You realize this was a plantation right? A plantation. This is not a place for celebrating when you know the pain death and suffering that went on there. Find a less shameful place to celebrate your happiness and privilege
I absolutely loved having Runnymede as my venue in my March 2021 wedding! It was unfortunately 55 degrees that day, so it was quite chilly for our guests, but our pictures turned out gorgeous! They have a permanent tent on site which was great, we just had to rent tent walls and some heaters due to the chilly temp. There is also a small cottage on the property which was great for me and my bridesmaids to hide out in, but it was kind of small so not everyone could comfortably fit. But I did have a large bridal party! The best part about this venue is when you rent it out, you get it for the entire weekend which was great for rehearsal on Friday and clean up on Saturday. Tiffany was also great to work with! Thanks so much!
My daughter's wedding ended up at Runnymede Plantation after our contracted venue imposed a guest limit of 50 people 5 months before the wedding. How could we have known that it was our lucky day when a cancellation at Runnymede opened up for April 10, 2021? The day was the perfect low 70's---the wind chased away the bugs and died down before the ceremony began at 5:30 pm. The Ashley River was so beautiful at high tide, the sunlight streamed between the branches of the huge live oaks draped with spanish moss creating the most authentic low country wedding we could have ever imagined. Tiffany was so warm and kind and showed the venue to both families on different occasions due to various schedules and locations. She assured us that April 10th would be a gorgeous day and it was totally "unforgettable ."
The best decision I made when planning my wedding was using Runnymede Plantation!! It was absolutely stunning! Tiffany was so great to work with. She was quick to respond to any questions I had, and she was very helpful throughout the planning process. There were several added expenses that came along with using the property that I wasn't expecting. The only thing on site is a tent (which is very large and nice!), but everything else needs to be brought in. There was absolutely no lighting, restrooms, tables/chairs, etc. but Tiffany made great recommendations for everything to help me. I planned everything from Kansas so her guidance was really really helpful! Overall, my wedding was a dream come true and everyone raved about how gorgeous it turned out. I couldn't be happier with having my wedding at Runnymede!!!
Runnymede is such a stunning outdoor venue! The grounds are on beautiful water and surrounded by lush trees. It is as if you are in your own secret forest, secluded, tranquil, perfect for any event. The Sales Director, Tiffany, is always a pleasure to work with. She is hardworking and truly cares about her clients and the integrity of the property. We love working with the team at Runnymede and we are always excited to see how we can enhance the beauty of the grounds.
We had our wedding here in October. The grounds are beautiful! With the huge live oak, the ruins, the river, the tent, there are so many options all in one spot! The new bridal suite is perfect and cozy. One of the biggest pluses to this location is that the tent is a permanent fixture on-site with flooring! It rained a little on our wedding day, and it was not a big deal at all because I didn't have to stress about it.
We absolutely loved getting married at Runnymede. It's natural beauty is astounding, and it provided the perfect backdrop for the night. We had about 200 guests, and we didn't have any issues. There was a slight worry about my grandparents getting around easily, but that wasn't an issue at all.
My guests can't stop talking about how beautiful the property was - we got married on September 1st but and all the breeze and shade made even the Charleston summer heat bearable (and the groom's fam is from Canada, they still loved it!). The lush green grass under the oak trees with all the Spanish moss was straight out of a fairy tale...
I didn't use the tent on property, but it was nice to have for my vendors and as a backup space just in case of rain. I truly wouldn't have done it any differently, I am ecstatic for my pictures to come back because I know they will be just incredible. Thank you Tiffany!!
I had my wedding mid November. I chose to have my ceremony under the older and largest oak tree in the center. I had my cocktail hour over looking the water and my reception in the tent already on site. I had a seated dinner with 135 people. There were no mosquitos on my day, but that is likely due to season and the mosquito service we had spray - I wouldn't go without for a summer wedding!
Pros:
- BEAUTIFUL plantation
- Overlooking the water
- Gorgeous old oak tree in the center
- Multiple oak trees to choose from
- Only 1 wedding per weekend so if you book for Saturday you can use the venue Friday and Sunday as well
- Reasonably priced
- Got to use plantation for bridal portraits and other sessions as well
- Plenty of space for parking
- Already has a very large tent on site with hardwood floors. Could fit a large seated dinner
- The ruins are unique and beautiful
- Very private
Cons:
- Have to use their tent vendor (Synder)
- Have to use their bar vendor (Spike by Synder)
- Have to use their bathroom people (Natures Calling)
- All outdoors (weather issues)
- Nothing other than the tent is included, so the cost of rentals becomes quite high
- There is no structure on the site besides the tent, so there is no area to get ready or hide day of
- 30 mins away from downtown, if your guests are staying there *There is an inn next door at Middleton we didn't find out about until it was too late.
- On the river where potentially people could boat by during your day (didn't happen to me).
- Very small entrance sign so hard to locate
- Doesn't show up on Apple Maps. *MUST USE Google Maps for guests to find.
Summary: If you're looking for a beautiful, Charleston-esk wedding venue that will give you gorgeous photos for life and can afford the rentals and last minute weather add ons, then this is the place for you.
Runnymede truly is a gem. We had many out-of-town guests for the wedding, and wanted a venue that would showcase Charleston at its best. Runnymede did not disappoint--the grounds are beautiful, and there are a number of ceremony spots to pick from if you're having both the ceremony and reception on site (we picked the spot beside the river!) Tiffany was easy to work with and met with us multiple times to view the property. She also provided contacts for vendors who had previously worked events at the site, allowing us to hire quality vendors with experience at the site. The permanent on-site reception tent is large, and we particularly loved the wooden tent floorboards.
The real highlight of Runnymede is that it almost acts as a blank canvas--you are only limited by your imagination. We chose to have simple decorations and flowers to let the natural beauty of the site shine, and it ended up both beautiful and personal to us as a couple.
From the moment I first saw Runnymede, I knew there was nowhere else in Charleston I wanted to get married. I would pick it again in a heartbeat!
Runnymede Plantation provided the perfect backdrop for our reception! It's a hidden gem and I highly recommend anyone looking for an outdoor wedding venue to check out Runnymede. They were AMAZING to work with too!
A beautiful location for an outdoor wedding. Our guests are still raving about the gorgeous location. Many of our guests said "It's like it's straight out of a movie!" The Oak tree was the selling point for us but being right on the river along with the ruins was absolutely a dream! Tim was very helpful! Our dream wedding came true at Runnymede!
