we wanted to there was an extra fee to paid. Mine you I found this out the day of my wedding. Nonetheless, everything ran as smoothly as possible once we were allowed in. My second complaint is that at some point during the day the air in reception ballroom malfunctioned. It was quite warm especially with 150 guests. Not mentioned we got married on the hotest day of the year(108 degrees). The show went on and despite it being so hot inside everyone had a great time.

transaction turned into a complicated ordeal. What this vendor has that others don't is the guise of a 'non-profit' that they use as an excuse for nickel and diming you at every corner. At first, my husband and I only reserved the ballroom for our reception (we really wanted the ballroom for both the ceremony and reception..turn-around would cost us $5,000 extra) Later on, we caved and decided to reserve the concert hall for the ceremony. I informed Cacia of this, Rachel's assistant, who conveniently never received the email. Despite having a back-and-forth conversation about the details of the concert hall, she never followed-up after "not receiving a final answer." Needless to say, we believed we had the hall reserved for MONTHS. Then, 5 months before the wedding, she informed us about not receiving the email. I forwarded it, and naturally, never got an apology. Instead, she told my husband that I just never reserved it. My husband and I lived out of state for most of our planning period, so on one of the few trips we had in St. Louis, we wanted to take our officiant (also from out of town) on a tour of the facility. We called more times than I actually have a number for. Each time, the receptionist directed us toward their offices, assuring us they were there, and NOT ONCE DID ANYONE ANSWER. We literally called every hour for an entire business day. So we showed up. We were instructed to wait in the greenroom, directly behind the concert hall stage. We peaked our heads in, and then someone, came halfway down the stairs to tell us to leave. As she was saying this to us, she walked back up the stairs. It was the most unapologetically rude encounter we had the entire planning period. The next day Rachel returned our many voicemails, and never apologized for the behavior of that worker (who might have been Cacia but we had never met her in person before and she didn't introduce herself before instructing us to leave and walking away), and informed us that they have to schedule all tours. Which we had tried to do for days. They are awful at communication. You could have had an email conversation for over a few hours, and then radio silence, in the middle of answering questions, and not hear from them for weeks. This happened once, and again, we called, and were told they were gone for the day. Why wouldn't you inform someone in the middle of the exchange that you were going to leave for the day? They also can't give you a rehearsal dinner date until 3 months prior. So if you have out of town guests booking flights, you can't give them any details. I don't expect someone to be at my every beckoning call, but I do expect communication and basic customer service. Beware of the other hidden fees: multiple bartenders and tips and if you want to have a break in between the ceremony and reception, prepare to open your wallet and tell all of your guests to leave, because that has to happen. Another fun surprise that happened on the day of our wedding: clean up had to be that night. Would have been nice to know that literally at any other time other than 11:00pm after our wedding. Like I said before, our wedding was beautiful and our pictures are wonderful, but I don't recommend The Sheldon if you live out of town, are on a tight budget, or like planning in advance.

The space is incredible and beautiful, and was the perfect setting for our day. I am so happy with our decision to go with the Sheldon for our ceremony and reception, and would highly encourage everyone to check out the space for themselves!

s the reputation as "The Carnegie Hall of St. Louis." If history and architecture are important to you in a unique wedding venue, The Sheldon is really the perfect place to get married. The concert hall has perfect acoustics, so no need for a microphone to say your vows; in fact, speakers such as Albert Einstein, Dwight Eisenhower and Ernest Hemingway have all spoken from the stage. There is an elegant room with marble accents and a chandelier for the bride and bridesmaids to get ready in, and a sophisticated-looking green room for the men that reminded me of Sherlock Holmes' living room. We loved working with the Event Director Rachel and the Event Assistant/our day-of coordinator Cacia. They were both very friendly and quick to respond to any questions or requests that we had. We got married in the concert hall, followed by cocktail hour in the atrium. Our reception was in the stunning ballroom. Cacia made sure everything ran smoothly the day of our wedding. If you do plan to have your wedding at The Sheldon, one thing to keep in mind is that The Sheldon has to have its concert schedule laid out before you can book a wedding for that year. So, you may not be able to book the exact date that you want depending on the concert schedule, and you may have to wait to book until the concert schedule is complete even if you know you want the venue a year in advance. Rachel was very easy to work with through this process, though. We had an amazing wedding and we HIGHLY recommend The Sheldon!!

