Heads up if you begin the booking process with this business - their customer service and client loyalty is very lacking. After speaking with "DJ Sirr Chris" via The Knot vendor chat a few times, we scheduled a phone interview for Tuesday night.... During the phone call we informed Chris that we wanted to book his services for our wedding. Between 7 and 8pm, we received, signed, and returned the digital service contract.
Chris informed us that because we were booking more than a year in advance of our event, he preferred that we pay via check rather than through the paypal that he would typically use. That's all fine, except what followed...
Before noon on Thursday, less than 48 hours later - while I am at the store about to buy stamps to send our check - I get a call from Chris with - in his words - "bad news." He informs me that another couple has paid a deposit for our date, so he is no longer available. I'll note that he did offer to put us in contact with another DJ.
I find it extremely unprofessional that we were never informed that another couple was under contract for that date. The availability of the date was my very first question when we spoke, and frankly I would have invested my time in interviewing and calling references for another DJ had I known this.
It is also poor form to complete a service contract with a client, ask the client to pay by mail, and then not hold the date for a few days so that the check can arrive by mail. Just another hour later and I would have already dropped my deposit in the mailbox.
When Chris called on Thursday he told me that he gets so many inquiries that he simply can't hold a date based on an inquiry. Understandable and pretty standard - except that we were not just an inquiry, we had signed the contract. It is common business courtesy that once a contract is signed there is a small grace period with the date held so that the deposit can be received. My mistake was in assuming that basic level of customer service would be extended to the clients of DJ Sirr Chris.
Obviously, this rating is for customer service, not performance as a DJ. We were excited to hire Chris, but this experience has left a very bad taste in my mouth. If you decide to consider DJ Sirr Chris, beware the lack of transparency about actual availability.
