Working with Emily was a dream! She captured exactly what we wanted in our ceremony. It was funny, sweet, and genuine. Our religious family didn't even notice the exclusion of religious elements. The humor was so us. We Rick rolled our guests and it was glorious. The whole process prior to the ceremony was designed to bring us together. I loved the vow writing workshop. Emily is the best and we cannot recommend more.

Emily was the perfect choice for our special day! From the moment we met with her, we knew we made the right choice! The first meeting with Emily she spent dedicated time getting to know us as both individuals and a couple. It truly helped to make our ceremony feel personal and individualized. The vow writing workshop was so helpful in making our dedications to one another come to life on the page! My fiancé and I attended the Vow Writing Workshop this weekend and it was truly wonderful, fostering a warm and supportive environment where we could reminisce about our special moments and rediscover the reasons why we fell in love. The writing prompts provided great guidance, giving us a clearer idea of what to expect on our wedding day and igniting our excitement to write our vows. Hearing from other couples in the class added to overall loving atmosphere, making it a great way to spend an evening. The number one compliment we've received on our wedding is "your vows were beautiful!" My fiance and I took Emily's vow writing class and I'm so glad we did. During the chaos of wedding planning, it was such a peaceful time to reflect on the WHY behind everything we were working toward. When it came time to put our vows together we had a helpful template with lots of stories to pull from after the workshop. We also purchased the Officiating 101 course for my uncle who was our officiant and he found it to be very helpful. Can't recommend Emily enough! Rooted & Wild was recommended by our planner, but we were honestly a little hesitant. Our wedding budget had been adding up quickly and we considered asking a family/friend to officiate. But we are SO glad that we were able to work with Emily, 200% worth the investment! Timewise, the ceremony is such a small piece of the wedding day, but I feel like working with Emily helped make it a focal point in the best way. She helped us make everything very intentional, and spent so much time putting together a ceremony that was representative of us. We didn't go into the planning process with a super clear idea of what we wanted the ceremony to entail, so Emily brainstormed with us and offered suggestions so we could piece together the perfect flow. There was no pressure to do things a certain way, and we are both so happy with how it all turned out. Emily was easy to work with throughout and she helped make things fun and stress-free. We really can’t say enough great things about Emily. She went above and beyond to make our ceremony perfect. Her ability to write a personalized love story for us was so impressive, we really felt like she had known us for our entire relationship. Weddings are supposed to be about the union of two people coming together and all the love that surrounds them through friends and family, celebrating their journey together, but it's easy to lose yourself in the mires of wedding planning (this color for this, that frame for that, that appetizer and that drink, etc.). It's also easy to get trapped in planning hell and start losing what it's all about...but Emily is the type of person that won't let that happen to you. She understands the importance of planning but also understands all the importance that goes into make the wedding ceremony about the most important thing, the two individuals. At least, that's what she made us feel. She helped us with our journey in vow writing and truly helped memorialize our lives together in her beautiful introduction/celebration of us. She's someone that feeds off of your excitement, your love, and your energy and the more you give her, the more she gives you back 10x fold. We truly enjoyed working with her and by far she was our favorite person to work with. She responds quick, communicates well, and is truly there for you in your moment. We'll never forgets the words that she spoke that day. Still brings us to joyous tears.

I can’t even begin to praise or thank Emily enough for such a phenomenal service and ceremony. Even before we hired her, it was immediately clear how thoughtful, accommodating, patient, and well-organized she is. With her helpful questionnaires and vow writing class, my fiancé and I felt so at ease and connected with her in the development of our ceremony & vows. Her warm personality is clear and present in her storytelling. The actual ceremony was perfectly magical, and it fit our vibe to a T. We had absolutely no anxiety on the day-of; she was ready to go at sunrise (and was completely forgiving when we were 15 min late), and we were even sad to see her go once it was over. We came into this partnership as clients, but left with a special kinship. 10/10 will always recommend!!!

Emily was amazing wedding celebrant/officiant. We knew we wanted someone to make the ceremony meaningful, but not religious. She walked us through the process and made it very easy. She wrote the script from scratch after talking to us about what we wanted. We had small edits or fixes that we wanted, but the 1st draft was great! We had to reschedule once due to COVID and she was really understanding about it. Our guests were really impressed with her was well and several family members asked us if she was a personal friend. Also, we really recommend taking her vow writing class. We were both able to write meaningful vows and she followed up via Google docs to make sure they were in good shape before the big day.

