Charleston has so many great catering companies to choose from but ultimately we selected Salthouse based on their overall food philosophy and menu options. After meeting Jacqueline at our tasting in January, I was confident we had made the right decision. She was so knowledgable and professional but fun and accommodating as well. She welcomed our input and was enthusiastic to incorporate some of our ideas into the food and beverage plan. The chef modified the ravioli for a more seasonal option. The sweet corn and leek ravioli station was a guest favorite and hopefully a new addition to their summertime menu. Serving spiked cherry “slurpees” with the late night munchies as an ode to 7/11 was a big hit and the perfect way to close out the evening. Providing delicious food and drinks, combined with excellent service, is such a huge part of the overall guest experience. Salthouse didn’t just deliver but exceeded our expectations on both in spite of being forced to change locations of the cocktail hour due to an unexpected and intense thunderstorm. Everyone worked so well together to pivot to plan B that most guests didn’t realize that there was an original Plan A. Thank you to Jacqueline and every member of the Salthouse team for playing a role in making Camryn and Austin’s reception so special. The smiles on their faces said it all!

The only thing that we want to mention, is that some people’s plates were taken, unfinished, while they were at the bar or had stepped away for a moment. Other than that our experience was great!

She comes from an industry family, her father is a chef and her mother works for an established hospitality company. Jacqueline grew up in West Ashley and attended School of Arts, while participating in professional theater as a child. She has a very large family and loved being on the water as a kid. She has worked in various restaurants and bars since she was 15 and learned both back and front of house operations. After graduating from The University of South Carolina in 2015 she moved to Prague, Czech Republic for 3 years. During that time, she made travel her passion. She’s traveled to over 40+ countries and continues to travel as much as possible. Jacqueline has been with Salthouse since 2019 and took over as a Sales Manager in October 2021. Jacqueline prides herself in ability to be versatile and determined that all clients never forget their experiences with Salthouse Catering. Jacqueline’s prior experience as an assistant wedding planner helps her anticipate and prepare for the busy world of catering in a popular wedding destination city. Jacqueline’s husband is a local pastry chef in Charleston. In her free time, you can find her at either the beach, a local brewery, or a funky restaurant enjoying time with friends.
- Mark SaharaSales ManagerOriginally from Honolulu, HI and having attended the Georgia Institute of Technology in Atlanta, GA, Mark comes to Salthouse with years of experience in the beverage and events industries. Mark moved to Charleston about 15 years ago working for a well-known global technology company, but an opportunity arose to turn a hobby into a career. That is when his journey into food & beverage began, and he has not looked back since. Mark worked for The Charleston Beer Exchange, then moved into operations at Rafa Distributing, helping build the fledgling craft beer footprint in Charleston from 7 local craft breweries at the time to what is now more than 35. He also brings additional sales, operations, customer service, and management experience from his time at GT's Living Foods, Charleston Wine + Food, and Spike Bar Service. In his spare time, Mark enjoys finding the next cool thing to drink, whether it is a single-origin coffee, kombucha, orange wine, Chartreuse, or a Tiki cocktail. He also enjoys eating local oysters (no accoutrements needed), a good breakfast sandwich, and watching his beloved Manchester United with a cold Guinness.

After graduating from the hospitality management program, she launched her sales career in a historic downtown Columbia venue, The Lace House. Her journey then took her to Asheville, NC, where she found her niche working in the private events department at Highland Brewing Company. With a long-standing dream of living in Charleston, Brittany seized an opportunity in 2022 to relocate for a job. For the past two years, she has served as the Director of Sales at a hotel, leveraging her extensive background in sales and events. With over six years of experience, she brings a wealth of knowledge from her diverse roles in the hospitality sector, including serving, bartending, and managing events and venues. were not just met, they were exceeded! Our guests absolutely raved about the food. For station entrees at the reception, we served Beef Tenderloin, Shrimp and Grits, Butternut Squash Ravioli, and Coq Au Vin. The Ravioli and Beef were fan favorites, although all selections were fantastic. For passed hors d’oeuvres during cocktail hour, we served the Short Rib Spoon, Scallop Lollipop, Duck Confit, and Pickled Peach Bruschetta. We also served Chicken Biscuit Sandwiches as a late night snack, as well as a variety of Petite Desserts and Espresso Martinis for dessert. The bar had a wonderful selection of drinks including two custom signature drinks, named after our cats. Everything about our food and bar service were absolutely wonderful. We were told from several guests that we had the best wedding food they’ve ever had. Jacqueline and Vivian were wonderful to work with. We cannot recommend Salthouse Catering enough!

