The Roger Sherman Inn is a landmark wedding venue located in New Canaan, CT. The inn’s New England charm makes it a picturesque destination for weddings of all sizes and styles. It features several banquet rooms and gardens, all of which serve as a charming foundation for any wedding celebration.
The late 18th-century house was originally the home of Reverend Justus Mitchell and his wife, Martha. Martha was the niece of Roger Sherman, who served as a delegate at the First Continental Congress. The property was bought in the second half of the 19th century and underwent extensive renovations. It briefly became a school and inn in 1925, but following the closure of the school, the inn remained successfully in business. In 1960, it fell into the hands of Roger Sherman Ross, a descendant of the Founding Father, and was renamed after him. The 250-year-old property is now owned by Joseph and Nes Jaffre, who are committed to showcasing the inn’s history and treating guests to world-class cuisine.
Featuring white siding and dark shutters, the Roger Sherman Inn exudes the quintessential New England vibe. The surrounding gardens are neatly landscaped and serve as an enchanting setting for photos. There are several private dining rooms available for weddings, all featuring elements of the building’s history while maintaining their own flair. Furnishings and decor are elegant and classic with a slight nod to colonial style. The inn’s guestrooms and suites can be rented for the occasion to get ready or relax after the festivities.
Each of the venue’s event areas has its own allure and capacity. The largest space, the Garden Room, can accommodate 100 seated guests and has floor-to-ceiling windows to let in ample natural light. Several dining rooms can be opened up to seat more guests if required. The Blue Room seats 12, perfect for rehearsal dinners and farewell brunches. Couples can buy-out all event spaces for weddings of up to 175 seated guests. Wedding party suites are located in the main house and can serve as dressing rooms or overnight accommodations. Out of town guests may choose to stay in one of the inn’s 15 luxurious guestrooms.

We loved our wedding reception at the Roger Sherman Inn! We got married at a beautiful Episcopal Church nearby and were within walking distance of the RSI, which made it a really convenient reception location. The buy-out package worked well for hosting 150 guests for an indoor/outdoor cocktail hour, indoor sit down dinner reception, and dancing and an afterparty at the bar! Tara was great to work with to coordinate and for the area the venue was pretty affordable. We also stayed at the RSI, as did many of our guests, which worked well and was really convenient. The food was really delicious, and we appreciated having the RSI coordinate most of the details (cake, linens, alcohol, food), leaving us to sort out music, flowers, photography, and hair and makeup. One recommendation would be to rent two rooms for hair and makeup rather than one so that there is enough room to have bridesmaids have both done. We only planned to use one room for both and ended up doing makeup in a multipurpose room the inn let us use––it worked well but might have been easier with a second room at the inn!

My best friend was recently married at Roger Sherman Inn. The rest of the wedding party and I used the venue for multiple wedding events leading up to the day, and the entire experience was hit or miss.
It started with the venue coordinate, Sue, who was both a very kind but disorganized person. We had outlined specifics for brunches, showers and more, and yet she'd show up and be clueless to the things we'd gone over. For example, we had asked for things to be set up outdoors, they would be indoors, or we'd ask for no pork, and pork would be offered as a dining selection, or we'd book rooms only to show up and have our bookings, booked over.
Then we when came to Nes with these issues she shrugged us off. At one point she said she didn't care and that "the experience is what it is".
This pattern continued through the whole wedding process. I felt so bad for the couple. They were so hopeful for the wedding venue being a gathering place for all their family, it ended up being more like a nightmare.
My advice, if you go with Roger Sherman make sure you hire a coordinator to work directly with Sue and Nes.

The staff at Roger Sherman - especially Sue - made everything feel easy. They told me "it should feel like your having everyone over to your own home, we just do all the work" and they delivered on that. The space is beautiful, the food was outstanding, and they took care of everything. If you want a warm, easy, lovely venue this is the place for you

I am so thrilled that we got to celebrate our special day at the Roger Sherman Inn. Sue and Pam made sure our wedding was perfect! The venue is breathtakingly beautiful, and is a quintessential New England inn. We were married right outside the Garden Room and enjoyed our cocktail hour outdoors. Our reception was perfect and I didn't have to lift a finger for set-up or clean-up! The staff here is exceptional. They're friendly, attentive and professional.
The Inn hosted our ceremony, reception and after-party. They provided all the food, the liquor, beer and wine and the cake. They accommodated my guests' special dietary needs with no problems and all of the food was delicious! I cannot say enough about how perfect my day was because of the Roger Sherman Inn and its staff. I would recommend this venue to everyone I know who's getting married or having a special celebration.

Perfection! The Roger Sherman Inn brings elegance and warmth to New England. When shopping for a wedding venue I wanted a spot that truly spoke to me with owners and staff who really cared. Wow! Nez and Sue are some wonderful ladies bending over backwards to make your dreams come true. Whatever you want or dream of they can make reality. Their love for the property and their vision is what drew me to this venue. I can’t wait to have my bridal shower here As well as my overnight for my 30th birthday. Love you ladies keep up the amazing work! Please go check this venue out and the food “ to die for”

Our wedding at the Roger Sherman Inn was perfect. The Inn has always been a special place, but they've recently completed a major renovation and the results are absolutely beautiful. We had 85 guests, with our ceremony on the patio, cocktail hour on the porch, and dinner in the main dining room. From the beginning, Nes had a beautiful vision for the party, and Sue made sure every detail was perfect. The food was incredible and plentiful, the rooms are lovely, and getting ready in the beautiful bridal suite was a treat. Every detail was handled tastefully and thoughtfully, and we felt so at home in this elegant space. We couldn't recommend RSI more. Any couple looking for a special place to host a wedding in Fairfield County should consider it.

Roger Sherman was the most phenomenal venue. The staff is well trained and all the details came together so easily. This venue makes it easy to not have a wedding planner because they do everything for you. It was the perfect place for our big day, I highly recommend.

Booked "morning after" brunch for about 45 people here.
Food was good - with planning a choice of appetizer and entree, and shared dessert, and the price was not exhorbitant. However, the service on the day of the event was lacking.
We were seated in a private room - all in one contiguous table (as we asked for), but we only had 2 waiters. The kitchen was slow as molasses (and they did not have anyone else in the house that day). We were under a timeline as we had a guided tour already booked, so I ended up directing the waitstaff to get food for those who were on the earliest tour right away, and my guests had to practically 'inhale' their food. The banquet manager ended up helping to serve, and that helped a little, but it was too late.
It is a nice place, and they have decent food, but watch out for the snotty and slow service.

The Roger Sherman Inn was amazing! The staff were great and everything was perfect. We had our ceremony outside on the patio, cocktail hour and reception all at the same place and I wouldn't have had it any other way. I received many comments about how nice the venue looked and how great everything came together!