My wife and I took a vow writing workshop from Emily ahead of our wedding. We both found it useful, and honestly, felt it would be a nice way for long-term couples (married or not) to spend time together reconnecting over their love for one another even if they weren't preparing for a wedding. This workshop gave me plenty of inspiration as well as concrete examples that really helped me formulate my vows. Emily let us have our vows reviewed to ensure they matched in length and overall tone (so they wouldn't feel one-sided). We also hired her later for some professional editing/fine-tuning that came much later after the initial workshop. I would recommend Emily for help with your vows to anyone who asked!

Emily made our wedding ceremony the most magical moments of our lives. We cannot express enough how thoughtful, loving, and sentimental she crafted our ceremony to be. She added in so many personal touches (like our tradition of Rock Paper Scissors to decide our vow order) to make the ceremony special to us and our love. She spoke beautifully about our lives and told our love story in the most eloquent way- and made sure to slip in some laughs when needed! Every single guest shed happy tears and even our vendors told us they did, too! Since getting on a video call with her, we knew she was the person we wanted to marry us- my now wife pulled herself off camera to mouth “book her now!!” as we were talking to her. She has a calming and gentle presence that translates through all interactions- which is definitely appreciated during the wedding planning process! She is such a genuine & kind soul and we enjoyed working with her on a personal level as well- she makes you feel like family from the start! Her vow class & questionnaire was incredibly helpful to get our thoughts out on the page & focus on the promises we wanted to make to each other. We agreed that our vows wouldn’t have been nearly as good without her help, revisions, & friendly reminders to keep us on track. She helped us stay organized and accommodated all of our needs. Our guests couldn’t say enough, we can’t say enough, & we guarantee you won’t be able to say enough! If we had to do it all over again, we would choose Emily every time. We can say with the utmost confidence that working with her will be the best decision you make for your wedding. Nothing but love for her 💖

To honor my partner's Celtic heritage, Emily did a handfasting ritual for us as well! My in-laws absolutely adored her and wouldn't stop talking about how much they enjoyed the ceremony and her company. My fiance and I are from Atlanta, and we just eloped at Mt. Rainier national park. During the planning process, we were a little worried about getting married across the country and having a stranger officiate us, because we really wanted our ceremony to be special. And then, we found Emily! After our initial interview with Emily, we immediately knew she was the one! She took her time to thoroughly get to know us and our love story, and wow-what a magical and intimate ceremony she helped to create! Words cannot describe the appreciation I have for Emily. From the beginning I felt as though she was perfect for us, even over Zoom. She was thorough in asking us what we wanted from our ceremony, the vibe we were going for, and any details we wanted to speak about. We weren't sure how the virtual format would work for such a personal activity, but we left our workshop feeling inspired, excited and confident about our ability to write vows that were true to us. Emily of Rooted and Wild is an absolute dream. We worked with her on a small wedding with family that was supposed to take place in March of 2020. When we had to postpone our ceremony due to the shutdown, she was so sweet to move our ceremony out a year and was incredibly supportive and flexible during a very difficult time (despite already having crafted the most amazing ceremony and it being just days before our wedding). When March 2021 rolled around and we had cut down our wedding from 40 to just 4 due to high risk family members not able to travel, she was a dream to work with at tailoring a ceremony that incorporated family and friends who couldn't be there with us in person. She gave us so many suggestions to make our intimate wedding feel larger than life and make us and our families feel so special. She truly couldn't have captured our love any better and helped us create the most beautiful, intimate, and joyful ceremony. My husband and I had been together for 11 years before we got married and the ceremony she crafted seemed to perfectly capture every moment of our time together and reminded us of moments that we had not thought about in ages. Our wedding was on the Washington coast and in typical Olympic National Park in March fashion it was windy and chilly on the coast but Emily was nothing but smiley, bubbly, and full of joy and excitement for us. She was also unfazed by our little furry family member who borked through nearly the entire ceremony. If we ever do a vow renewal in the future she will be the first person we reach out to! We are so thankful to have worked with her and we recommend her to absolutely anyone looking to create a ceremony which captures every part of your love and personalities. Emily's Vow Writing workshop was fun and easy! Before the workshop I felt dread about writing my vows but after completing the workshop I felt excited. Emily's sense of humor, flexible and creative thinking and kind nature make her workshops feel really special. She offers participants opportunities to engage in different ways and because she is such an excellent listener it feels really meaningful to participate. I would definitely do this again but I don't need to because the first workshop was so effective!