Jacqueline and Vivian were incredibly responsive throughout the planning process. They worked with us to build a menu that reflected our tastes and felt personal. They even went out of their way to accommodate special requests, including vegetarian and gluten-free options that our guests truly appreciated. On the wedding day, the catering team worked with our planner flawlessly to keep the event running smoothly.The timing was perfect, the presentation was beautiful, and the staff was warm, friendly, and attentive.
Our guests are still talking about the food!!! Each course was fantastic. Standouts included the seared scallop lollypops and rosemary chicken spiedie with a sorghum glaze, but honestly, every item on the menu was a hit.

rofessional. We loved the cocktail hour food! The dinner food was also great, however the potatoes gratin was undercooked and hard to eat, I would not recommend it.
The reason for the less than 5 star review was the process prior to the wedding. I will just say, I do not recommend selecting Salthouse until you have found the exact menu you want. In our case, after the first tasting, we had almost everything selected except we did not care for the seafood options we tried at the tasting. We set up a second tasting where they said they would make our recipe for crabcakes for us to try (we had to pay $150 for this second tasting). When we went to the second tasting, the crabcakes they made were not our recipe at all. So after leaving, unsure what in the world we were going to do, we asked to try their chicken instead since we were not coming up with a seafood option we liked and we were told not only "no", but a "hard no". Eventually we came up with a plan that worked for us and for them but it was definitely a stressful and disappointing experience. We should not have paid a deposit before knowing they had a seafood option that appealed to us.
As for the bar service that they contract out (Spiked), just know that if you want to add something not on the list, it will cost a lot, even on top of paying for an open bar. I was shocked at the extra costs for the simplest ingredients .
I hope this review helps someone else realize they do not need to rush into finding the right caterer. In the end, we wish we had done another tasting elsewhere to compare. Again, the food and service the day of the wedding were good, however the experience leading up to the wedding, was the most difficult one we faced during our wedding planning.

During our tastings, we of course want clients to sample the selections they are excited to present to their guests on their wedding day. Tastings provide clients with a general sense of the quality and presentation of what they can expect from our team, leaving them confident in making changes to the menu, even if they have not sampled a specific item during the tasting. By no means do we wish to create stressful situations for our clients, as we strive to simplify the planning process, knowing there is much to manage in planning for the big day. We appreciate you bringing your experience to our attention and will continue to work to find creative ways to provide a fun and relaxed tasting experience for future brides.
We have also passed along your feedback to our beverage service partner so they can continue to find ways to provide transparent pricing for upgrades to their beverage packages. We do work closely with the beverage service to ensure that any upgrade requests are communicated with the proper pricing, allowing clients to make informed decisions on special request additions. We also stress to clients that they are absolutely welcome to work with any beverage service of their choosing, if they find our partners packages or pricing do not fit their vision.
The wedding was truly beautiful and when we spoke on the day, it was great to hear from you how everyone was having such a lovely time and you enjoyed the food immensely. At the end of the day, we want the best for our brides, grooms and their families and hope it is everything they dreamed of. Thank you again and we wish you all the best.

For me, one of the most important things for our wedding day was the food. I think it is actually really difficult to deliver great wedding food because it is hard to cook for that many people all at once. However, Salthouse exceeded my expectations!
I was choosing between two caterers in the Charleston area, but Salthouse was the most responsive, organized, timely, and helpful so it was an easy decision in the end. We worked with Jacqueline throughout the planning process, and she was amazing! She gave great recommendations for our tasting selections. She worked with us to deliver exactly what we wanted from the food perspective but also from the design/presentation angle. She was incredibly responsive and quickly answered all my questions via email or phone.
Numerous guests complimented the food! Everyone loved the raw bar, and the purple smashed potatoes were a hit! For cocktail hour, we personally loved the Watermelon Canape (perfect for the summer heat!) and the Chicken Taco. For entrees, we did the Salthouse Crabcakes and the Strip Loin - both were so good! One of my favorite parts of the evening was the late night snacks we chose - Walking Taco (taco toppings in a Fritos bag) and a Fried Chicken Biscuit. Our guests raved about these for weeks!

Multiple guests came up to us throughout the night to tell us how delicious the food was, some of whom were event planners themselves. Jacqueline was wonderful to work with from day 1, helped us to accommodate specialty and kids meals for guests and always responded to emails promptly. Choosing all of your wedding vendors is a daunting task so from one recent local Charleston bride to future brides, I highly recommend Salthouse and hope this is helpful!

We also appreciated that they were familiar with our venue since it does not have a full kitchen. We felt confident in their plan to bring a mobile kitchen and the day of I honestly would have never known! The food, the staff, and the service thoroughly exceeded our expectations. My #1 item when planning our wedding was to have incredible and memorable food, especially since the majority of our guests were coming from out of town. We heard rave reviews throughout the night, and even two months later are still hearing compliments about the food at our wedding. We so appreciate Salthouse's professionalism and culinary talent. It was also a nice surprise to receive a box of mini desserts after our wedding because we did not have a chance to have any the night of! We definitely recommend Salthouse to anyone looking for amazing food for their wedding!

The food day of was delicious and our guests said it is some of the best wedding food they have ever had. We did stations, which is something that was new to us coming from the Northeast, but it worked out wonderfully! All the staff on site day of were a delight to work with and kept service prompt. If you hire Salthouse, we highly recommend adding the short rib spoon to your passed apps, my husband and I still dream of them and probably ate ten of them during cocktail hour! We couldn't recommend Salthouse enough!
