Sassafras is a beautiful venue for a wedding which we and our guests really enjoyed, and for that they get 3 stars. But if you’re considering having your wedding here, you just mig...ht want to consider a few things. SSV does not go above and beyond to make sure you have everything you need. Because they are a popular and desired venue, they don’t have to. My bridal shoot (3 hours included with the price of the venue) was scheduled for a Monday when the venue was closed, and I was assured I’d be able to take photos all around the grounds. When I arrived with my photographers, it turned out they had booked a wedding that evening. I had to change in the kitchen in the tasting room, and I was only allowed to take photos in a restricted area (not in the chapel ruins or by the pretty grape vines). The wine they serve, they charge you around $20-25 a bottle ($275 per case) for wine that it’s $6 a bottle at the store. Yes that is nearly QUADRUPLE the price. The night of the wedding, SSV wanted to keep my $500 deposit because there were flower petals left on the ground in the chapel from my flower girls. I know that the staff has turned over some since my wedding in 2016, so I’m hopeful that things have gotten a bit better. Again, it’s a beautiful venue. Maybe I was naive in thinking that they actually do care about you, but unfortunately I felt that they do not.
