The Inside Scoop
FROM THE KNOT EDITORS
The First Look
Situated in Lisle, Illinois, just a little east of Chicago, River Bend Golf Club partners with Wheatstack eatery and tap, both of which embrace the friendly local farming history by placing an emphasis on family and community. The course enjoys premiere status in the area and offers lush landscaping features that include ample greenery and 58 acres of manicured wetlands. Able to accommodate private indoor and outdoor events, all kinds of wedding celebrations have found their home at the venue. Ceremonies, receptions, showers and anniversaries are all accommodated at this picturesque golf club and dining locale.
The Clubhouse. For an indoor banquet with up to 140 guests, the course’s clubhouse is an inviting and contemporary wedding space. With floor-to-ceiling windows with sweeping views of the grounds, as well as a rustic slate fireplace, the room provides an intimate and sophisticated ambience. There’s a welcoming bar in the room, as well. The dining room doors open up onto an outdoor terrace, which can be used for mingling, extra seating or even a small ceremony.
Tented Banquet. Anywhere from 100 to 225 guests can gather on the groomed lawns beneath a tent for a wedding reception at the course. Features of the outdoor tent include a catering tent, vaulted ceilings, the option to have tent walls with windows and frosted globe lighting.
What You Should Know
For events taking place indoors at the clubhouse, the golf club takes care of catering. For this, they have a banquet menu with many different meal options, such as a sit-down dinner or buffet. Entrees in the meal packages include dishes like lemon chicken, pot roast, tilapia and sausage. There are quite a few appetizers to choose from, which require a per-person fee. These snacks include chicken dumplings, coconut shrimp and mini cucumber sandwiches.
Linens are not included in the rental of the clubhouse, but they are available for a fee (which is charged per every 50 guests). The linens are a classic white color. White napkins are likewise available for an additional fee, which is a per-guest charge.
A bar package is available for the indoor event and each one is priced per person. There’s an additional bartender fee, as well as a per-person and per-hour charge for every extra hour of bar service. There are two, three and four-hour bar packages available. Alternatively, a tab bar is an option.
For events taking place outside in the tent, an external catering service is available and the club has a few preferred caterers to choose from. The tent must also be rented. Included are tables and linens (up to 40 colors to choose from), bars, a dance floor and all chairs. There’s also a restroom trailer and all table settings included. Services not included are photography, baking, floral and entertainment.
A few of the extra perks available include:
- Option to have an unlimited sparkling wine bar with blushing bride cocktails
- Shuttle service to three nearby hotels for overnight guests
- Welcome bags at select local hotels for wedding guests staying the night
- Option to have a photo booth in tent
- Complimentary non-alcoholic beverages in packages - lemonade, iced tea, colas
- Choice of two wines served with dinner when choosing the bar package

Fantastic Venue for a personalized experienceReviewed on 11/04/2015
We had our wedding at Wheatstack and couldn't have been happier with the outcome. In the beginning, we were worried about the space, but much to our surprise it fit 140 people comfortably. Pro's 1. The staff - Todd is awesome and will live up to every promise he makes. He's a straight shooter and incredibly reliable. 2. The food - Almost everyone in our group of friends has gotten married this year (14 total weddings.) Everybody always says the food at our wedding was the best. I may be biased, but I agree 3. The Gathering area's - Every wedding has a dance floor, but I feel like in most situations it's the only source of entertainment. Wheatstack has a gorgeous large balcony where they put a pop-up bar that entertained guests who didn't want to dance. People were smoking cigars, enjoying the fresh air and some kids even playing just below the balcony in the grass. They also have a semi circle bar right next to where we set up Dancing/the DJ. Many people gathered around that bar and were able to enjoy the ridiculousness that occurs on the dance floor without having to be on it. Lastly, the main room still had tables, deserts, etc. So some of the elderly guest who wanted to get away from the commotion could hang out in this room unbothered. 4. The Price - You won't find a better bang for the buck. 5. The Flexibility - My wife has a creative mind and wanted to personalize the space. She made a lot of arts and crafts and had some pretty specific instructions for the Wheatstack staff. They were willing to implement everything to the brides specifications without any resistance. The Con's 1. For anything more than 100 people you'll need to split up into two rooms. For us, this wasn't an issue and was somewhat preferred, but I know many people may not like this. Having said that, the two rooms are separated by an open doorway so it still feels incredibly inclusive. Not only that, but we rented out the whole facility and that made it feel all inclusive. And as I stated earlier, the different rooms helped cater to every personality at our wedding and helped assure that everyone had a good time. 2. The open bar package doesn't include shots. I didn't know this ahead of time, but in fairness I never asked. Having said that, shots were free for the bride and I all night, but the guests had to pay. All in all, we couldn't have been happier with the venue. They took care of us, our guests and everyone had a great time. The bride and I didn't want a "me to" wedding where it was in a huge banquet hall and this was the perfect alternative.
