A dream come true! This was not the wedding my husband and I had originally planned, but it was the wedding of our dreams!! With less than 30 days before our traditional church wedding I received a call from the priest informing me that the church would remain closed due to Covid-19. After talking with my sister, she had recommended we look at the Lannon E. Schooner. My fiancé was not convinced, however after touring the boat, and talking to the captain and the wedding coordinator we were hooked! Normally the Schooner holds 49 guests, however due to Covid-19 restrictions capacity was limited to 27, including a JP and photographer. We had the most amazing wedding we could have imagined! From the incredible views, the delicious food (lobster bake, clam chowder, and BBQ chicken), even my mother who is a very picky eater enjoyed the food. We were able to bring on board our wedding cake and individually wrapped pastries. We were married by Captain Heath using traditional sea vows and had our first dance as a married couple at sunset!!! Perfect, simply perfect is all I can say!!! Our guests are still talking about what a wonderful time they had on board and there is talk of an anniversary cruise already!!!
Wow is all I can say! If you’re looking for a small, unique wedding venue this is it! I am writing this from the maid of honor's perspective but this was the bride’s dream - a nautical-style wedding surrounded with views of beautiful Gloucester Harbor. Due to Covid 19 precautions, we had to keep the guest count low, but normally the boat holds around 49 guests. We appreciated the crew of the Lannon for following all the Covid-19 precautions, and providing courteous and fun service.
You can do everything on the boat, (and on the open ocean!) as you would do in a church and reception hall—hold the ceremony, have a reception, enjoy cocktails, play your favorite music or invite a performer, and even dance!
The Captain of the Schooner performed the ceremony as we were moored at Niles Beach, we then enjoyed a boiled lobster dinner complete with clam chowder, corn on the cob, cole slaw, and watermelon. Other menu options were available, but we chose lobster, because Gloucester! We supplied our own extra desserts (all individually wrapped) and our own wedding cake. Of course, throughout the evening we enjoyed champagne toasts, rum punch and other beverages. Other boats going by waved and shouted congratulations! Our evening ended with a gorgeous sunset as the bride and groom’s favorite songs played on the speaker. Guests who wanted to continue to party walked right off the boat into the Gloucester House side bar, and no one wanted it to end.
Thank you to the Schooner Lannon for this wonderful memory!
