The Sheraton LaGuardia East Hotel blew us away with their hospitality and expertise with our Western/Eastern style wedding. We planned our wedding 1 year in advance, and the SLEH team worked hard all year to make sure our wedding was a priority, no matter how far in advance it was. We had a room block of 35 rooms all filled 4 months before the wedding, which made it ideal for a half destination wedding (bride's side from Canada, groom's side from New York). Scott helped us with any questions we had all year, and we had Steven R. for the month leading up to the wedding.
What I appreciated the most was their willingness to make the Sheraton Hotel a "home base" for the bride's side of the family, all from out of town. They went above and beyond to make sure our guests were well taken care of. As the bride and groom staying in the hotel for the wedding week, the SLEH staff made sure we had all our needs and requests met, which we're super grateful for.
We had a western-style rehearsal dinner for 40 people on the day before the wedding. It was nice to use the ceremony space and go over wedding details with everyone before the big day.
We planned our entire wedding day at the Sheraton. From getting ready in the suites for hair and makeup, to having Chinese door games being played outside of their conference room. We had our tea ceremony in a private room on the 2nd floor, which was nice for our families. We had a gorgeous outdoor western wedding ceremony on the Outdoor Terrace that accommodated up to 250 outdoor seats. Our guests enjoyed drinks and hors d'oeuvres during the cocktail hour with live music. Our reception in the Phoenix Ballroom was an amazing space to have an "intimate" large wedding. Guests from both sides really enjoyed the Chinese style banquet food and were able to take leftovers home. Some even said it tasted better than the Chinese restaurants, which was nice to hear. Bartenders were able to make custom drinks for our guests and everyone seemed to have a wonderful time.
I've heard mixed reviews about this venue before booking, however we have zero regrets with booking our hybrid Canadian/Chineses/Japanese/American style wedding. I think if couples are willing to put the time into planning their wedding the way they want, especially if they want a Western/Eastern hybrid, the Sheraton is a fantastic choice. We also toured the venue a year before the actual wedding, and all the renovations to the hotel paid off nicely by the time our wedding came around. I also understand there has been changes to the way the Sheraton operates for their weddings, but definitely for the better. My mother-in-law had a negative perception of the venue at first, and to be honest she was kind of skeptical when I told her we booked it, but now that the wedding is over, she absolutely loved how well things went and all the positive feedback she received. Banquet Manager Steve made the world of a difference and knows what he's doing to make sure couples have their needs met, and he goes above and beyond to make your day special. If you book with them, make sure you have lots of time to plan.
I had known early on in my wedding planning process that I absolutely had to have a wedding with Chinese food, served family/banquet style. Everything else about my wedding was negotiable except this one condition. I knew about Sheraton (via the internet and sparse reviews), but it wasn't until a distant relative of mine had his wedding (June 2022) at this venue that I knew I could only have my wedding here. The location is hard to beat (heart of Downtown Flushing) and the food is top-notch. I also am partial to hotel venues, as they offer the convenience of pretty much being a one-stop shop.
Sheraton Laguardia East Hotel combines the best of both worlds: you have top-notch quality Chinese food with a backdrop that is versatile enough to be decorated as per Chinese tradition or Western tradition. I know I had other options for Chinese banquets, but a restaurant wasnt what I envisioned for my venue. Sheraton’s Phoenix ballroom was definitely more my style. I also had a lot of guests traveling from all parts of the US and beyond, so the venue being a hotel helped me and many of my guests. My husband and I booked two rooms his parents and us to stay the night before the wedding day, and this definitely was important to ensure our day ran as smoothly as possible. And because we had over 120 guests, we got a complimentary bridal suite room the day of our wedding, which my family ended up using since the night ran very long and we were all very tired (but very happy).
My husband and I had 133 guests, and the phoenix ballroom was able to comfortably seat us and all of our guests with a standard dance floor. We choose to have an indoor ceremony, but you have an option of an outdoor terrace if you want something outdoors. The outdoor terrace has a nice gazebo, though the backdrop to it is the Flushing skyline and a big chimney; I mean it is what it is. But I personally didn't care too much about my ceremony, as I was already legally married. And Melissa's Creations did a great job elevating the indoor ceremony space.
