Marie Brawn and her team just provided us with a wedding feast that so many guests have commented on that you would think food was the only thing going on that day! It was an amazing array of hors d'oeuvres and entrees, presented--and served--beautifully. It is several days later, and we are still getting texts commenting on how extraordinary the food was. The event planner, Jessica Neibauer, also managed to coordinate Root Cellar staff with all the other vendors' staff so well that everyone appeared to be supporting and complementing each other. I recommend them wholeheartedly!!

Root Cellar Catering was one of our first wedding decisions we made and it was the best we could have found! I wish we could give them a 6th star. From day 1, Jessica and the team made us feel totally free to have whatever kind of vision we wanted for our dining experience and they delivered in every way day of. Jessica is absolutely amazing and answered my many, many questions and was extremely supportive of us making sure our vision was executed as we saw it, but also helped us figure out the best and most affordable way to do things. We chose Root Cellar mostly because they seemed very down to earth and felt like family. They wanted to hear what we had to say about the food menu rather than push us on some pre-arranged generic menu (like all the other caterers we met with did). The plated tacos were delicious and our guests loved the family style sides and toppings! Also the bartending staff (and the whole staff) were INCREDIBLE and our guests are still raving to us about how nice, attentive and funny they all were (and how great the food was!) 10/10 would recommend them, they made our big day everything we could ask for and more!

We had tray-passed appetizers and food stations by Root Cellar and all were fantastic! Our guests raved about the poke station and short rib station, but my personal favorite may have been the mac and cheese bar. The mains and sides were all great, and Root Cellar worked with us to customize the options and ingredients we wanted for both apps and the main stations. If I could do it all again, I wouldn't change a thing!

I cannot say enough good things about Root Cellar!! Truly a review is not going to touch on how amazing these people are! Root Cellar was the most exciting part of our wedding! We could not wait for our guests to have their food because it is SO GOOD! It is one thing to have amazing food, but the people who work for and run Root Cellar are some of the best people we have ever met. They made us feel like family from the second we met them. Our wedding guests were primarily coming from New England, so Root Cellar did such an awesome job of incorporating a New England feel with a Southern California flair!! All of our guests were raving about the food the next day! We worked with Jessica primarily and it was like having a wedding planner. She literally took care of everything and with such ease. Any time I felt silly asking a question she made it seem like no big deal. She was absolutely fantastic! If you get lucky enough to work with her your wedding will be the absolute best! I almost didn't want to share the seret of Root Cellar, but these people are just too amazing not to get the credit and props they deserver. Jamie and Marie who own the business could not be nicer! They were both on site the day of our wedding making sure everything was good to go! I work in the event industry and do hundreds of them. Very rarely do you see the owners of a business come on site. That is just the type of people Jamie, Marie and Jessica are. They truly care about the couples they are working with. We felt that from the moment we met them. Root Cellar was the best decision ever! If you want amazing food made by amazing people then theu are your answer! I am still drooling over the food and looking for an excuse to use them again!!

Picking a caterer is one of the biggest decisions you can make for your wedding. We knew we wanted to go with someone higher-end and we tasted with the best caterers in town, ultimately narrowing the choice down to two. We ended up choosing Root Cellar and we couldn’t be happier that we did. You can tell Root Cellar is passionate about what they do, take a lot of pride in the quality of their food, and will work their very hardest to make their clients happy. While very elegant, they are also reasonably priced. We worked closely with their sales coordinator Jessica N. who was the most amazing professional. She was so helpful with the planning of the catering, but also played a huge part in the overall success of the wedding by coordinating extensively with our other vendors (rentals, florist, wedding planner, and venue). She always took the time to answer our many questions, and her “not a problem” attitude to our requests and preferences was music to a stressed-out bride & groom’s ears. Back to the food - it was amazing!!!! It was also gorgeous, and we can’t begin to describe how impressed our guests were with everything. For cocktail hour, we got their famous Market Bar (cheeses, olives, bread, fruit, etc. station), and we also did a seafood station, complete with sushi, crab claws, shrimp w/ cocktail sauce, etc. These stations wowed our guests to the max and set a wonderfully upscale tone for the wedding. We also had tray passed hors d’oeuvres, which were fantastic. Dinner was buffet style with short ribs, chicken, mashed potatoes and veggies - delicious! We had some vegetarian and vegan guests who were in love with the meals brought out especially for them. We also had other guests with various dietary restrictions, and Root Cellar made sure everyone would be taken care of properly. Now, the service – perfection! We loved their servers. They were all friendly and happy, and it felt as if they were excited to be part of our special day. The bartenders were also fantastic and handled the workload of a full bar with ease, including our two complicated signature drinks. All the staff was organized and prepared for everything we had asked of them. It was so touching when the owner and head chef Jamie found us before leaving at the end of the night and personally thanked us for our business. A small gesture but meant so much. You can tell this is a company who values their clients and truly wants to do their best for them. We cannot recommend Root Cellar highly enough!!!

Hands down the best decision we made in planning our wedding was hiring Root Cellar to cater. We can't say enough about this incredible husband and wife team who made our wedding everything we could have hoped for and more. Food was in our top two most important things to us, as my husband and I are both foodies who appreciate quality ingredients and farm-to-table sourcing. Not only does Root Cellar pride themselves on this type of cooking, but they place their heart and soul into their business, and it 100% shows in every step of the process when working with them. We knew immediately upon meeting them and tasting their food that they had to cater our wedding, and we feel so lucky to have built a relationship with Jamie and Marie from that day on. Their attention to detail, their warmth and love for their clients, and their pride yet humbleness in their work makes them stand out in the sea of caterers in the marketplace. The food: everything was beyond outstanding! Our family style meal was plentiful, SO delicious and presented so beautifully. It was also scaled to perfection; it tasted just as great as our tasting (if not better,) when served to our 130 guests. It was indeed a memorable meal, as countless guests raved about the food that night, and weeks after. The punchline? This is NOT "wedding food"! This is one of the highest quality meals we've had in the San Diego area. Marie was also effortless to work with. She dotted our i's and crossed our t's when it came to event organization, rentals and working closely with our other vendors. She was a crucial asset to the team and made recommendations and improvements to areas of planning that were even outside of the catering world. Root Cellar delivered an event at a level way above anything we could have imagined at the wedding. The best part is.. my husband and I got to clean our plates at the wedding!!! We highly recommend Root Cellar to any couple looking for the highest quality food, and a vendor team who feels more like family at the end of the day.

I highly recommend Root Cellar Catering. For our wedding last year, our biggest priority was good food (within a reasonable budget). After contacting a few other caterers that a) would not get back to me, b) offered menus that were not what we wanted, or c) would not let us taste the food we wanted to serve at the wedding, we finally found Root Cellar Catering. Marie was fantastic and easy to work with, she coordinated the table and chair rentals for us (including set-up), and would have helped set up table décor herself if we had not decided to hire a day-of coordinator also. She got us in touch with a great bakery (Elizabethan Desserts) for the cake and dessert, and was fine with us providing our own alcoholic beverages (they set up a bar complete with bartenders). Best of all, their food was amazing and they worked with us to get the menu we wanted. They also ensured that we (bride and groom) were able to eat food the day of the wedding (we only missed out on 1 of 10 menu items). Did I mention the food was great? I recommend them to anyone looking for a caterer.
