ou're on a virtual planning call or standing next to each other during your wedding ceremony. Our guests all LOVED her and raved about the ceremony (which says a lot since it was also what was separating them for an open bar & food!) It even left a mark on the kids... a few weeks after the wedding our nieces asked us about how cooking with the salt (from the ceremony) had been going. We were so surprised they had paid enough attention to remember that, but it just highlights how engaging and memorable Erika is. It also wasn't just the wedding day itself that she excelled at, but perhaps just as importantly, the weeks leading up to it as well. I met Erika about 3 months ago via a zoom call and we instantly connected. We found Rev. Erika on The Knot because we were looking for an experienced officiant that was used to working with LGBTQ+ couples and we could not have found a better person. She worked very closely with us for those 3 months to ensure our ceremony was as perfect as it could be. We didn't know what to expect, as this is both our only time getting married, but she made the process fun and had us involved in the entire planning out of the ceremony. She had some really fun ideas for our ceremony. We wanted to pay homage to our loved ones who have passed, and to those who have made gay marriage legal for us. Rev. Erika helped us plan a ring warming part of our ceremony where our wedding bands were passed around the guests and each guest was allowed to hold the rings and put their best wishes, prayers, and intentions into the wedding bands. This was so special. Now my husband and I constantly fist bump our rings together because it feels like our rings have super powers :). We also worked with Erika to plan a hand fasting portion of the ceremony where she told our love story through questions each of us answered to her in secret laying cords over our hands as she told the story and she literally "tied the knot" around our hands into the shape of an infinity sign which we plan to frame in a shadow box for our future home. Just to brag on her a little bit more, Rob and I both feel like our wedding ceremony was the best one we have ever attended - which is great because it was our own. We are not the only ones who felt this way. Over the course of our reception night almost every single one of our guests told us our Rev. Erika was the best wedding officiant they have ever heard give a ceremony. We feel so lucky to have met her and to be able to now call her our friend. We can not recommend her enough. If you are an LGBTQ+ person or an ally she is the best person you could ever work with to plan out your ceremony. When it came closer to game day, the rehearsal couldn’t have gone any better. Push any worries about chaotic gatherings where it’s super stressful and you leave needing to lie down somewhere quiet. Our rehearsal was genuinely the most organized and calm one I (the bride) have ever been to. This is 100% because of how Erika clearly communicated her expectations for everyone in attendance right at the very beginning so we all knew our roles and what was needed from us in the moment. Honestly, the rehearsal was full of joy and laughter rather than stressful and overwhelming. Day of the wedding it was raining so we had to use a secondary location for the ceremony. All of the work we did with Erika leading up to this point made it so we didn’t really even have to think about the ceremony, how it would go, or if everyone knew their roles. Erika made sure we had point people for our rings and our handfasting ribbons who she checked in with before the ceremony. We ended up having some technical issues with the microphone and speakers we provided but you wouldn’t have known that by the way Erika navigated through that unexpected challenge. As soon as the ceremony started and Erika began with the welcome and calling to hold space we immediately felt all of the work we had done with Erika come to bountiful fruition and the ceremony was beyond what we could have dreamed. We loved that she took the time to get to know us as individuals as well as a couple to craft two sections during the ceremony telling the story of our engagement as well as our story as a partnership. This was an element that literally every single one of our guests said made them feel like they had been included in our story in such a beautiful and meaningful way. It felt even more important as this was the first time a lot of our most important people were meeting one another so by including these elements Erika, with skill and grace, immediately made everyone feel like they had access to our dynamic in a meaningful way. The pacing of the ceremony was so intentional, allowing for moments of reflection as well as community joy all facilitated by Erika. We utterly adore her and hold her very closely to our hearts.