The food is really what is so great about Sheraton. As a child of Chinese immigrants, I grew up eating banquets for holidays and family gatherings. That is the style that Sheraton so uniquely offers. Sheraton has a couple of different pre-set menus, varying in terms of how fancy the included foods are. But you'll always get a variety of dishes no matter which option. You can also customize your menu as per your needs; the venue staff works with you. They also have cocktail hour food and a variety of alcohol-options. We opted for the Magnificent Menu and some wine bottles for the table and completely wowed our guests and earned ourselves the title of having “the best wedding amongst our parents' friends”. 😂😂😂
Let's be real here, Chinese people only go to weddings for the food. So if you’re going to spend so much money on a wedding, you might as well go all out with the food.
Scott Huang was the manager who sold this venue to us and helped to finalize our contracts and all of our wedding details. Steve Ramos was the banquet manager and our Point-of-Contact the day of. Both were instrumental in our wedding being the success it was. I can't thank them enough for their hard work.
I would definitely recommend Sheraton Laguardia East Hotel if you want to host a upscale Chinese banquet for your wedding.
Great staff & services, from Hotel Managers to the staff!
Held my wedding last Dec 2021, approx 150 guests came. The planning was smooth, I worked with Ms Dora & Mr Joel. I booked 6mos prior to make sure ofthe availability given is a big group.
They were flexible and had followed up all my request even until the last week of wedding. Day of wedding was great, we booked a hotel the night before - except for the confusing hallways due to renovation- everything was prepped, room wise. Easy hotel check ins, Mr Joel made sure we're accommodated. (We booked the entire floor!!)
Food catering on Rehearsal, and wedding day is phenomenal, all food is fresh nice and hot (we ordered buffet).
staff wise, they're very helpful, Mr Scott assisted us on the Reception, very helpful and accommodating! Overall, we had a great time!
My 1st impression of the location once I arrived was not great, the area is congested and the traffic is horrendous. However, I decided to give it a try. There is little to no parking, but the hotel offers paid parking. I arrived on time after calling to confirm my appointment. No one at the front desk had any idea as to what was going on. They could not find my name or the planner that I was to meet. An employee even went as far as to tell me that the person I was scheduled to meet is on vacation. I began to get a frustrated as I am now wasting my time. Minutes later Scott the manager came out to meet with me and gave me a tour of the 2 ballrooms offered. The outside area was very nice however the ballrooms were not worth the price I was quoted. It seemed outdated and very dark. I was then told that parking is reserved for the 1st 10 guest (1st come 1st served) at $10 per car. Other guest would have to find other means of parking. I found this to be unaccommodating as I have guest coming from Long Island and a lot of out of towners. The traffic is horrendous and the area is very congested. I can already imagine the inconvenience my quest will experience. This was definitely not for me. Think twice.
My fiancée and I have been planning to have a hybrid Western-Chinese wedding at Flushing. We were considering the Sheraton and Mulan Restaurants as candidates.
Although the Sheraton looked very capable at hosting Weddings (i.e. Wedding factory), Scott, the manager, was extremely unresponsive in answering and getting back to us over email to finalize and confirm the booking. He promised to get back to us in several days, but we never had a response even after two months later with multiple follow ups. So please aware and consider their responsiveness when considering them as a candidate for venue.
My husband and I had the best night of our lives. The food was delicious, the banquet service was flawless, they are professionals and put you mind at ease, the venue is beautiful and the whole Sheraton LaGuardia Team is great!.. We will never forget our wedding night. ♥
Ceremony and reception area was very spacious. I had 200 people for my wedding. No one complained and everyone had an amazing time. Food was great. I worked with Sheeba and Steve. Both are very professional and will help your day go smoothly.
It's hard to find a nice & clean venue in Flushing which understands & offers the Chinese style banquet especially when you have a small party (about 100 guests). The Sheraton was perfect! It was more intimate & we didn't have to share our room with any other party. We & our guests had a great time. Our banquet manager, Tessa, made sure everything flowed smoothly.
After a long day, we finally relaxed in our complimentary hotel room for the night. The room was very comfortable & clean. Since we didn't eat much on our wedding night, the complimentary breakfast buffet the next morning was great. The food was delicious!
The Sheraton staff is very accommodating & friendly. Our wedding event contact, Dora, is very organized & informative. She reminded us of things that we didn't even think about.
This was convenient for us because all of my family and friends live in Queens. Service was just OK. We got a lot of attitude for wanting to add people to our block and getting the fixed rate, even though we had a family friend working there. In terms of the rooms, they were fine. We got decent feedback from our guests. The worst part though, was that our bathroom tub was blocked and so on our wedding night, we had a plumber coming in and banging and causing a mess in the bathroom until 2AM - so we didn't get much sleep or anything else done for that matter that night!
