We were supposed to get married at the top of the mountain and snowboard down. Shawnee was going to run the lift for us an hour before the mountain opened. Unfortunately, due to torrential rain, we were contacted the day before our wedding and told the mountain was going to be closed. We were allowed to utilize the grounds and buildings on site for our wedding, and ended up being married in front of the large window in the sugar haus. We were refunded our deposit since we weren’t going to be able to use the equipment we had asked for. Colleen was very nice and helped coordinate, but was hard to get ahold of until about a week before the wedding. If you are a bride or groom that needs concrete plans and details way ahead of time, this may not be the right venue for you. We were more than happy with our spontaneous changes, but we are very go with the flow type people.
The venue is gorgeous, the food was almost excellent, but the customer service up until 2 weeks before my wedding was not good. He was almost impossible to contact and did not return emails/calls for weeks at a time. When the wedding was within 2 weeks away, he was always ready to respond- luckily!
Shawnee Peak is a ski resort in the winter but holds weddings during the summer months. It's got a rustic charm and in a very pretty location on a mountain and near a lake. The property also has an awesome guest house that sleeps up to 44, where we had our rehearsal BBQ and us and our whole bridal party and friends stayed all weekend. It was a lot of fun!
It's a great value for your money -- you get the place for four days, which gives plenty of time to set up and decorate (and you'll need it, since you'll be doing most of it yourself). If you use them as your caterer, they waive the $2,000 room fee -- the ceremony is an extra $300. It's got a nice room for the ceremony and a deck off the reception room that's great for mingling. It's a little small -- they say they can accommodate 150 people, but we had 110 and it was still fairly tight. I can't imagine fitting anyone else in there!
The food is good and well-priced. The wedding coordinator is hard to get in touch with, which was frustrating at times. You have to really be on top of things and be well-organized.
In the end, it was the perfect place for us, despite the trouble getting in touch with them. We wanted something rustic in a pretty Maine location that was affordable.
