I had a trial bridal hair and makeup appointment at Azure Salon with Melyssa. The hair portion of the appointment went fine, but the issues started with the makeup portion of the trial. For background, I requested a natural makeup look and showed an example photo. I typically wear little makeup and no foundation, so I was looking for a lighter and more natural wedding look. I was faced away from the mirror and was not shown the makeup until it was completely finished. I did not initially like the makeup, but I could not verbalize exactly what was wrong with it as I am unfamiliar with makeup. I did state that I did not like the eyeliner with the fake eyelashes as it looked too dark, and I asked if the eyeliner could be taken off to see the look without it. The stylist responded with “right now? Then I would have to redo the whole eye.” This comment made me uncomfortable and was my first red flag. After the eyeliner was taken off, the makeup looked better but I still was unsure what was wrong with it and why it looked so unnatural in the mirror. After showing a friend who is very familiar with makeup, she informed me that the foundation was too warm for me and the bronzer was excessive, leaving me looking very orange when I am naturally pale. This was the overall issue with the makeup, other than the fake eyelashes which were applied unevenly, making my eyes appear different than each other. The eyelashes were also glued in a way that drug my eyes down which left a very apparent droop, especially after taking only one eyelash line off.
Directly after finishing my makeup, my stylist had me book a follow up appointment and make a deposit for the wedding date hair/makeup. In my gut, I was very unsure about the makeup, but I am an out of state bride and unfortunately do not have the opportunity to trial with someone else in the area prior to my wedding so I paid the deposit in addition to the trial cost. I wish I would have gone with my gut and waited to make the follow up appointment, but I felt like I had no other options in the moment. I did not feel beautiful at all despite just having my hair and makeup professionally done. After sending photos/videos to friends later in the day, I realized that the makeup did make me look very orange and unnatural which was the main issue with it. Since the makeup artist was unable to correctly match my foundation to my skin tone at the visit, I did not feel comfortable continuing with the wedding appointment as I feel it will be done inadequately at that time as well. I called the salon the following day expressing my concerns and asked for a refund on the deposit only and not the service that had been completed, and I was met with a rude response by the salon owner. The owner stated they do not give refunds and that I should be grateful for receiving a service worth $300 plus for less than that cost and that the problem was me, not them. It seemed like the salon was more interested in taking my money than trying to make the customer happy or make the situation right. The owner, Melyssa, was condescending over the phone and condescending during the appointment when asked to correct things. I would NOT recommend Melyssa or her shop to any bride to be.
Prices were great, staff was friendly and caring. I recommend them for sure!
the stylist took my ideas and created a beautiful style that suited me perfectly.
I went in three days before and had a trial run with my hair. I knew exactly what I wanted so it only took like 30 mins. I can't remember the girls name who did it but it started with a "J". The hair looked good at the trial run but then the day of the wedding I went in and when she got done I was stunned! It looked better than good, it was perfect! It literally looked exactly like the picture! I was so happy! I guess she just took a little more time on it the actual wedding day, but it still only took like 45 mins! I also got my makeup done afterwards and I brought in a picture of kind of what I wanted and just told her what I liked and she could not have gotten me any more spot on! I loved my experience at Salon Azure in Maryville and I would definitely do it all over again!
The hair and makeup artists are both creative and professional... maintaining each girl's natural beauty while playing up their best features and the dress
