brides are in the same boat), so during the planning process it was really hard for me to understand and communicate what I really wanted for a wedding day look. I wish more artists were as understanding as Sarah. I met her a little closer to my wedding day, and luckily she was available on my date. To be super honest, I had a few failed trials with other artists. I couldn’t pinpoint what it was with other teams, but I just remember looking in the mirror after the trials and not feeling like myself. Or feeling like when I asked for a change, other artists would get annoyed/frustrated with me. When Sarah did my makeup, I just felt so relaxed. When I asked for a subtle modification, she was so patient and was able to nail it rather than making me feel bad/dumb for even asking. I felt like a gorgeous, glowing version of myself - dewey and glowy and feminine. I tend to be a high-anxiety person and Sarah was calm and collected during my wedding day. I was so much more nervous and scared than I expected to be. I hope she knows how much I appreciated the sense of calm she brought. Even when we had to break for my flowers to arrive or had to deal with some unnecessary family drama, she maintained her sense of calm and was so kind.
The bride is usually dealing with a LOT of feels and pressure on the wedding day from all angles. The ability to give us some grace, and be kind, understanding, and patient, and just get that we’re humans going through one of the most significant days of our lives, is truly priceless and the mark of a kind and unique soul. I had the tricky circumstances of knowing basically nothing about makeup but also being extremely particular about makeup application, colors used, etc. I booked several trials on a visit to New Orleans and as soon as I looked in the mirror after Sarah finished my trial application, my decision was made. Her application was flawless, I had a full face of foundation on but couldn’t even really tell as she blends it so well that it looks completely natural. I showed her a couple images and explained what colors of eyeshadow I usually wear and she knew exactly what to do based off of that and absolutely nailed it. Sarah did my makeup for my engagement pictures as well as my wedding day makeup, my bridesmaids’ makeup, and my mom and mother in law as well. Everyone’s makeup looked incredible. We got married on a muggy day with all events outside (pictures, ceremony, reception, dance floor) and after over twelve hours and a very sweaty second line and dance floor, we all still looked great. In addition to Sarah’s amazing skills, she also is wonderful to work with. She is extremely prompt with communication, very organized, and also so much fun to hang out with while she’s doing your makeup! ed to do my own makeup because I know my face and know how I like my face to look. But, I ultimately decided to hire a professional makeup artist because there would be too much going on, and my eyebrows were the last thing I needed to stress about. Well, hiring Sarah was 100% the best choice.
Our wedding was a destination wedding, so I couldn't do my trial until the night before the wedding. This worked out so that I could have my makeup done for my rehearsal, and Sarah would make a few tweaks for the big day. At the trial, I told her that I didn't want to feel bridal. Traditional bridal makeup didn't feel authentic to who I am. I told her I wanted a more eclectic look and she really rolled with the punches and delivered a really cool look for the trial. BUT WAIT, THERE'S MORE... she does her homework, and the next day she comes with bigger lashes, rhinestones and more! It was a whole mood. My bridesmaids' makeup looked equally as amazing and fit each personality. Sarah was VERY patient with my mom's makeup which had its own hiccups.
I know not everyone wants eclectic makeup with big lashes and rhinestones. BUT, the point is that Sarah can do it ALL. Also, side note, The "getting ready" part of the wedding is such a special part of the big day. The overall energy with your girls really sets the tone, and it's great when the hair and makeup team feeds into that. Sarah has THE BEST fun facts for the get ready chit chat.
