farmhouse square was an open space where our guests could spread out and enjoy a host of activities provided by the venue. We rented a tent, but we also made use of the event tent as well for additional space.
As far as amenities go, we couldn’t ask for a place that offered more! Before the event, our bridal party was able to utilize the farmhouse to prepare and keep our belongings. To help our guests get to the Overlook Meadow, we had tractor rides which weren’t only practical, but was a unique experience for our guests. After the ceremony, we got to feed Carlos the bull apple cider donuts, which is a can’t miss activity!
At the ceremony itself, the Retreat Farm had something for every one of our guests. Our wedding had a good contingent of children, and for there, there were play areas, baby goats to take photos of, and a petting barn. We also had the classroom at our disposal to use a nursey for the really little ones. For everyone else, we had maple creemees, a cider press, a plethora of yard games, and a fire pit with s’mores. Fun fact, if you’re a fan of NPR’s Wait, Wait, Don’t Tell Me, the beautiful bar we had for our ceremony was built by Tom Bodett!
Truly, I could go on about how wonderful that day was, and what an enormous part the Retreat Farm in making our day so special and unforgettable. Any couple looking for a unique wedding experience should definitely give this place a visit.