In early July 2020, my then-fiancé and I reached out to Emily about officiating a small, outdoor elopement ceremony for August or September near Hood River. She wasn't the only officiant we considered for the job but she stood out. Her warmth, good humor, thoughtful questions, and experience won us over. Despite having such a short time frame, Emily immediately got to work. She met with us over Zoom guide us through her process and gave us a questionnaire to fill out about us, our values, the history of our relationship, etc. It was actually really fun to fill out! Emily took our answers and crafted a beautiful and completely original ceremony tailored exactly to our wants. With a few minor tweaks, our ceremony was ready for showtime. On September 2, Emily (fully masked) met us along the Columbia River Gorge at sunset to officiate (from six feet away) our tiny outdoor ceremony. It was windy, gorgeous, and without a doubt one of the most beautiful experiences of my life. I fully credit Emily for being such a thoughtful and capable guide, not to mention in a year like 2020. Cannot recommend her officiant serves highly enough. Also looking forward to her upcoming mindfulness practice in December!

Okay, so let’s start from the beginning. We have had our wedding planned for almost 2 YEARS(in Kauai). Everything set and almost paid for. This year Covid hit, so we checked on our flights daily and venue, everything seemed to be fine and as I checked in religiously with the venue and our airlines they said everything looks fine. Well, about a month ago we received a Call from our flight and venue saying they had cancelled our reservation and flights. So our entire wedding was back at SQUARE 1. So the first thing Chris and I did was search for our officiant and so many people couldn’t and wouldn’t do a last minute elopement, luckily someone referred me to Emily the owner of (rootedandwildpdx) where she literally responded back to me within MINUTES. With positive energy and the will to get it done no matter the obstacles that we may have to face. She spent hours on hours to make sure our wedding was perfect from the beginning to the end. She taught us how to write our vows and helped us make sure the vibe of the wedding was a bit spooky as we wanted. She helped us find our awesome people to help us capture our moments as well. I can’t really say I planned my last minute wedding when honestly it was all Emily and she made sure that it was EXACTLY as we wanted. She did not leave any detail out. Also to mention my family ABSOLUTELY loved Emily and my family do not like much people but they loved her energy and who she is as a person. Not only did she become our officiant but also became a friend. We are VERY thankful for everything she has done for us! I will now refer everyone and anyone I know to Rootedandwildpdx wether they are local or not cause Emily is AMAZING! I would pick to have Emily as our officiant than have a wedding in Kauai any day. We are so glad we decided to work with Emily for our adventure elopement!! I don't know what we would have done without her. She helped us plan an elopement from a different state (during a time of A LOT of uncertainties) and she never skipped a beat! My husband and I had no idea where to start in terms of planning our intimate elopement ceremony but Emily was always there to help via zoom call and was incredibly responsive over E-mail as well! I know the day wouldn't have been what it was without her knowledge, help, attention to detail, and positive spirit!

After changing our wedding plans three times, we decided to do a micro wedding with a custom ceremony to avoid the nuanced limitations of a religious ceremony. There are many rituals that require particular timing and extended family members involved in a Hindu wedding that would not be possible with a COVID-19 wedding. We began our search for officiants in Portland, only to find people who had a "rinse and repeat" approach that felt impersonal and a bit old-school. However, when we interviewed Emily, we realized she was different. She took a more modern and customized approach, starting with a lengthy questionnaire that made my parents and me dig in and think carefully about our love for each other. She teased out important themes from getting to know us and then beautifully weaved our questionnaire responses and spiritual beliefs into a custom ceremony that told our unique story (she even supported our story with beautiful quotes and poems along the way.) The ceremony truly made our micro wedding come together with only 3 weeks of planning! Throughout the process, Emily was also communicative and organized, providing us space to think but also timelines to ensure she could come prepared for our big day. We loved having Emily and are so glad we chose her for a 2020 wedding we'll never forget! Thank you for making our day so special!

We contacted Emily of Rooted & Wild in late fall 2019 to officiate our wedding ceremony in spring 2020. We were impressed with her professionalism and cheery spirit, and knew from the first informational meeting that she'd be a great fit. She was clear and detailed, and collected information from us to use to craft a custom ceremony. When our original wedding date had to be moved out due to the pandemic, Emily was supportive and flexible as we determined a new date. When that new date needed to be moved once again, Emily took the time to meet with us virtually a few times to discuss our options and to pivot to a tiny, socially-distanced + virtually-attended elopement ceremony. Working with her was a delight at every step of the way, and a bright spot in what could have been a depressing and stressful shift in wedding plans. The elopement ceremony, based on the ceremony Emily had designed for the full wedding, was beautiful and touching, and went off without a hitch (except, you know, for the intended getting-hitched :-)). We are looking forward to continuing to work with Emily for a vow renewal ceremony (to replace the full wedding + reception) next spring. We highly recommend her for any and all celebratory functions!

What a wonderful experience! My fiancé and I went through a private vow writing workshop + received some ceremony guidance and it was incredibly helpful and inspiring.
