What is documentary style? It's the question I get when I tell people that is my style. The short answer is that I don't pose most of my photos. I know a wedding day is filled with raw emotion and interactions with family and friends. Little things can turn into a special moment when emotion just comes pouring out. It's a wonderful day just packed with those moments. It's my job to capture those things in beautiful photographs. And, so I tell couples to ignore I'm even with them. Don't look at the camera, just be yourself. In time, they get used to that. In fact, many people tell me they don't like being photographed. Why? Because they don't know what to do, such as how to pose. I get it. I don't ask them to pose and that burden is immediately lifted from them. They can stop thinking about photography and let me worry about it. It lifts a huge burden from a couple. It allows them to be as real as they can be. Those special moments when a bride puts on her dress. When mom and/or dad see their daughter in her dress. The first time the groom sees his bride. And so many more. These are the moments we dream of. These are the moments we want to cherish. And these are the moments Rick Saul Photography will capture in photos.
