Saltwater Grille is a wedding venue located in South Portland, Maine. Their private, second-floor event spaces are ideal for couples looking to celebrate in an authentic New England setting.
Facilities and Capacity:
Saltwater Grille consists of two sites where you can host your special day. The bright Spinnaker Room features cathedral-style ceilings and large windows, elevating the room and creating an elegant ambiance. Located on the building’s second level, the private space boasts views of the Portland Harbor. While you and your guests sip your favorite drinks and share conversations, you can admire the shimmering water outside. For larger celebrations, the Seawatch Room is available. Highlighted by exposed-wood beams, its neutral, beach-inspired tones offer a blank canvas for your decor visions. This event space is connected to an outdoor balcony, allowing you and your loved ones to enjoy the fresh air. A full-service bar is also featured in the space for a seamless reception experience. Each of our spaces is great for boutique-sized weddings or you can secure both our larger room for weddings with up to 112 of your family and friends.

Whether you’re hosting your Engagement Party, Bridal Shower, Rehearsal Dinner, or Ceremony and Reception, Saltwater Grille is happy to accommodate you. To align with your preferences, the tables, chairs, and other furnishings can be arranged to your liking. The attentive staff will be there to set up on the big day so that you can focus on saying “I do” and creating long-lasting memories.
Cuisine:
The restaurant’s team of talented, distinguished chefs delights in curating unique menus for those celebrating at the venue. The culinary staff takes pride in offering guests high-quality seafood so that they can experience an authentic taste of Portland. After your ceremony, you and your loved ones can enjoy hot and cold hors d'oeuvres inside or out, served by the waitstaff. These delectable bites include options like crabcakes, lobster rolls, vegetable spring rolls, bacon-wrapped scallops, and more. For a smooth planning and serving experience, hors d’oeuvres can also be ordered as stations or packages. A variety of tasty plated meals and buffets are available for the main course. Appetizers such as jumbo shrimp cocktails and lobster bisque can be prepared to complement entrées like baked haddock, prime rib, and roasted salmon. Themed buffet options include clambake, surf and turf, and seashore-inspired meals, among more. We had a 40 person wedding reception at Saltwater Grille and the vibes were immaculate - the food was good, we were able to arrive by water taxi, and the service was second to none. Amy was unflappable in the planning process, and Galiana anticipated our every need on the day. They are seasoned wedding veterans at Saltwater Grille, and this meant we didn't have to worry about a thing. The space is also gorgeous for pictures, we can't recommend it enough!
We had our 80 person wedding reception at Saltwater Grille this past weekend and it was an absolute blast. Amy made the planning process so easy and we were extremely impressed by how communicative and organized she was. All of our requests were executed seamlessly and I was able to enjoy myself the day of the wedding without worrying about a thing. The view from the event space is gorgeous and our guests keep telling us how much they loved the food. Thank you so much again for hosting us and we can’t wait to come back for our anniversary!
Saltwater Grille was a fantastic place for my bridal shower! The upstairs room was the perfect size for our event. I liked how there was the room with round tables for our lunch and then a separate, connected room for gifts, decorations, favors, etc. Our guests loved the ocean views, complete with the Portland skyline. We also had our own private bathrooms and bar upstairs, as well, so we were very separate from the rest of the restaurant. I highly recommend Saltwater Grille for your next private event!

We hosted a rehearsal dinner for our extended families (about 45 people) the night before our wedding at the Saltwater Grille. I am so glad we found Saltwater Grille, as I had been looking and looking for a space in Portland that could accommodate that size group and was having a hard time!
Megan and Julia were great to work with and made everything easy.
The space itself (we rented the Seawatch room) is simple and beautiful and has views of the water and the city of Portland. There’s parking onsite for guests. The food (buffet style) was good, the staff were helpful, and there was a private bar in our room. I think their pricing model is very fair for the area. We would highly recommend them for your party needs in Portland.
Our reception at SWG was everything we had hoped for. Megan did an amazing job planning it with us and the food was phenomenal. Arriving on via the water taxi to the reception was great! This was the perfect place for our cocktail style reception for ~110 people. There was plenty of seating for those who preferred to sit and talk, but many chose to walk around and mingle or enjoy the deck. There was also plenty of space for the band and dancing.
Salt Water Grille has a coordinator at the venue who is fantastic! Megan made us feel like we had her full attention throughout the planning process and made our vision come to life for our ceremony and reception. We had about 70 guests which SWG could comfortably accommodate. The event area is separate from the restaurant, even with its own bathrooms. We couldn’t be happier with the way things turned out!
We had a small ceremony and dinner at the Saltwater Grille for our wedding and could not have been happier with our day. From the beginning, Megan was an absolute pleasure to work with and was incredibly knowledgeable and helpful throughout the entire process. She helped to coordinate every detail of the ceremony and the entire staff went above and beyond to make sure our day went smoothly. The food was amazing too! Couldn't have wished for a better venue or people to work with!! Megan at the SWG was so excited to make our day perfect and was open to any request. She set up the whole place and it was absolutely a dream come true. The food was delicious and the service was incredible. Megan was always available and quick to return my calls and emails. Not a single bad thing I could say about them, really an amazing venue and staff.
My in-laws chose this location for our rehearsal dinner, as it was less than a mile from the rehearsal it made perfect sense. The food was terrific, including assortments for vegetarian, gluten free and omnivorous diets as well as delicious desserts. The service was more than competent and I loved every minute. The view of the harbor, ocean and city beyond was the perfect backdrop to the perfect dinner.
I cannot say enough good things about the Saltwater Grille. We had our wedding reception here and everything was flawless. We had about 80 people attend. Megan, the coordinator, made it so easy for us. We dropped all of our decorations off and she decorated the room beautifully. The wait staff was also always on top of everything. The food also was one of the best Ive had at a wedding. I highly recommend having your reception here if you want a beautiful view, great staff, and a non banquet hall feel.
We had our wedding reception at the Saltwater Grille restaurant in South Portland. The venue was beautiful with gorgeous views of the harbor and of Portland, but that's not what impressed me the most. The staff were SO helpful and really worked hard to make the day what we wanted to be. They were accessible, friendly, flexible, and wonderful at every step of the way, right down to the day of. They made planning the wedding very easy, not stressful at all, and I really felt like they cared about us. For us, the food was still expensive, but it is VERY affordable in comparison to anywhere else we looked. And it'd delicious! I would recommend them any day!
I was looking to have an indoor lobster bake for my rehearsal dinner, and my then fiance/now husband and I decided to check the restaurant out. Not only did we find our rehearsal dinner site, we also found our reception dinner site (keep in mind that we were having a destination wedding, except that we lived in the area).
Our interactions with Megan, the events coordinator, was super friendly and helpful.
The rehearsal dinner went off as planned and was perfect! The food and service were excellent. We also enjoyed the fireworks from our room, as our rehearsal was on the 4th of July.
The reception also went off without a hitch. The lobster bake was perfect (also the fact that the lobster were caught the morning of). It was everything we could have asked for!
