Silvana's Catering

It’s not very often that I take the time to write a review, but for this particular experience I feel it’s appropriate. Our wedding was last year in December and our coordinator suggested Silvana’s Catering to service it. Arrangements were made to taste test the food at her home. Our chosen cuisines were American and Italian. The first dish was supposed to be orange glazed pork loin served with creamy garlic mashed potatoes and lemon seasoned green-beans. The second dish was intended to be Tuscan Chicken Pasta and both were to be served with dinner rolls. So, being that my husband and I are huge foodies, we were only excited to try Mrs. Silvana’s creation and have it at the wedding. Unfortunately, we would be greatly disappointed. When we arrived, we entered Silvana’s home. Immediately I was taken back by the condition of the home and was concerned about certain health hazards when preparing the food in such an unclean environment, but I thought I did want to try since we made the trip and It was getting closer to the wedding day. Our first impression of Silvana was okay, although she seemed very distant, and didn’t really converse with us much. She did, however, turn on the television to play a video of her catering business as we sat at the table and left the room. We found it a bit odd and impersonal, but mostly we were uncomfortable. The video eventually ended, and she came back into the room from her kitchen. She placed the dishes we were there to try in front of us. The presentation was truly sloppy, heavy handed, and mixed. She served the pork loin with the pasta, the mashed potatoes with the chicken, and the green beans were in the middle of the table. This is a minor thing that can be overlooked and corrected, but the food itself was more difficult to ignore. The pork loin was cold, under-seasoned, tough, and the glaze was not a glaze at all, but rather covered in juice squeezed from an orange which leaked into the pasta served with it. The pasta was over cooked and mushy, and the creamy sauce applied to the pasta was very thick and heavy, but tasted decent. The mashed potatoes were clumpy, cold and forgetful and the green-beans were loaded with lemon-seasoned salt. Lastly, the rolls...they were store bought and hard as if they had been sitting out for a very long time. At this point, I was devastated, and my husband couldn’t find the will power to express these things that we both just experienced tasting this food. However, Silvana asked for our opinion and when I expressed them she did not take it too well. She became a bit aggressive in her defense and argued that she didn’t use salt in the green beans. She even went out of her way to go to her kitchen to prove it, but never came back with the bottle. She was very offended and offered no alternatives or solutions to adjust anything. She was very “take it or leave it”, and when you are paying for services it should be about the what we can do to fix it. We were very open to suggestions, but her stance on everything that was being talked about was very much one sided and unprofessional. She was not even willing to refund some of the deposit we didn’t even know she had received before the tasting (no fault of hers but it would have been the ethical thing to do because the food was simply at the lowest standard and she knew it)…but I digress. In the end, we did thank her for her time, and expressed we’d be going in a different direction. As we left her home, she slammed the door behind us. We were just really shocked that this was happening to us. Literally, we were as respectful in our opinions as we could have been and there really isn’t any need to act out in such an immature and childish way. Overall, we understand that the food business is a tough one to be in, but it doesn’t get any better when the chefs are ill-skilled, combative, unprofessional, and down right...rude. Food is about sharing in a lot of ways and with Silvana there was no room for compromise. It was unfortunate, but thankfully, we did find another catering service that provided excellent service, and even more so excellent food.

Silvana is the absolute sweetest, always smiling & filled with warmth. Plus, her food is outstanding: fresh, delicious, & cooked with love. Our meal was one of the things we looked forward to the most as our wedding approached! Silvana worked with us for every detail and request, and she truly wanted to help make our day special. I could not recommend her more!

Silvana and her team were so amazing to work with!! I can’t say enough good things about not only her food but Silvana. She is the sweetest person and she absolutely loves her work. You can definitely taste it in her food. Once I tried her food, I instantly knew I had to have her. That was such an easy decision. The hardest decision was trying to narrow down the food I wanted to serve. Everything she makes is sooooo good. Honestly, could not have asked for a better experience. She offers an amazing professional staff, great food and an even better experience throughout. I highly recommend her! You will not be disappointed.

As soon as we did a food tasting with Silvana my fiancée and I knew right away we had to book her!! Her food is sooooo good!! Everyone at the wedding loved it and kept commenting about how good her food was and I saw a ton of clean plates. you won’t be disappointed if you book her! She makes everything from scratch, and provides great service. We are very thankful we chose Silvana for our wedding day, and truly appreciate how great her food and service was!
