From the beginning to the end Schafer Barn on the Hill was exceptional with their service and communication. We loved the initial viewing and loved utilizing not only their rentable decorations, but also their walk away cleaning fee. Our wedding weekend was a little crazy with unforeseen weather events, but Schafer Barn on the Hill went above and beyond to make sure our wedding went smoothly but also made accommodations available for guests who did not want to leave with the weather. We would highly recommend this venue to anyone looking for a perfect spot for a wedding!
The Venue was absolutely perfect for our big day! We loved the layout of Venue, everything flowed so well. The barn is already so well decorated! Wedding guests absolutely loved the tree chandelier that truly separates this barn venue from all others. One of the best things that we didn't think about right away was the Airbnbs they have right there on site. So nice to be able to get ready and have family staying close by. We'd pick this place a 1000 times over if we had to pick again. Bridal suite was perfect from getting ready. The hair stylist had plenty of room to work on all the girls. The bar is so well done! There's area to grab beer quick and they have an actual bar area where we could sit down and hangout after rehearsal. Staff was super friendly. Barn has a ton of character that enhanced the feel of our wedding and reception. Communication was a breeze even for last minute questions. Truly was a dream come true!

A family-run business, its owners understand the importance of gathering loved ones to celebrate a couple’s new beginning. Located within driving distance of Des Moines, the property invites guests to escape into a world of bliss, secluded from the bustle of modern life.
Arriving at Schafer Barn on the Hill, party-goers are greeted by rolling meadows of deep green under an expansive blue sky. The Century Barn is a venue with community and love at its heart. The structure actually dates back over a century and was renovated by the current owners in order to host the weddings of their children. Its new sister-structure, the Barn on the Hill, welcomes nearlyweds to write the first chapter of their own special story. A purpose-built stage on which to celebrate, it is extremely spacious with a high-reaching ceiling, and includes dramatic design elements. Most notable amongst these is the breathtaking chandelier that hangs over the central space, made from a repurposed tree. Sturdy beam posts frame the ceremony area, and there is a stylish, hunting-themed bar that welcomes guests to relax and raise a glass to love.
Schafer Barn on the Hill can welcome a large gathering for a barn-storming night of fun. Up to 600 guests can spend the evening dancing, dining, and having fun together under its shelter. The venue even includes a fully-equipped kitchen, ready to help caterers serve up a delicious wedding feast. The management can provide furniture for the event, including tables and chairs. The staff is happy to roll up their sleeves and help out on the day, whether setting up and cleaning up the venue, bartending, or just running errands for the party. The bride and groom are welcome to stay the night in the nearby Red Shed Lodge, for a peaceful night’s sleep in the calm of the countryside.

Tim and I have been married for 32 years, and have 4 amazing kids ages 31 to 12. We have always been self-employed and have run several different types of businesses, but we have had the most fun with being involved in the wedding venue business. Our oldest two children got married in 2015 within 2 months of each other, so when we decided to host weddings for people we had first hand knowledge of what we would love or dislike about a venue, and we have done everything we can to make a wedding at one of our barns be as stress free and simple as possible.
