Worst experience to last a lifetime. They cancelled the wedding the day before due to a storm. The only option they could offer was to pay another 10k to buy out the restaurant. That was not financially possible.
We had waited out the auction process, should have heeded that warning that it may not have been the best choice.
Working with Smuttynose was fantastic. I had a ten month engagement and did not start my planning process with Smutty until about 7-8 months out and it felt very smooth. We had around 130 guests come and mostly all from out of town.
I believe we were their first wedding and you would haven ever known!
The planning process was organized, communication was great, and all needs and expectations were met. When working with their events coordinatior, Leslie, I could not have been in better hands. Leslie owns a business wedding planning and works as an events coordinator for Smuttynose. This is a wonderful resource because you get to work with someone with a lot of experience in weddings.
Leslie was approachable, accommodating, patient, and warm. She provided all of my options through Smutty and did not put added pressure on my decisions. Leslie wants to help create the day you imagine and does not add her biases or seek opportunity for up charges. She's straight forward and direct with details which kept me on the same page. She helps try to keep you in your budget but also create the vision and taste YOU see. She was fast to find answers to my questions, reach out and use her resources, and give wonderful feedback when needed.
She kept us focused on what we should be mostly focused with and when so it kept the overwhelming factors to a minimum.
Smutty offers many choices through their vendors. I found the process exciting and not overwhelming with Leslie's help. I had a vision and with the options offered I was able to create it.
We were offered the back section of their property. It's used frequently for events so hosting large crowds is something they are comfortable doing. We had a beautiful tent and a mix of farmers tables and round tables for our particular layout. We had a tent with sides that drop in case there was rain. We were fortunate to have beautiful day and tat allowed us to roam in and out of the tent for cocktail hour.
Per the bar package we chose, Smutty provided 6 daft beers and selected top shelf liquor from their restaurant. The presentation was great with their tap handles and chalk board list. The most fun part of planning.... the beer tasting for our wedding! We met with the manager of Hayseed (Smuttynose Restaurant) and we were taken very good care of. We tasted so many options that we could serve. We chose a handful of Smutty's signature beers to accommodate different palates and allow people to experience Smuttynose! As tempting as it was we personally chose to not serve DIPA's to avoid losing our guests too early in the evening and we are happy with that decision.
We decided to do a first look on the property. It was a gorgeous place to do it. We used the barn and we were able to take photos inside the brewery as well.
My only small advice for future events are the bathrooms. (I think that's pretty good!)
We chose to up charge our bathrooms for trailers. The trailers were perfect -very clean and spacious. The package includes porta-potties (which I am sure are clean and large) but I personally would not suggest it for a wedding and I think would be nice to present the trailers as apart of the package.
Our wedding was the best day of my life. It flowed nicely, the atmosphere was relaxed, and beautiful. I really enjoy breweries and to be able to combine that into our wedding on such beautiful property was awesome. Highly recommend!
