Their fondant is nothing like anything you've ever tried! It's a soft marshmallow-like covering that isn't chewy/gummy/tasteless. It complements the Italian buttercream so nicely, because it's not the super-sweet wedding cake icing that people are used to.
The cake part is all from scratch with whole eggs, which gives it extra moistness while keeping it light at the same time. We went with the orange-flavored cake with raspberry buttercream, and then the French vanilla cake with cream cheese buttercream icing. Both were loved by all!
Cecilia did an awesome job in designing a 'math' cake for us. I had a very precise idea of what I wanted and she just executed it perfectly. We had a 4-tier topsy-turvy cake with the top layer being a sphere. A geometrical challenge that turned out to be a scuptural beauty. All my guests loved it, and loved the taste too! The only thing I was disappointed about was the fact that I was expecting the equations we put on the cake to be written in sugar but she just glued edible paper with printed writting on it, and you could see the paper on top of the fondant. But overall they are great, fairly priced to respect to other shops. I also loved that Cecilia agreed to meet with us several times to rediscuss the design, as I heard most cakeries don't...
Cecilia did a great job bringing my vision to life for both our wedding cake and the surprise grooms cake for my groom.
I called two days before our wedding. Gabriel answered, and worked out a solution for me... The only problem was we should have sat down together to work out the design. As far as execution it was done very well.
The cake was chocolate, but had a very interesting flavor bouquet. Not your run-of-the-mill bakery!
I wish I could attach a picture here so you could see the master piece that Edet Okon and his team at Satin Slices created for our wedding! We knew there was only one cake baker we wanted to work with, and we were thrilled that Edet was able to do both our bride's cake and groom's cake! I met with Edet for a consultation where I shared my ideas of my cake, and he took those to the next level and brought them to life! He also listened to my flavor likes/dislikes, and for our tasting meeting, he introduced us to some exotic flavors, and traditional flavors, everything was scrumptious! We went with Madagascar vanilla for one tier, and hazelnut amaretto for the other tier...divine! The grooms cake was a tribute to my husbands love of snowboarding, Edet did a fabulous job of making a cake snowboard... he loved it! His still is amazing, he is a true professional and loves what he does, I would highly recommend Satin Slices! I wish I had a piece of that cake right now... YUMMM!
my experience working with Satin Slices was very disappointing. During the initial meeting, when we discussed both the grooms cake and brides cake, he sounded excited and assured me that the cakes would come out looking perfect. The grooms cake was a surprise to my husband, and I wanted it to be something to do with his school. I asked the baker which he would feel most comfortable to make well, the stadium, a car or the tower from campus. He said he would do the car, which I was excited about since that was my first choice. Then for the brides cake, we wanted it to be fairly simple, 4 tiers with a a little fondant draping between tiers and purple orchids at the top and bottom. The draping was supposed to be pink, to match my dress. I sent them a color swatch and multiple pictures of my dress so they could match the color and embellishments for the cake. Additionally, they agreed to make 2 different flavors for the tiers. After that first meeting, I never heard back from the baker. I emailed several times to make sure they had everything to make the cake, that everything was going smoothly and if there was anything they needed for the car cake. Finally, a week before my wedding, after leaving frantic voicemails, they finally emailed back saying not to worry, everything will be perfect.
On the day of my reception, I saw the cakes and I could not believe my eyes. The brides cake was hideous! The pink was like a dull grey with no embellishments and the purple orchids almost looked black! It did not go with anything and was completely disappointing. Furthermore, they did not deliver the cake flavors they had promised! However, that was nothing compared to the grooms cake. After careful planning and hoping to give my husband a fun surprise, it was horrendous! The cake did not in ANY WAY resemble the car that it was supposed to. Also, he was supposed to make sugar figures of the bride and groom standing outside the car, and the colors were supposed to match the outfits we were wearing. He took left over color that he used on the car to paint the grooms outfit and made the bride figure to look like an old lady, hunched over, wearing an ugly grey dress. Needless to say, I was unbelievably disappointed with what they delivered.
When I met with them to discuss what happened after the wedding, they were combative, unaccommodating, and completely heartless. They tried to say that I did not communicate with them, at which time, I showed them the numerous emails I sent them and the letter of understanding that they sent me. Needless to say, I would not recommend them at all! They promise a lot and deliver nothing, and leave you regretting trusting them with your big day.
Cakes were beautiful! and exactly what we discussed, no surprises!