The Event Director Rachel was such a joy to work with. She was super responsive and always very courteous and helpful. Cacia the Event Assistant was also always easy to work with and very helpful. Our coordinator the day of, Sue, was another wonderful person to work with. The whole staff at the Sheldon helped make the day run so smoothly. I have no complaints with the Sheldon and highly recommend it for those looking for a unique space where the whole day can be held.

n person, and it was the best decision we could have made. The concert hall is a beautiful place to have a ceremony. There is a very nice room for the bride to use and a great room for the groom to use. Then the atrium with the art gallery is a great place for your guest to spend cocktail hour while you take some pictures. I was surprised how great the art gallery was! Also, the ballroom is gorgeous with the twinkle lights and dark wood. There is also a little balcony upstairs that is included with the rental. You must use the Sheldon bar service, which our guests and us really enjoyed. You also, must use one of their preferred caterers or you have to pay an extra $5/person. However, we used one of their preferred ones and it was delicious! Rachel, Cacia, and Quinton were amazing at making sure everything was set for us. They were always quick to respond to emails. We could not have asked for a better team of people to work with. Quinton was a fabulous wedding day coordinator, making sure everyone was were they needed to be and even getting people drinks along the way. It took a lot of stress off me as the bride knowing that other people were taking care of all the small details. I would recommend using the Sheldon to everyone! We loved it!

of times we asked to see the venue (my parents, myself, the outside caterer), the back and forth questions, and then being there to shield me from drunken/annoying guests at the end of the night of the wedding! The venue is truly a hidden gem of St. Louis! We used the Louis Speiring room due to our large wedding and the cocktail hour. There was another wedding going on on the top floor, but we would have never known! It was such as great reception and we owe this to the Sheldon!

There is also parking available and it's wheelchair accessible. Rachel, the Director of Events, was fantastic to work with, very professional and helped meet all of our needs. I would highly recommend the Sheldon for your next event!

s a roof space for people to enjoy off the ballroom. The concert hall worked out great for the ceremony. I was skeptical about walking down the aisle in a big dress but it worked out no problem. The acoustics are perfect (seriously) so we didn't even need a mic to be heard during our vows. The space worked for us because we could have the entire wedding/reception in one place, it had onsite parking, they worked with a wide variety of caterers and was still pretty centrally located. To be fair here are a few things to consider with this space. Music and the arts are, of course, their priority so dates are harder to come by. The bar has to be setup specially in the ballroom so you do not have an option of doing an open bar/cash bar option. Rachel was great to work with. She walked us through everything when we came up for an official tour and she was very helpful and polite when I asked her what had to be a million questions. Overall a great experience.

t was a great experience and I would do it again, however, there are a few things I would change have liked to do differently. First off, wish we had more time for the rehearsal. We had it before another wedding and it was rushed. Secondly, the rental cost for the actual space was a little pricey. Thirdly, I didn't like that everyone had access to the top deck... so we were hanging out with people from another wedding. Finally, when we wanted to bring in special cases of beer, we were charged an elevated price even though we were already paying for an open bar the entire night. It bothered me they charged extra and made a profit off that IN ADDITION to making a profit on the open bar per person.

During the reception, all I had to do to catch her attention was hold up one finger. From the back of the room, she saw me and came immediately to see what I needed. I would book another event with her in an instant.

e, yes. However, every email I sent her was answered within 24 hours AND she was extemely accessible the week of my wedding. She told me that she was very busy and works primarily in the week she is in and that she did. She was quite friendly and organized in person as well. My wedding was organized, the staff at the Sheldon the night of my rehearsal and the night of my wedding were helpful and friendly, and our experience there was nothing short of beautiful and perfect!!

d there are sky lights that can be opened or closed to adjust the ambiance. Guests reach the elevator to the ballroom by walking through the Sheldon Art Gallery. In addition, if you are the first to book an event on a particular date, they can reserve the private parking lot for your guests. They also have a nice range of preferred caterers, or you can pay extra to have the caterer of your choice. The only negative about the Sheldon is that they primarily have only 60-inch round tables. You may need to rent a smaller cake table or rectangular tables from the caterer. Overall, we were very happy with the Sheldon. It was extremely nice, especially after viewing other venues of a similar price and we got a discount because our wedding was on a Sunday.

e. Another thing that I liked about this venue was that I could bring in my own caterer, linens, DJ, etc. The room, bar, and parking were the only costs fixed by the Sheldon. The hardwood floors, sky lights, and ceiling beams adorned with little white lights was enchanting. The event coordinator, Laurie, is a little less enchanting. My main complaint with her was that she did not want to finalize ANY details until the Monday before my wedding. So even though I had written her a hundred emails, called her several times, and met with her twice in person, I had to start from scratch with her the Monday prior to my wedding to sort through all the details with her again. Despite all of this, the night of my even the staff were wonderful and my reception ran smoothly. Another bonus about the Sheldon Ballroom (which I didn't find out about until my wedding night) is that there is a balcony on the roof as well that can be used on a nice summer evening for your guests that want to get away from the dance floor for a breath of fresh air.

Because we wanted to have a Ceremony and Reception at the same indoor venue, we had a limited list of venues that would work. If I could go back in time I probably would have gone somewhere else. On the bright side the bar package is a good value, however I don't think the selections are very up to date, and the plastic cups they served the mixed drinks in were tiny. I would not recommend this venue.
