I had my reception at RCC in the summer of 2012. It has a very sophisticated, old elegance to the entire place. My cocktail hour was held in a ballroom with vaulted ceilings and ha...rd wood floor, two fireplaces, and a baby grand piano available to be played upon request. They also bring a portable bar into the room for the convenience of your guest. There is also a separate bar room overlooking the Rock river with seating for older guests. Cocktail server will take orders and bring them to guests so they don't need to even go to the bar. You can have a seated or buffet style dinner, with numerous choices. I chose to have a seated dinner, and the service was prompt, our food was hot, and our meat was nearly perfect, which doesn't happen very often at a wedding. Our guests raved about the quality of the food. They recently hired a new chef and the food is creative enough to be unique and interesting, but classic enough to meet your pickier guests needs. We chose to have a salad course followed by a steak and chicken combo or a vegetarian dish. We were able to do both course for under $40 per person. It was an amazing deal. Also available to use is an outdoor deck overlooking the Rock river. While I didn't spend much time out there, my guests really enjoyed it. It was great if someone wanted a quieter place to talk or have a drink and enjoy the summer night. All my food requests were met in cocktail hour and for dinner (they even ordered oysters especially for me and provided a Chicago style hot dog bar for late night food!). They also allowed me to bring in other catered food, as I brought in cannoli to accompany my dessert. They did not charge a cake cutting fee either. They also have several options for bar service, from completely cash, partial open, or fully open. You can chose to have your drinks tallied or pay by the hour. If you chose to have a partially open bar, but your guests want something different, they are able to purchase it with cash. No credit cards are accepted, however.
As far as space, the dining room does not have vaulted ceilings, which I worried would make the room feel cramped with my 235 guests, but in fact, it made the room feel intimate where all the guest felt close to the bridal party. The long side of the room is full of picture windows that look out over the river and allow natural light to enter the room. RCC provided all of the tables, china, glass wear, etc. and they do provide chairs and linens as well, but I wasn't crazy about them so I rented my own. They provided an excellent recommendation for rentals as well.
Finally, my husband really wanted to play the excellent private golf course belonging to the country club and they were able to accommodate us with 4 tee times, but they do charge a fee for that in most cases.
My only complaint about this venue is that they are not always the best will communicating with the couple about details prior to the month before. In the time leading up to the wedding, the club experienced some turnover, but did not let us know. In most cases this would not be a big deal except that arrangements we made with our first event planner did not get passed on to the next, which caused some added stress. However, everything that RCC was responsible for the night of the wedding was flawless and we are so pleased with our experience. Highly recommended!
