They have been wonderful since day 1. Though in the end we are not having our wedding here, we appreciate their courteousness and professionalism. It is a lovely place to host an event, as well.
I held my wedding at the San Diego Botanic Garden this past weekend and it was the most magical location I could have ever found! The SDBG team was so easy to work with and they take such pride in having a wonderful and beautiful location. Their new Conservatory is absolutely stunning and made the perfect wedding venue! Everyone raved about the location!
I grew up going to the San Diego Botanic gardens for school field trips and girls scout’s outings. I came back to gardens when searching for a new wedding venue (pandemic bride here!) and my husband fell in love with the beauty and uniqueness the garden’s has to offer. There are quite a bit of hills but overall the venue location is stunning. I was disappointed that we were not told that the walled garden had been cut down. We still had a beautiful (and sunny!) ceremony but would have appreciated knowing that the space had been changed. Make sure you confirm your wedding date with them-they messed up our date and we had to re-plan the weekend and find some new vendors. Other than that, we truly loved having our wedding here and received many compliments from our guests.
AMAZING location for a venue. They provided tables and chairs. And then I hired "Epic Events Group" in San Diego and the planner Julie there, help me bring my wedding to life at this venue, by offering an all-in-one package to make it seamless. This venue is GORGEOUS and so worth it. Lita is fantastic and responsive - she is represents the Botanic Garden and will also help you along the way :)
We had a great experience with the beautiful SDBG. We are from out of town and had dreamed of getting married here. It is BEAUTIFUL, and there are endless photo opportunities throughout the garden. Lita was so wonderful to work with. She was flexible and helpful knowing we were not local, worked well with my local mom and our planner, was very professional and followed local safety protocols with COVID 19. When we needed to move our location of the ceremony within the garden to accommodate our party size while maintaining social distancing, they were so understanding and helpful. Such a great value for the service and visuals. We did not realize that the garden was closing at a specific time so we were a little rushed while taking pictures but I feel like that was more because of COVID and a misunderstanding on our part, so I would just recommend you clarify when you need to be out of the garden completely, not just your rented space of the garden! This was a very small hiccup, and had an otherwise perfect day.
We loved having our wedding at the San Diego Botanic Gardens! It was such a beautiful venue - we hardly needed any decorations because of the beautiful greenery. We also were very impressed with Lita Dantes. She was very quick to reply to emails, always friendly, and always answered my abundant questions! She was also flexible with ideas and plans, even though there were certain rules/guidelines we had to stay within. We also appreciated that we were allowed to visit the gardens several times before the rehearsal to visualize where everything would go, meet with our photographer, and do a walk through. During the actual wedding day, the SDBG staff was excellent at setting up chairs/tables for our use. It was a huge help that we were able to use their tables & chairs!
This venue was GORGEOUS. I loved how close the ceremony was to the reception and the natural greenery all around us. The walled garden was perfect for the ceremony with a lot of natural light, but also blocking out the sun with its trees.
They were a bit picky about which vendors we chose for our events since it is a garden that they are trying to preserve well. I also recommend getting standing heaters for your reception if your wedding is in the winter. It was really cold!! All in all, they had strict rules but they were reasonable with some of my requests and did what they could to give me what I asked for.
I couldn't have been happier with our choice to get married at the Botanic Gardens! My husband and I live in Las Vegas and the most important thing to us was to get married outside (not in the Las Vegas heat) and in a venue that truly felt like us. We didn't want anything too fancy or too pretentious, and it was also very important for us to chose a venue that let us bring in our own vendors.
Lita and her team at the gardens were a delight to work with and we were able to create the perfect rustic/secret garden feel that I had been envisioning.
The venue was incredibly clean, the ambiance and energy was perfect and our guests can not stop talking about how beautiful everything turned out! We couldn't have been happier! Thank you SD Botanic Gardens for being the perfect location to marry my best friend! -Courtney Hartmann
The San Diego Botanic Garden was the most amazing place to get married. We had a fairly large wedding (175 people) so we were nervous that it was too small. We were so wrong. Our ceremony was in the Walled Garden, and it felt very intimate (not crammed at all). Everyone was comfortable and the garden with the sun setting in the background was perfect. Our cocktail hour was in the herb garden which was really cool. The bar with vines growing on it was very pretty and we did a second bar with a beer tasting. Everyone went out to the overlook area for sunset before walking down to the reception (was Nov 5 so the sun was setting right before dinner). The reception was in the gazebo lawn which was set up perfectly. We had long tables, a dance floor near the tree, a band, and desserts set up in the gazebo. We did bistro lighting which i highly recommend. It gave the garden a dim light that made the setting very romantic and magical. Everyone complimented us on our venue and everyone there was very easy to work with. I absolutely loved our wedding here.
I can't imagine getting married anywhere else. The garden was really easy to work with and really affordable. We loved having 3 different spaces for our ceremony, reception, and cocktail hour. It was beautiful and our guests loved that they could wander the gardens. Also, there are so many different backdrops so our pictures turned out perfect. Highly recommend this venue!
