I took advantage of off-season pricing to stay at this higher-end hotel. Service was always friendly and attentive, my room was spotless, and the breakfast was a truly special way to start the day.
First impressions were made by the gleaming l...
obby: tastefully appointed with lots of comfortable seating and an inviting bar area. Checking in I went up to my room to find it already lit up with a welcome message playing on the TV- a nice touch seldom seen at mid-tier hotels. All materials and furnishings were custom-grade and clean down to the mattresses.
It being late, I wanted to settle in and relax. Unfortunately I had some rambunctious neighbors, and the walls seemed as if they would never stop rattling. I went to the lobby and requested a room change, and it was happily granted.
I noticed there was a sort of espresso pod machine in my room, but I wanted some hot tea before bed. I went to the lobby and asked the receptionist where I could get some, and she immediately went to the bar and prepared me a quality tisane, compliments of the house. Just before bed I realized I had forgotten toothpaste. Back down to the lobby and the receptionist was only too pleased to give me a little tooth care kit with toothpaste, brush, and floss pick.
In the morning I opened the shades to behold a lovely view of the Ashtabula River and Ashtabula Lift Bridge. Rooms with a view typically cost extra here, but I think it's worth it see something inspiring first thing. Other rooms face the parking lot, which is bleak by comparison. Breakfast was served on the top floor with more sweeping views of the river and Lake Erie outlet. There were REAL scrambled eggs (not the homogenous "egg cake" typically found at other hotels) and fresh fruit including sliced strawberries and blackberries. The coffee was top notch.
I only stayed one night as I was on my way to Cincinnati, but I did take a stroll around the area. Nearby West 5th is full of charming cafes and boutiques, and there is a large Goodwill next door if you like thrifting. I was also able to walk along the river and through the marinas a bit - there don't appear to be any restrictions to pedestrians here.
This hotel is typically a little too pricey for me to consider on a business trip, but they do justify that extra cost by being a cut above the rest. Going forward it will be my first choice when traveling through the area off-season.

We had a wonderful stay at the Riverbend Hotel! The room was exceptionally clean, the bed was super comfortable, and the view was great. The Valentine’s Day carnation was such a thoughtful touch and made our stay feel extra special.
It was also...
very quiet and conveniently located close to several great establishments. We would definitely stay here again!

Wonderful stay at Riverbend Hotel!
We had an excellent experience at the Riverbend Hotel in downtown Ashtabula. Jodi at the front desk was phenomenal — friendly, professional, and went above and beyond to make our stay memorable. She upgraded ...
us to a beautiful double queen river view room, which had a great view and was spotless and comfortable.
Jodi also took the time to provide a list of local wineries and suggested some great nearby restaurants, which really helped us make the most of our visit. Her personal touch and genuine hospitality set the tone for the entire stay.
We also had the pleasure of visiting The Lift Bar, which was open the evening we checked in on Sunday before their winter hours began (closed Mondays and Tuesdays). Patricia, the bartender, was fantastic — warm, welcoming, and made us feel right at home. She mixed up some great drinks and added to the overall charm of the hotel experience.
If you’re visiting Ashtabula, especially for the Bridge Street area or a wine country getaway, I’d highly recommend staying at the Riverbend Hotel — and hope you get to meet both Jodi at check-in and Patricia at The Lift Bar!

The hotel is clean and in a good location. The Riverview is of the Lift Bridge and it's nice to have as a view. The bed and pillows are comfortable. The Menu for the rooftop restaurant is small- there are no Gluten Free options which feels like...
a large oversight. The bartender Patty was wonderful and did what she could to help me find some things to eat. Shout out to Patty. The room didn't have things that are typically standard. There are no shower caps (big deal for long haired people) and the cleaning service didn't come once during my stay. I left the room at 9am and had no notice of do not disturb on the door. The room had a pull out couch but when I called to ask for extra bedding or pillows my only reply was come get stuff it's SELF serve. I'm not sure where I was to go or what that meant so my sister just slept on the couch with a tiny throw blanket. Overall, despite I would stay again and recommend due to location and comfort and cleanliness.

My first time visiting Lift Bar was on a Thursday, and I had such a great experience. The bartender, Destiny, was incredibly sweet, kind, and professional. She has amazing manners and a great personality. I was actually having a really bad day,...
and somehow she had me smiling the entire time I was there. She truly made me forget about my problems and made the atmosphere feel welcoming and comfortable. When I returned the following week, unfortunately my experience was very different. Our bartender was Patty, and the customer service we received was disappointing. Her attitude toward me and my wife felt unwelcoming, and the interaction left us feeling uncomfortable. It was a stark contrast to our first visit.I truly hope management takes customer service seriously because it makes all the difference. I would love to know which days Destiny typically works, as she made us feel at home and we would gladly return during her shift.
