My dad is from Schulenburg, so I've been to Sengelmann Hall countless times, and the weekend it opened I picked it for my wedding (I wasn't even engaged yet). It's gorgeous, the fo...
od is great, the dancehall is perfect, and there's so much history to it. My great grandpa even drank at the original bar.
The problem with Sengelmann Hall is internal I think. Since my family knows almost everyone in Schulenburg, we have heard all about the problems the Hall is going through. Employees quit all the time and I'm not sure why. The bartenders working during my wedding were awesome, and even though some things didn't go as planned, as soon as I asked for something, it happened. They were there for anything we needed, even though the lady who I talked to for ALL of my planning wasn't there that night (turns out she quit). Overall, the Hall is beautiful, but there's a lot of headaches working with the people in charge.
When I first went to Sengelmann's, I fell in love with the ambiance, decor, and feel of the place. It was a no-brianer for my husband and I when we were looking for reception venue...
s. We barely used any decorations because the venue is so gorgeous. We just used some burlap, mason jars, tulle, and flowers. It went along perfect with the feel of the place. They offer a variety of packages depending on what you were looking for such as table cloths, catering, drinks, alcohol, etc. all of which could be added to your package. We decided to cater our food from someone else, which was no problem at all, and the venue provided the bus boys. The great thing about Sengelmann's is the space. We rented the upstairs and downstairs. Dinner was served downstairs and the dancing was upstairs. The bathrooms are brand new, extremely clean and located on both floors. There is also an elevator to get to the upstairs. The DJ and photographer were included in our package and were great. My only regret was not getting more posed pictures. I am a fan of very staged pictures and most of the pictures we got were candid. I probably should have communicated that more during the planning phase. Other than that, the pictures were great and captured the entire event from start to finish. It just depends on what your taste is. The people that work there are willing to work around your needs and try to accommodate you to the best of your ability. I sent the song list a week before, but after seeing how the crowd was feeling with the music, I talked to the DJ at least 10 different times about what I wanted played and he was very happy to help. Heather, the wedding planner, was so thoughtful and made sure I was happy at all times. She checked in with me constantly to check up on anything from the fans to giving me another glass of wine. She was there the entire time to help with anything we needed. I would absolutely recommend Sengelmann's to anyone wanting a unique, large, and fun venue.
My husband and I had our wedding reception at Sengelmann Hall on September 10, 2011. The venue is beautiful and the perfect place for a wedding. We didn't have to spend much at all...
on decorations because it's already beautiful, we just decorated the tables. If you like the vintage look or rustic look it will work either way. I went vintage and once I got there everything fell into place perfectly for decorating. Our pictures turned out great because of all of the neat walls and the big beautiful windows bringing in natural sunlight. The staff was great and got everything done efficiently. We had some last minute changes so there was a little mix up from it but the error we had was corrected immediately and we were compensated for the error. Heather was very good at making sure I stayed calm and just enjoyed my day. They made a delicious batch of Sangria and made sure I had my own carafe set aside for just me to drink. After the wedding she found one of our disposable camera and right away called to let me know rather than throw it away. We really appreciated that. A few weeks ago I received an email from Heather with some pictures she had taken at the wedding and was so excited to see them, one of the ones of us dancing our first dance is my favorite, even above the ones from my photographer. I thought that was very thoughtful of her to send me these pictures. It shows how genuine they are, they were already paid in full and did not have to do that. That is what I call going above and beyond. Sengelmann Hall isn't just a place I've gone to for my wedding, I really enjoy going there for a nice dinner and/or a night of live music and dancing. The food is always amazing! Especially the Chicken Schnitzel! I feel welcomed every time I walk in the door and it was because of this that I was determined to have our wedding there! I would recommend this spot to anyone for any occasion. Our family and friends still tell us how much they enjoyed it. My only advice... my husband and I joke that we should've had walkie talkies because the place is big, two stories along with a beirgarten and we kept missing each other. If I was upstairs, he was downstairs. Worked out though because we had ALOT of people and that way he mingled with guests in one section I mingled in the other. Big was good though... Beirgarten gave a nice place for smokers to sit and still mingle, we had the upstairs for the ones done with dinner to migrate to and mingle while awaiting the dance to begin and the downstairs for dining. It all worked out perfectly! Thank you Sengelmann Hall for being such a special part of our fairy tale!
I had the opportunity to help my best friend plan her wedding at Sengelmann Hall and I was so impressed with all of the staff, managers, and prices. Not only did they handle ever...
y part of the wedding professionally, they also were the sweetest group of people I've ever dealt with. They aren't expensive like a lot of big city venues and even worked out a payment plan for the bride and groom so they could afford to rent the whole venue and cater the party for their friends and family. They worked with her on the menu and even went out of their way to buy special ingredients for us because we had some people attending who were vegetarians and were picky about dinner. They didn't act like it was a problem at all! The staff has a lot of experience handling hundreds of people walking through the door at one time and greeted every single person with a smile and a cocktail! The bride and groom chose one of their preprohibition cocktails to give to the guests when they arrived and it was a nice way to start the party!
The food was excellent and the cupcakes were so good. The baker, Sharon Burns is amazing!!!!! :) She makes the most unique cupcake flavors from scratch. I hope someday she goes on Cupcake Wars! Cuz she is so so good at what she does.
We opted to have their inhouse DJ handle our music and they had every song on our playlist! They also went out of their way to get some special music for us like "Barbara Streisand" by Duck Sauce! You see, I had a funny idea on Saturday morning and wanted to surpise my friend with that song and so I asked the manager if it was too late to add it. They said NO PROBLEM and went and bought the song for me so we could play it that night.
I recently became engaged and we have already decided to have our wedding at Sengelmann Hall in 2013, so if you want a TX wedding and you want a BEAUTIFUL place to hold your reception - Check out Sengelmann Hall cuz they are super duper fantastic!!! Five stars all the way!
I have to say that our hall was the worst part of our wedding planning experience. It is unbelievable how bad they were. I was told I could call any time, but when I called like 3 ...
times before my wedding I was treated like I was nothing. We paid so much for a hall that put fees (and hidden fees!!!) on everything. They even lost my receipts and tried overcharging me almost $1200 of stuff on my last contract. The day of they didn't have any of my wedding songs there even though I gave it to them a week before. I think the hall manager knew I was so upset at her that she had to get her assistants to run the wedding so I wouldn't see her. The actual reception went perfect, but really it was all because of my hard work and how much I was so detailed. They were no help.
As soon as my parents and I walked into Sengelmann Hall we knew it was the right place! My fiance and I love historical buildings and boy does this place have history! Ghosts and a...
ll!
The entire staff, including Heather, Harvana, and Brenna, are there to please, and they did a wonderful job! My drink was never empty! The food is great and the cakes are even better! (Pink champagne is a must!!) And while you're there you have to try the Moscow Mule! We had our rehearsal dinner, ceremony and reception there, and were able to have access the entire weekend! I had a great time, the staff was very kind and helpful, and if I had to do it all over again, I'd choose the same place!!