SDBG was the perfect place for our wedding. It was absolutely stunning, convenient, and more than we could ever have imagined.
Having the ceremony, cocktail hour, and reception all located in the most beautiful place in San Diego was easy, and fun.
Thank you SDBG!
Lyzah the wedding coordinator at the San Diego Botanic Garden was awesome! So patient, helpful, offered many resources. The wedding was gorgeous, so beautiful that it carried itself without a lot of fuss. Would recommend the garden to any bride.
SDBG was exactly what we envisioned for as our wedding venue. So green and lush and seriously makes a perfect backdrop for photos.
Book fast though! We barely found an available weekend for our summer wedding.
The location is beautiful but there were 4 different botanical garden wedding organizers we dealt with from the time we booked to the day of our wedding, which was 6 months. Having to fill the new person in on what was discussed with the last person and having the final person we dealt with having only started 2 weeks prior to our wedding was unsettling. Everything ended up working out and I'm sure this isn't a typical situation there; just bad timing for us.
Perfect for a beautiful outdoor wedding near the ocean. We had our ceremony in the walled garden and the reception on the gazebo lawn.
The space felt natural and authentic for our rustic chic wedding.
Such a gorgeous venue, also a non-profit worth supporting. The current wedding coordinator there, Ashley, is wonderful. So welcoming and helpful. Overall the experience was excellent and the price was very reasonable. ONLY downside is that you have to bring everything in except for ceremony chairs (and they have a few belly bars, I think), but they have recommended vendors, etc, who work with them regularly. A pleasure! Everyone said it was a gorgeous wedding.
I am so happy that I used the San Diego Botanic Garden as my wedding location. The pricing was very reasonable and the scenery was perfect for pictures. I couldn't be happier with our choice. Their wedding coordinator is amazing too, she made the process so easy. My husband and I had a small intimate ceremony at the Waterfall deck.
I had my wedding here in the Walled Garden. This place is beautiful. Your wedding photos will be incredible here. The price is good too.
Everyone loved this venue, but it is definitely a DIY. The only thing provided is chairs for the ceremony. I actually preferred this because I could have my wedding just the way I wanted. You may choose from the preferred list for the rentals and catering. My ceremony (85 people) was in the walled garden and the reception was in the gazebo lawn. Overall, on June 29th, at 5 pm.... This was gorgeous! Be sure to warn your guests to wear comfortable flats (hills and grass) and encourage them to enjoy the gardens during your cocktail hour.
Beautiful location! We got married at the Walled Garden. I appreciated the free access to the garden before the wedding to view the site. Carla is very responsive and helpful. I also enjoyed being able to walk around the garden after the ceremony to take pictures - we did not have to go to any separate site to take pictures, the variety of options at the garden is excellent. One thing that was a little annoying was that whoever was next to use the Walled Garden area started arriving before we cleared out of the site (still within our allotted time). Overall, we loved it!
Our wedding ceremony was held in the Walled Garden. We had only 50 guests, and the garden was small enough that it didn't feel like we had too few guests. We hired a guitarist who brought his own sound system, but our officiant didn't need sound amplification. The setting is so beautiful and colorful that the only decoration we needed was to dress up the arch with some ivory and fuschia tulle. All the guests were able to walk around the gardens and enjoy themselves while we took pictures before the reception, which we held at a nearby restaurant. The best part is that we got free memberships for one year, so we can go back and visit anytime! I highly recommend this venue...great value for the price.
This Place is super affordable if your doing a day time wedding I reserved the Ecke Building which has a huge patio and is seculded from the public to give ultimate privacy also it is easy for vendors to pull up to unload and load all their belongings. Overall it is great for your money!
San Diego Botanic Garden is a beautiful venue. The guests loved being able to stroll the gardens while we took pictures (and we loved the backgrounds for our photos!).
The only thing I wasn't thrilled about with this venue is the changing room. It didn't have any place to hang dresses (so my dad built a super tall free-standing closet rod out of PVC pipes). It also didn't have air conditioning. All of the ladies did their hair and makeup at the hotel where my husband and I spent our wedding night, then got to the gardens just in time to change into our dresses before the ceremony.
Ceremony location: Walled Garden
Reception location: Gazebo Lawn
You can use the waterfall overlook to have some appetizers during the cocktail hour as well.
Make sure you are working with a vendor who knows how to deal with the slope on the lawn. Even though our caterer/rentals provider had done a lot of weddings at the gardens, the dance floor surface slid about six inches during the reception, and a few people tripped on it.
Our wedding at the SD Botanic Garden went seamlessly. I loved the greenery and nature that surrounded us during our event. The amazing backdrop also serves for beautiful wedding photos later!
Our wedding was on April 18 2009 we held our ceremony and reception at Quail Botanical Gardens. Carla the site coordinator was a pleasure to work with before the wedding and was highly professional and very responsive. The location is picture perfect and easily accessible for guests.
